@Redfoxx777 - can you be more specific about what you are trying to do? If you simply took the weapon's first effect and plugged it into the ability than no, you don't need anything else, however you may have something setup incorrectly in the chain itself. What do you mean by the ability starting 5 range above the unit?
@molamola - I think you're getting at what Riley and I discussed earlier on. The abilities wont' get confused so much as they simply won't work together. The buff applied will prevent either effect chain from hitting the target meaning that they won't overlap. This is ONLY the case if you keep the validators. If you plan on having multiple sources fire this kind of chain then you don't want to use the buffs. The point of this tutorial was to show how buffs can be used to make adaptable chains. Namely for Heroes.
If you're wanting overlapping chains you'll want to use the Marker approach. This will allow multiple chains to hit the same target, but still prevent the same chain from hitting the same target more than once.
Side note, you CAN check the source of a behavior, but I think you're using the wrong terms. Source refers to whatever created the object. Since effects can create other effects, there can be multiple sources within an chain. However, there is only one Caster for an entire chain unless you use Issue Order on a unit. Then that unit becomes the Caster of effects that follow it.
I am having trouble creating an AoE beam with a point targeted. I've been able to make the beam come out when I use the ability but no matter what I change with the target or launch features, I can only produce 2 outcomes. A. The beam starts at the target point and trails back to the south west of the map or B. the beam starts an the caster and trails back to the south west corner of the map.
Everything I've seen with beams targets a unit. Is there no way to target a point?
The map is attached and the skill is Subsonic Pulse.
Edit: I got the effect I wanted simply by using an actor instead of a beam. It would seem beam were only for effects with targets. Is this the case?
Beams aren't just for targeted effects, but they are definitely easier to implement with them. You should look at my multi-phase spell tutorial. I have beams that are created between two actors without directly targeting them.
I also had some problems when following this tutorial. Maybe it's because the patches changed something. This tutorial was written in the beta after all.
Now, my problem is different... no matter what I do, I can't get more than 3 targets in my chain.
I wanted 4 for the coolness factor of it... even if I can work around only 3 targets...
I did everything you said, including setting the last Behavior to "Periodic Effect".
And everything link correctly in my effects and behaviors, I verified it twice.
I even tried to add a fifth step so I would get 4... :p
But nope... nothing bring me higher than 3... I could link 7... it seems it fails at 3.
Good to hear :) I've been working on making updated versions of all my tutorials as I have time available, so my older tutorials will all get a face-lift in the near future.
Until I post new test maps, videos and tutorials many of my older tutorials like this one aren't going to work exactly as detailed. My time is currently being focused elsewhere, but once I have a week to sit down and organize things, I'll be able to provide accurate updates.
I've come across a problem, with this and other chain lightning tutorials wich uses the buff behavior for searching.
If the damage is high enough to kill the target instantly, the chain doesent hit more than 3 targets or maybe even less. Guessing that the target dies before the buff can actually do the search. Dunno how to fix this tho.
I wanted to create a 6 bounce Lightning Strike without AE at the end. So i duplicated everything 5/6 Times and the Chain works but it always hits only 3 Targets, instead of 6. It seems like it's the same Problem like SirKirby described, but i don't get it fixed. I already checked my Settings a few times but can't find the Problem. Hope you guys can help me.
@MacSC2: 1. Create a Button. 2nd. Create an Ability (Effect-Target) and link it Effect-Effect: Beam Bounce 1 Set; and Ability-Orders: "Your Button". 3rd Give this Ability to a Unit.
Don't work ... My hero just come closer to the unit i cast the ability on, and don't do a shit :( I even tried to add Beambounce 2, 3 and 4 (set) to the effect, but still don't work D:
Can someone help me plz :(
Oh and do you know how i make various levels ( ex : level 1 = 50 damage; level 2 = 100 damage; level 3 = 150 damage ) because i know i can change cost and cool down, but i don't know how to change range or damage ...
Is your problem where the attack is launching from and then where it's hitting then? That can be solved with site actors it's happening because there imported models.

hey
i cant seem to make it jump to diffrent targets even with all this done :(

I will be updating this and other tutorials given that patches have changed a lot of things.

I had the same issue, but it is easy to fix. You have to specify your actor is create "At Source". I put it in bold down there...
New actor named Beam 2 Attack with Actor Type: Action and Based On: GenericAttack
set Beam: Beam 2
set Launch Attachment Query +: Center (Direct)
open Events + and create the following events:
Effect - Beam Bounce 2 (Damage) - Start
Add term : At Source
Create
Effect - Beam Bounce 3 (Damage) - Start
Add term : At Source
Create
Effect - Beam Bounce 4 (Damage) - Start
Add term : At Source
Create

Ok... fixed it, it works PERFECTLY in my map now, thanks for the tutorial, 4 bounces all the way.
I just don't know how I fixed the bounces, but it works now... I did a lot of random stuff until I got it.... lol... :p

I'm probably messing up here but I have it all down but it seem the effect fails after the first target.
By this I mean that I have the beam hit the target and then it takes damage however it just ends there.
Until I post new test maps, videos and tutorials many of my older tutorials like this one aren't going to work exactly as detailed. My time is currently being focused elsewhere, but once I have a week to sit down and organize things, I'll be able to provide accurate updates.

How do i create this as an ability, and not as a weapon ? (sorry, i'm a little new to the editor :$)

I am having a different problem completely... I think this picture explains it best.
