I have just updated the tutorial and added the final texturing part with project files where you will find aj brushes, max nad ps files with ready textures and finished lowpoly mesh. Also there is decimated highpoly model and 3d coat colours palette.

3d coat is very good for retopology!

allright I will make another small video tut just about zbrush brushes and shortcuts but a bit later=)

PS. the slash (aj brush) is using alpha but it was done by using Orb brush. So the person just took Orb brush and manually sculpted one nice detailed slash and then saved it as alpha in zbrush. You can make same slashes with the orb brush but this way you will spend a lot of time by doing each slash manually.

here is the small video tutorial made by the creator of the Orb brush. He explains how he did it and why it is so special compared to the standard zbrush slash brush

Yeah looking nice. I just paint all highlights over the cavity to give it a more hand painted look. By the way, have you ever seen this vertex magazine ? There is a nice tutorial by one great artist from blizzard (*Fanny Vergne). She is showing her texturing process of similar stone floor texture. I find it extremely useful!

yeah my bad. I thought that I explained all my brushes but now I see that the scratch brush wasnt discussed. I will update the video as soon as I get home.

But in a nutshell: I am using custom brush for that and I will place it in the project files today.

    orb brush for making cracks

flatten brush , hard polish brush , mah polish - for polishing the surface

Aj pinch bruhs - for piniching

    Aj slash - for scratches/slashes

those are the brushes I mainly use

I am using Camtasia 8 for video editing and it is horrible with rendering the video. It isnt even 64bit lol. Getting lots of errors with it. I will post the tut as soon as it let me render all my stuff.

Good to hear! Just finished with the sound. I did it separately. All in all its 7+ hours of video with some speed ups. I still need to add some minor tweaks and I hope to get it done by tomorrow.

hehe tahts true . I hate my voice especially my weird english accent=) .

By the way, is it ok that the tutorial will be a bit long?. Its around 4 hours of video with some speed ups. I wanted to add more speed ups but I am not sure if its fine to watch technical stuff like baking with fast speed . I decided to record three examples of baking . Normal, with cage , with cage and explode mode. The last baking example is about 58 minutes.

Interesting. I always preferred maya for rigging and max for modeling =) Have you tried Xnormal for baking ? Yeah blender is a nice app. I have to force myself to learn it because I am quite unhappy with the max monopoly. I am actually using modo at work and it feels a lot faster than max in terms of modeling and the only thing which keeps me using max is the modifiers statck. 3d Coat is very awesome app and I highly recommend it especially for hand painted textures.

    Quote from Triceron: Go

The techniques I use are similar to the DOTA2 texturing and character art guides, which you can find on Valve's steam workshop.

The methods involve creating a high resolution mesh, which you can make in Zbrush/Sculptris/Mudbox, then baking out multiple maps as overlays, and then finish up with a bit of handpainted love. I also use a lot of reference to hit a certain look, usually stuff from WoW or now Heroes of the Storm since I finally got the client.

References are key to good art IMO. It's always easier to create something when you know the end result you're aiming for, not just relying on imagination and trial-and-error. Before I start a model, I usually sketch out a quick concept and block out rough shapes of what I want to make. Sometimes I collage it from multiple reference pictures, just to get an idea of what I need to make. The stronger the concept you have, the better your end result will be. Removing the guess work makes modelling (and texturing) a hundred times easier.

As for updates, I've been working on a couple things ever so slowly, and I have a backlog of stuff I haven't put up here. I've mostly been trying to break down Heroes of the Storm models, and I'm contemplating updating some older models to fit the style better.

We have so much in common =) I mean my pipeline is almost the same. By the way, what apps are you using if its not a secret ?

sorry guys. I was too busy lately. It looks like a lot of work actually. I am quite nervous while recordering which leads to record twice same things. Anyway, I am on the actual painting part which is the last part. Then I will edit and record sound and I hope to release it this week.

Well thanks but I dont think I am the right person to teach you that. I am still learning how to draw myself.

anyway, I have managed to record two parts of the tutorial.

    1. Lowpoly modeling

    2. Highpoly sculpting

    WallDoodadWIP

    next will be

    3. preperation for baking (retopology, unwrapping)

    4. baking and texturing

I will try to record my voice also but I am not sure. Maybe just text will be enough.
