Every test I do seems to return an error. Even something as simple as this:
Catalog - Set value of Units "Marine" "Food" for player 1 to "-1"
returns errors. Does anybody know why? I have the 1.2 patch, but I'm not sure whether this worked before it :S. Is there any way to make this work? My whole project falls apart without the ability to alter resource costs and supplies.
I can confirm that I'm using the right field paths.
The error message is: TriggerDebug/ErrorCatalogFieldNotWritten
Can't. I need to alter the cost/supplies of uints on the fly, multiple times throughout the game.
I managed a workaround for supply. Here's a list of things you CAN'T change through the Catalog function, that have impeded me so far:
Unit - Cost
Unit - Supply
Actor - (Group) Sounds
Button - Icon (alert icon works though :( )
However, I can confirm that Portraits, Hero Icons, Wireframes, Group Icons, etc; can all be changed. Button tooltips and alert icons can also be changed. Abilities can have their costs changed.
I've also discovered that calling incorrect field values or trying to set values that are not allowed to be altered can cause dropdown lists in the editor to load slower than normal until you restart the editor. Weird.
I'm currently trying to find the proper Field value for train abilities' icons. I'm hoping I can change the button assigned to an ability as a workaround to not being able to change button icons. Here's the XML data on it:
[Edit]: Nvm got it. You can't alter the buttons on a command card either...why did they make this tool so damn useless? -_-.
It seems like you can't change many things that the user cna directly follow. Only values that work behind the scenes are editable (for the most part).
I am pretty sure you cannot alter the command card with catalogs.
For a list, what you can change with catalogs, try to use an upgrade. Everything you can change with upgrades, is changeable by catalog as well, everything not available for upgrades does not work for catalogs (at least as far as I know)
You can actually alter command cards, just not the buttons that are already on there. For instance, I could move the stimpack ability to the bottom right instea dof bottom left, but I can't change the darn icon!
I guess I need to make about 27 versions of each ability, each with its own button and disable the ones that I don't need...what a waste of time :(. Also, you can edit things like Button tooltips, which (last time I checked) were bugged and didn't work for upgrades. :)
[Edit]: Ughhh you can't change ability reuirements either.
Sadly, it's actually looking like it would be quicker and easier to create a custom UI than trying to mess around with these stupid catalog options.

There are many fields, which cannot be changed with CatalogSetValue. The error message suggests, costs is one of them.
Are there any possible workarounds? Possibly using upgrades or something?
Can you alter the costs of training abilities?
[Edit]: I've managed to alter the cost of the abilities used to train units (yay), but I still need to alter supply somehow...any ideas?
use the data editor instead?

@wingednosering: Go
Could you tell me how you managed to move the stim ability in the command card. I tried it with
but it didnĀ“t work :(
