Oh, btw, I solved the script problem that prevented me from importing animations. After commenting out the lines starting with the "ECHO" command using two hivens (forum software, I hate you, so I won't write it here because it starts to cross out the text), the script started to run though.
I've no idea why those commands only cause problems on my computer, but since they are just output messages to the console, they don't matter and can be deleted without a problem. TaylorMouse, you might need to consider commenting out the line for your release version, so other people won't run into the same problem. ;)
If you encounter further errors, just reevaluate it (ctrl + e while script window is selected), close the script window and rerun the animation importer after chosing the file again as suggested earlier.
Oh, btw, I would be interested in beginner tutorials for some stuff you need to do with the model to make it great for SC2. I've already learned to apply materials as shown in a tutorial video on Taylor Mouse's youtube account and how to add and name animations.
Things I really would like to know more about are the multiple model parts a single model from D3 can consist of (e.g. skeleton, multiple weapons, ...) and how to create a death animation as the models don't have one. Also, everything I would need to know about SC2's attachment points (I didn't try those, yet) and how to create the texture aspects you usually add to a model in SC2 nowadays.
First I get the error for the APP import. I click ok on the error message, then select the script window. Then press Control + E. This closes the maxscript thing over on the right side.
Find the APP import again on Maxscripts then Import again, should work this time.
I repeat the process for the ANI import as well.
The APP import works without problems. The ANI importer has the problem.
Ctrl + E is the shortcut for "Select and Non-uniform Scale" button in my pretty much fresh installation of 3DSmax 2011. I've tried closing the script manually using the "close" button and selecting the script in the "utilities" dropdown, selecting the animation file again and executing the import again, but it just keeps failing every time I try it. I've no idea what I could be doing wrong and why that is even working for you then... =/
Or is that somehow working without me noticing? Where would I be able to see the result of the import?
edit:
guys/ladies, I need a list of clicks to figure that out as the hotkey stuff isn't working. I really would like to be able to put D3 models into SC2 myself... *desperatly cries for help*
Ctrl + E doesn't work for me or the animation isn't imported. Which window do you focus when you press ctrl + E?
Where does the animation appear? I'm a 3dsMax noob, but I try to figure out how to get D3 models into sc2. So, I would love to see each single click one has to make to import an animation and make it usable for sc2, so that I could potentially export it and use the model ingame. :)
So, it is possible for someone to retrieve animated and textured models of... let's say... Diablo, Goatman, ...?
Anyone able to get those for us/me? ^^
