Though I wanted to do a lot of commenting on #200, I ended up feeling a bit sick so I'm just popping in to upload WTE #201. As per some brainstorming in the last thread, this week's theme will be "All aboard the hypetrain!". What does this mean? Simple: you create any sort of terrain that involves trains, train tracks, or some kind of train depot. We'll get to use those doodads again, this way.
Well, it's not too bad... a bit creepy in the bottom right, but yeah, you could just be adding more doodads, like the korhal trees and more place where to sit, more texture work, etc. It's a good start though. If you look at the first render of a 3d video it looks quite bad, but after polishing, it gets better and better ;)
You could try making a new one ;) Make a protoss train :P How epic would that be?
Here's a WIP of something. I dont know if ill keep it to just mapping this small area, or if ill make another area/more areas, like I tend to do if I really like the mapping

I loved your bonus post, Phail. Seriously, it's been 2 years and I have yet to see a bad Zerus terrain. The best ones are ones with the skygeirr/char platform cliffs. They're lovely for labs/installations on top of jungles.
And that mar sara canyon. Damn. The first post, I was kinda like "meh yeah it's a start" but I the updates were brilliant.
Just a tip, you can get rid of the ugly rippling on the mar sara textures with some easy data editing.
Go into Data, open a new tab (Edit Art and Sound Data > Textures), and then find the name of the mar sara textures.
Find the "height map" field on the right box area, and then in the table cell in the next column, right click > reset to parent value > (whatever the it says, too long for my to type up)

Well, practically everything posted in the WTE these days is at a level where I'd call it 'good terrain'. There's always room for improvement, but I feel like the WTE's mostly served its purpose.
That could be a nice minitheme for WTE's, like Do That Doodad. It'd need some rephrasing, cause I don't want to just go "see that map there? yeah, it sucks - make it better!", but the idea is sound.
Well, you could find people that wants good terrain so we suggest / do stuff or part of terrains for them kind of the JTE but less 1 by 1, more like an idea, reference, creative post.
I realise that this most likely was a joke. But please dont shut it down as long as you can. Even though some people dont use it as an "exercise" anymore. Some do. Plus, I really like to make maps based on styles, while also watching other people give their own idea of that style. Over and out, for now
Alright this might be the last time I post pictures of this terrain. I made 2 new overlapping zones.
I think I mastered this kind of terrain. I've got a few more ideas, but I'm still just doing the same thing over and over again, so it's getting a tad bit boring.
I think I'll start with a remake of an oldie of mine.

Hey hey folks!
