Why not do something with tracelines. I watched the smashcraft tut vid and he says most spells use tracelines. So I thought that's cool, wonder what everyone else can do with them.
Was just over at the Many bodies one mind for Weekly trigger exercise and someone asked wouldn't it go smoother if it was done in the data editor. So I ask why not have one of the weekly data exercise be about making a squad type unit. Multiple units that share a same health bar and commands and as the health bar goes down some of the units die, possibly put a commander looking unit as the head.
It's a few but if you search Sacred 2 Seraphim or any other class in the game you can probably find some spells of their. The classes are Shadow Warrior, Dryad, High Elf, Seraphim, Inquisitor, Temple Guardian, and Dragon Mage. Sadly it didn't do so well even though it's a good game. The gameplay is great but the story and NPC are mostly parodies of other games, I think they have Diablo parodies in there.
EDIT: You can also do a BFG. That's one of Seraphim's spells, it acts like a buff and takes up a weapon slot. It's really strong and I consider it broken for being so strong. The weapon itself isn't amazing but I'm sure people could come up with something amazing.
What about just create the most epic spell you can think of. By spell I mean in the terms of like WoW or Phantasy Star, not any ability that can be used. Like a giant fireball or a thunderstorm. Anything someone can think of for a spell or is that too broad?
I could think of another more specific one, a Pillar of Light. In Sacred 2 there is a class that look similar to angels. They're basically paladins with great fighting combat and light spells. One of them is a radiant pillar, basically a pillar of light. In Sacred 2 they had other things that could be added on. I think a few were add more damage, pull enemies into pillar, wider damage radius, longer lasting, etc.
It'd be cool to see sacred 2 spells remade in starcraft 2.

What about a spell that brings dead enemies back to life temporarily but as your allies? That could be a big challenge.
