Set your keyboard shortcuts in the application your going to record with.
Also set settings such as resolution and fps so the video looks good, this might require testing
You can record from your speakers, or your voice. Its your choice, but in general voice is unnecessary.
Use those shortcuts to record your map, you must be in windowed mode for recorders that don't have the record game option. (windowed [fullscreen] will get the same results as fullscreen)
Save it, if your using camstudio make sure you press the hotkey for stop and save, not cancel recording.
what you made, is most likely a AVI file that you can now immediately upload to you tube, or you can edit it, to make a more epic video.
Editing
Unless you already have the software and the know-how, I recommend just leaving you video how it is. You can use iMovie or Windows movie maker, as recommended by the babyfaced mod below.
Uploading
You can easily upload to YouTube by clicking the upload button, right next to the browse button! (you have to log in......)
When your done.....

The code here on mapster for embedding videos is:
<<youtubeXXXXXX>>
The XXXXXX is the part of the URL of your video after the "...watch?v="

Profit.
I'm so epic I just wrote a long tutorial that is way more in depth then it needs to be.
I hate it when people make a demo of thier map and leave the loading screen in. Its like they couldnt take the 5 seconds required to cut out a minute of that...

I own a pc. Movie maker stinks, and Windows Live Movie Maker is less glitchy but also less functional. Anyways good advice. Maybe include a bit about how to add videos into the forum?

pretty sure xfire comes with a free high-res high-fps recorder that you can use.
I tried this one, it lags like hell. On very good systems it might work, but my half-decent pc had massive lagspikes every 10 seconds of recording on low settings. Fraps (old version) and Camtasia Studio (trial version) managed constant 30 FPS without spikes on high settings.
How to make a video demoing you map
This isn't likey to get you in the news feed, but we want to see YOUR map(s) :P

For those lucky people on macs, yes iMovie.
I've always had problems with movie maker.... Windows live &$*&$ (I hate PCs)
I always start recording after the loading screen :)
^Highly recommended ^

I tried CamStudio the other night and the framerate was just atrocious, compared to Fraps at least.
you mean "unlucky" people... macs suck... and fuck you.

Woah there. I'm a PC user, but I don't think macs suck. At the very least, imovie >>>>>>> movie maker. No need to over-react...
"woah there" = over-reaction. relax, buddy. it's only the internet 8). that "fuck you" was merely meant as a come on. i'm horny...
but, macs suck. they really really do...
anything with "i" in front of the name is lame. A N Y T H I N G...

iPhone, iPod, iPad, iTouch, etc would like to have a word with you
Turn of auto adjusting frame rates and try it.
If you own fraps, fraps is a much better product.

What about Sony Vegas? I particularly like the 7.0c version.
lame, lame, lamer, just stupid and lame, etc. they are all lame. don't EVER confuse popular with cool. i got 5 words for you:

I got 1 link for you http://forums.sc2mapster.com/general/general-chat/18342-mac-vs-pc-for-ge/
Not that i think macs are better for things like the galaxy editor.
Did a gang of apple-emblazoned thieves steal all of your PCs recently or something? :P
Anyway, i'm trying to produce a video of my map and i have a few issues:
Any suggestions?
