Using 1.36, i've followed all those steps, but only the resource icon in the tooltips (of abilities, upgrades, etc.) changes, not the one in the top right.
I'm using the custom resource, and i've succesfully changed its name, tooltip and now i'm trying to get the icons right (see screenshot below).
Brilliant ideas anyone ? And yes, my custom resource is beer :D
Edit: Fixed! The thing is, I had my Assets.txt say "UI/ResourceIconNoBackground3=Assets\Textures\..."
Then I looked at TwoDie's stuff and Blizzard actually left out the "r" in "Background", meaning that the correct way to write it is:
UI/ResourceIconNoBackgound3=Assets\Textures\...
Can't believe we have to do all that to change a freaking icon though.
Once again, a new update for 1.4:
Blizzard have fixed the typo in the property names.
Where you previously had, for example
UI/ResourceIconNoBackgound0=someimage.dds
you now need
UI/ResourceIconNoBackground0
So, as an example to replace both resource icons and the zerg supply, I have used
No way. Cus icons in units costs changed on new icon... but it not changed icon on the top right resource panel. And way with removed Base.SC2Data not work also.
F8 > Data Source: All Data (at top) > Filter: UI | (Any) > Click on ID collum > Search in ID collum: UI/ResourceETC'ETC'ETC and there you will find tooltips and names if necessery to you to change it.
So after a good hour and a half, screwing with the assets.txt I have come to the conclusion that the supply icon is broken atm. I have been able to change almost everything but that, even changed the cooldown icon at one point...
I tried the screwed up 2nd method and that got me no where and i've tried every iteration possible in my mind for the 1st method.
I changed both minerals and gas icons, they work pretty well, if I test my map from the editor. However, when I publish my map on battle.net and test it with my second computer/license, these icons appear as gray boxes. Does anyone know what that means ?
I scanned this thread and it seems no one has mentioned this. You can change the resource icons without having to name your dds file something very particular to get the game to treat it as the original file.
Just make a dds file for the icon and import it in to the root folder of your map. Mine are called dollarsign-bank.dds and dollarsign-cash.dds
Then change the reference the map uses to display the icons. To do this open the data editor. Then open the tab Game UI Data, it is under Edit Advanced Data.
Then open the item Default SC2 UI Settings. Open the UI Tab, and scroll down to almost the bottom. I am using Detail View. Here there are two items called, "UI: Resources - Icon" and "UI: Resources - Icon Background". Here you can type in the name of the dds files you want to use to replace the corresponding mineral types. Make sure the files are in the root directory of your map.
Okay 2 hours of research and now I'm back with a question. When creating your icon what dimensions should it have?
Edited Upon Found Stupidity:
lol wow just noticed in original post one of the picture says its 64x64.
Also as a note make sure you can a 4th dds file for the nobg. I've got an example pictures below showing the difference.
I am not having a good time with this..
What are the correct modifications for the supply?
Also can anyone tell me why Everytime I save and reload the map it overwrites my custom assets.txt with the default one?
Thanks!

Two simple questions:
1. Why my resource icon (mineral) still default? =( What i'm doing wrong?
2. Where I can change resource tooltip on custom?

@xxxNEARBYxxx: Go
1.Remove Base.SC2Data folder.
2.In text editor search for minerals stuff there

Ohh then you missing these lines:
UI/ResourceIconNoBackground0_Prot=Assets\Custom Icons\YourPic.dds UI/ResourceIconNoBackground0_Terr=Assets\Custom Icons\YourPic.dds UI/ResourceIconNoBackground0_Zerg=Assets\Custom Icons\YourPic.dds
Well with big letter A.
@TwoDie: Go You my hero xD now it works.. but still cant find placement of resources tooltips for changing on custom.

instead of all this stuff you can name the new icon texture like the original ones and don't have to edit the assets.txt

Thanks for the update. I recently started working on this old map and needed your tip.
I can't get this to work with supply icon changes. Why?

Anyone know how to change supply?

Does so have an idea how I could fix this ? :(
So for supply icon change at top of the screen:
Idk if necessery: UI/ResourceFrameColorBG=Assets\Textures\icon-supply_BG.dds
These should be important:
UI/ResourceFrameSupplyIcon=Assets\Textures\icon-supply-terran_nobg.dds UI/ResourceFrameSupplyIcon_Prot=Assets\Textures\icon-supply-protoss_nobg.dds UI/ResourceFrameSupplyIcon_Terr=Assets\Textures\icon-supply-terran_nobg.dds UI/ResourceFrameSupplyIcon_Zerg=Assets\Textures\icon-supply-zerg_nobg.dds
