Yeah so it removes limits..... but that would mean youd have alot of custom content right? It would have to be unlocked...
Why design a map that cant be uploaded to bnet.... I guess if you really want to make a 100 mb map then you can and you can play it with your closest friends. But other then that.... spend all that time and really nobody else can play it.
Sounds like a waste of time building the map if you ask me.
Maybe this person is designing a map that will take years to develop and they hit the caps for Battle.net Map size/count and want to test the map? I don't know, >.>
It was useful in the beta, it was the only way to play maps. It takes all of 5 minutes to keep maintained, so i'll maintain it for those who want/need to use it, :P.
If I knew, that map making and testing would be that complicated, I would not have tried it. But now that the map is almost finished, I want to test it with my friends. But as it is, I followed each step above, and Extinction loads up as usual, nothing of my map seen....
The path to Extinction may have changed again, i'm going to have to check on that.
I've released an updated version of MapCraft that should work fine with the Retail version of the game. You can also use it to test your Blizzard maps online without publishing them.
Is there anyway that MapCraft can be used to also play replays? That would be amazing. Or if anybody knows of another way to do it that dosn't involve running windows...
Yup, looks like it'll run Replays as well. Just select "All Files" and choose the replay file from the "Single Player" tab.
no. this tool is obsolete. it only allowed people to play custom maps before battle.net allowed them by tricking the game into thinking it was loading a melee map. This only worked with battle.net up.
That's not true. It also launches Maps locally since Mac users don't have GE.
I quit trying to do this on my mac haha. I uploaded it onto my windows computer and it works just fine. I was just wondering how the multiplayer feature works. Will I be able to play with anyone that has the sc2 beta installed? or will they need to have a functional bnet account?
Are you running the latest version of SC2? You're using the Mac Client and not Windows in BootCamp, correct? Also, you have the legal Beta, not a torrented crack/hack?
So I downloaded MapCraft 1.4 and I'm having trouble launching a map that I downloaded on teamliquid. I just browse and select the map, and then press launch, but nothing happens. Is there something I'm neglecting to do?
Edit: I'm on mac osx
Do you receive any errors or just nothing happens?

You can use MC to play the map without having to publish it... So this technically bypasses the map/size limits.

The Extinction map may have changed with Patch 16. Will check this out.
EDIT: Yup. The correct paths are as follows:
Just replace the "default" path with the one that applies to your OS. I've sent an e-mail/PM to Motive to get an update released.
@erokage974: Go
But that happens when using SC itself, correct?
SC2 Beta 0.17? That build is old, make sure you update to Patch 16.

They have to be able to login to Battle.net, :/.

You want that app, just make sure it's pointing to the correct directory.

Could be a problem on your friends end, what OS is he running?
Different versions of the map, possibly?
It's probably a desynch error, it means you both don't have the same map info... Which means one of you didn't use the tool.
