This game is fucking huge. The amount of work put into it (story mode with separate character models and environments, vast array of worlds with their own doodads and tilesets, Rpg elements, gameplay diversity) will be enough for a 3-4 shitty-ass steam games with average budget. I will always appreciate that, even though i play only campaign and never replay any missions (basicaly bought 2 days of gameplay per each expansion). This and the editor, which i use more like a sandbox than a tool to create maps is more than enought for me to buy it.
So how it fits within our topic. The point is this game is more for connoisseurs, and the reason it became so is because in my opinion Blizzard overemphasized the multiplayer aspect of the game. For many potential newcommers starcraft is a competitive, punishing multiplayer expirience. It becomes like stereotype. So as multiplayer scene stagnating i think Blizzard should shift the focus to the singleplayer or some innovative arcade gameplay. Because behind this multiplayer bubble and show they make of it many just doesn't see the beauty and ammount of dedicated work put into story mode.
I may be wrong ofcourse with evaluation of people's perception, but at least this is how it seems to me when i see the lowering popularity of this game. Because there is no objective reason of it. The game gets better with each new expansion. And the new tileset update they showed recently just ugh.. mindblowing :). :(
