Recently I have been messing with retexturing skyboxes and had some interesting results. Maybe you could make a WTE themed around skyboxes since for space platform maps the skybox is half of the terrain.
Use a Model type actor for fixed skyboxes and a Doodad actor for not fixed skyboxes. For some reason the fixed skybox actor bugs if you use SOps but actors attached to it can use any SOp without problems.
