    Put a link in your signature if you really want ppl to check out your threads. I have tried to make a system work. It would look nicer to have the buildings do the visual animation for producing units... but the training image came up grey so I scrapped it for my system that works, it just has units manifest next to the building and go into battle. if I ever got the nicer way to work seemlessly I would definitely put the time in to do it.

    I think the worst advice I had ever recieved was form a guy who prbably never tested a map before. He told me "you should make zealots fly"... really?

    yea I know a few ppl who are hanging onto never ending projects.. they keep at it to hopefully make it playable. Quality over quantity... these maps have quantity.. lots of triggers.. lots of layers and doodads and data edits lol but quality of it feels choppy. I never tell them, "your map is something I would never play." I do say that this or that is wrong but some just seem to have a plan already.. so the feedback I give them is deflected into a "I'll think about it.. no really, thats a good idea.." which means I dnt really like it.

    Your map is fun. it is actually really popular. The updates are killing your fan base tho, I think. progressed scores were getting wiped and players had to start over. try just digging into your map and making the updates a lot more spaced out... perhaps bigger/heavier makeovers instead of several small ones. Just a thought.

    I like the xel'naga income idea... but I think it sucks that you have to "sacrifice" 1-3 units out of battle to hold those things and it's just a challenge. I think it stirs away from the fun. Perhaps another way to get income? collecting random doodads that give resources. Details: .. 1 doodad would pop up in one of the common routes each round, in the middle sections of the map, and erase when the round is over. The person who takes the risk to leave their base has a chance to get rewarded, this will discourage "sitting". I think you could use regions for this.. just drap them over the common route areas... but im not sure about how exactly you would get the regions to spawn the doodad.. I know somone who could probably help with that.

    I like the idea of restarting every round and the fact that you might have to save resources if you want to start over with your unit build. But, I have noticed that if someone wants to scrap all that they have for 20+ reapers... thats gg. plus they have that grenade ability for structures. I suggest either losing the cliff jump ability, making them a lot more expensive, knocking hp down, or knocking their attack damage down..

    It's harder than that. I am familiar with the "m3" model changes. Thats easy just find the picture in the models tab and choose the one u want.. Well, dark toss downloads are at the bottom of the "browse" list like any other imported file.

    1)Bunker refund ability is causing a problem. it rewards 500 minerals for zerg stuctures? is there a way to change the cost somehwere? salvage refund, or zerg stuctures so that the refund doesnt happen, but the players still have to pay for their buidings?

    2)I downloaded some dark toss and got them into my editor... but not onto the units corrctly.. all my wanna-be dark toss units are pink now... just have the m3 attatched and it looks funny. please dnt tell me I have to learn how to get the program the modelers and retexturers use in order for this to work :/

    3)My healers won't heal. Warp prism, Medivac, medic, special ops drop ship, and overlord all heal.. they have the ability to but refuse. I dn know what to do. These healers apply to all races but for some reason.. the only thing that works is terran, medivac heals scvs ONLY lol and the medic is fine for healing everything.. i looked into the validators and copied all the flags from the heal abilities to the other Double beam heal ability.. I want them to heal their own players units..(players can have all 3 races).

    4)lol as i try to fix things it seeems like im messing things up. all three races have repair. how would I set it so a probe can repair their structures AND zerg AND ter... and have a drone be just as effective? I tried altering the flags to "require" almost everything and now it says "must target air unit" or "must target mechanical unit"... I messed it up. I'll set it back to normal but what do i do for this?

    5)Upgrades.. I duplicated the workers, but they do not have armor upgrades... or any upgrades at all attatched to them. so my dark toss probe is now making light structures :/ just looks wrong. Wht would i do to add the toss upgrades to the probe and zrg ups to drone??

    The closer I get to the intended image of this map, the harder it gets. bank files next lol

    6)nukes and hybrids shockwave attacks hurt ally and personal units... where do i change that?

    This stuff is so confusing. Why cant I just change the texture through the models tab in the editor? I was sure that there was an easier way. I got these dark protoss units cuz I thought theyd be cool and it's turning out to be no ez task at all.. a project in itself.

    Am i miising something??

    these units are magnificent already but with some sharp dark looks to them theyd become mystifying and I believe that would contribute to any gameplay experience.

    I've heard that this job is easy but I can't seem to find these anywhere. :/

    If you enjoy your results it would also be cool if you did some of the heroes lol... perhaps considered making dark zerg and dark ter?? thats an idea lol I would greatly appreciate it for my map,which has the basic dark units already.

    Is there a program that is free and very good to use? for remodelling and texturing??

    Could it be that you are all correct?! lol you guys this is funny.

    It is okay to fall in love with your map. You can be logical with the ones you love correct? You can definitely tell when you're wife is getting fat, or too skinny, or a pimple ... your kid has a sloppy outfit or need her hir done. Of course, these are not things I would ask for feedback on and it is no one elses place to state so, because I do love them. Proziac, it is okay to become passionate and "love" your map, but

    "Actually, negative feedback doesn't hurt even if you treat your map as extension of yourself. It's a matter of way of utilizing the feedback."

    Zolden is right too that it depends on how you take it and that if someone loves their work they will push into further extents to make it right.

    But prozac also makes the point that some may become real defensive and actually lose sight of a great map, ultimately losing sight of the outside perspective. .. bottom line is, it depends on how you take it.

    There are rude people, which is why this thread was created, that seem to shut down motives. I asked for a tester and not even 20 seconds in he says "everything is too expensive". and... "I can't build anything" which is not true. every race has two build options at the start... the main building and the basic troop production builing... a command center and a barracks for example. you can build one but you can't afford the other.... so his feedback was false and I was already frustrated as i thought "dam I got another stupid tester"as i expected him to try and shut me down.

    That test turned out fine.. found a few edits and he liked the map. Said it was already better than nexus wars :D made my day.. then he said his units were "sticking to the wall" because he built his structures "to far to one side". lol in what map do units EVER STICK to walls?! Maars shockwave ability was stopping the units for some reason. dnt know why.

    Silly testers man.

    I think I got it figured out. Get out of list mode/view if you're set to this in your editor.

    Type in the name of the duplicated unit in the top of your editors search box. "drone"

    Through the actors tab, the tabs on the right that you have to be concerned about for appearance are the Art tab and maybe the Editor tab.

    Duplicating workers (this may apply to other units as well) seems to leave the art tab "empty". Copy from the original unit... if the unit u r copying is a drone, then put drone in 3 of the fields, in the art tab, of your duplicate unit. Ingame portrait is grey. Do not leave portrait with "(your unit) copy" in it. should just have your units original type in there. Mine says just "Portrait - drone". Before it said "Portrait - Drone Copy".

    For perfection tho, you could put everything over from the original unit.. like sounds (in the Sounds tab) are attack, pissed, ready, what, yes. You will see next to "ready" for example, "unknown". the sounds you edit should not say that. open the drop down menu and find (your unit)_ready. FYI Helps, when you have something highlighted in this menu list, to just type in the first few letters of your searches.

    and then theres the Editor tab. Use this to edit the name of the unit as it appears in the editor. For your own editor organization purposes. So you can find this unit easily later on.

    Then, last and hopefully this is the last step... in the lower left window you should see a "Unit" branch that says whatever unit u r editing.

    Models are missing for the structures that can be built by the duplicate worker units.

    -Option 1>You have to set the abilities otherwise they will come up blank in-game. They also did not copy over, completely.. buttons are there but the actual commands and abilites are not set. you DO have to click in all 3 of the ability/command card fields that appear below the 15 boxes; even if it automatically sets it in for you... some reason you have to click ON the ability. Problem with this option is that you'd have to set the skins/models of all the structures.

    -Option 2>in the ability list, above the 15 (3x5) boxes I mentioned earlier, you will see many abilities ending with the word "copy". Change the ability thats causing you trouble to its' original non-"copy" vesion from the drop down list/menu.. and THEN apply all the abilities in the 3 fields; command type:, ability:, and ability command:.

    I am seeing that upgrades also have not copied over. Don't know what to do about that yet. any ideas?

    I am noticing a ring underneath my duplicate units; the same ring that appears on the ground beneath flying units. why?

    ah well i guess lol whatever fuels you bro.. why not put it here? but please try to keep it closely related to blizzard id hate for this thread to turn into a debate of homosexuals, abortions, or why obama should or should not be president. I made a lot of progress today. Someone did almost tip me over lol they said "what do i do?" and im beginning to think this is a standard like pre-set question that randoms come into your map with lol. but all is well. fixed the "broke to shit, tho it could have been said nicer" problems and I added Dark toss :D so now all three are up.

    No gripes today besides the one about people who seek the negative. It's like the grinches of Blizzard lol they do it because they can. All I have to say to them, mostly for my own satisfaction, is that they are dumb. It's always easy to be imature and bring everybody down rather than contribute with substance to a conversation.

    I put a lot of effort to not believe it to be like this. I push to let people help me, but if they flake it's not like I relied on them too much.. its not like i lost my map lol. the bonus of them actually doing something that I could not do is awesome. saves time and research esp. if it's in my own map, I cn just look at it. A lot of editors have that "solo" i did all by myself mentality but how could you brag? It just meant that you played it safe and refused to get help. for some, asking for help is a sign of strength. I pride myself in the amount of people I have had help me. I hoenstly can't count right now and for them tho, I have a great map. Someone who has been trimming at their map for two years was amazed at what got finished in my map in 3 weeks. Thanks to the help.

    ok lol the "friend" who gave me the localization error said that he wanted to help me finish this map. from scrap to finish. It's not my fault to expect him to follow through on what he said.

    The feedback provided was rude. bottom line. you don't call someones months of work "broke to shit"... and of course if I make a map I should be open to all sorts of feedback, so I got the picture about him feeling lost.. but any 2nd grader could can read the first line on the loading screen, "kill units to get resources".. and then they could see upon startup that clicking on the worker shows that you can only build 1 affordable building.. barracks, spawning pool, gateway. If you would have had a hard time with that then go ahead and argue your point but if you agree with me, then plz stop acting like my being irritated at members of the community is faulty...

    You can't volunteer to test a map and shut it down like I forced you into it. You can't Volunteer to see a map to the finish, if you're not going to. ...take a horse to water, and then he says, "what am i supposed to do here?" lol common sense. click something

    Can u provide a method for ditching the refund from the salvage ability?

    Preferably without triggers. If you do triggers, can you explain step by step, like what to click ">" on or add me in game 558 cuz I'm not familiar with triggers, with the exception of two unit to region triggers they are scary, and walk me through it..

    Zergs buildings are gaining 500 minerals more than what was paid for because for some reason, if you want buildings to cost anything, you have to set them to 501 for the building to cost at least 1 minerals. I have set the cost to -500 and that just rewards 500 on top of the zerg structure cost of 500.. if I put it at 500 (positive number) it will make the player pay 500 to salvage. Not cool.

    Help, send me a message too that would be cool. My problem is making a joke out of my map :/

    I know some of them :D probably know the others too just dnt recgnizze the initials.. I grew up on sc1, wc (all), cnc,.... Soul reaver, tekken, tomb raider.... prince of persia and other gmes that took some brains.. guess im missing out on portal :/ but as for pc again.... My wife is one of those call of shint players loyally, it's all she has patience for. Whenever we dload anything, if it ivolves reading its gay, or stupid.. or whatever.. she's played sc... this one and she really tried but was left feeling defeated everytime.. she had a hard time with ez.. worker her way up to medium and won... kept trying for hard and could not do it. I think hard ai is all i can beat in standard battle but my point is, it really does depend how you were raised lol.

    Its not their fault that they are missing out on blizzards ways of "changing gaming forever".. think about it. Besides Blizzards games, what games push u to sit at a computer for hours, that have not been pushed onto a consol???? That takes talent. My wife calls this the other wife :/
