Greets everyone!
First a huge thank you and hello to everyone here. The posting of everyones tutorials have helped me tremendously with the Galaxy Editor, as a vetran of the Warcraft 3 editor i'd be spending a lot more time figuring things out without all of your help, so thank you. This is my way of giving something back. I have no images at the moment I may make a video in the future but for now i'll try to be conceise in my post. I wanted to post this, because its something that easily could of been 'faked' or done with just triggers, but it shows the power of the editor and how we don't have to do such things anymore.
Have an update to this tutorial for you all, I have a 4 part video tutorial on how to add something that was previously (with like warcraft 3) only possible through trigger editing! Passive Perodic Resources and Floating text, all through the data editor, and no triggers! You can find the videos bellow!! Hope you enjoy! (The original post and perodic resources through data editor instructions are listed bellow the videos)

Hey all,
First a huge thank you and hello to everyone here. This is simply a tutorail on how to add a buff/passive effect to any unit you wish to increase your resources perodicly. For this example were doing 5 minerals and 2 vespene gas every 2 seconds. I highly suggest and thank, Bifuu, overlook his aura tutorial if you have never dealt with buffs, effects and the like. Should make following along a bit easier to do so. So first things we need are 2 behaviors, one for Minerals, and one for gas. There behavior type should be Buff. Name it however you wish and press okay, We have a few fields to change here, first flags should be set to hidden as we dont want the buff visible to see in game (ie like a passive ability). Next change the period field to 2.0 this what will make it every 2 seconds. Next change the Player+Value field to Source. And change the Time Scale Source+Value to Caster. Go ahead and duplicate this entry and again call that duplicate however you wish. We will be coming back to these Behaviors and changing their Effect - Perodic field to the proper new effects we will make now.
So next we need two new effects, Again you can name the new effect however you like, the Effect Type should be Modify Player and then press okay. Only a couple of fields to edit here, first the Player+Value field should be changed to Source and then the Resources+Minerals value should be changed to 5. With that done, duplicate the effect, change the name to whatever you like and simply change the Resources+Minerals value to 0 and the Resources+Vespine value to 2. With that all done go back to our behaviors and change each Effect - Perodic field to the new effects you made. Congrats you have made two new passive buffs! Now we add them to a unit, add them to any unit you wish, to do so goto that units Behavior+ field and add your two new behaviors. Place the unit in the map, make sure not running it with the melee triggers! And run the map, now watch your Minerals and Vespine Gas, they will go up, 5 and 2 respectivly every 2 seconds!
This is pretty signifigant I belive, something that was simply a must do for triggers can now be done through pure data editing! Its just a taste but its a big one! So what did we do? Well the buffs if you watched Bifuu's vidoes is pretty self explantory, but the effects are something you dont see much of. The Modify Player effects appear to, modify player properties, anyone familer with player proprties from warcraft 3 or the new trigger editor should understand what that is. So in this effect one is modifying the players mineral count, ie adding 5, and the other his vespine gas, ie adding 2. Theres a lot of other fields there, and of course this could be expanded, but I think its a good omen for thoese of us used to doing trigger things, that simple stuff like this now dosnt need to be triggered!
I hope you find my contribution helpfull and insightfull, if more demand for it comes up i'll come up with a more proper video tutorial on the subject to show you all. Thanks again!
Something seems to be wrong with the video you uploaded, it is unreadable for me even in 720p or 1020p. Also if you could it would be great if you uploaded your finished map somewhere so we can try it out ourselves quickly without following the 30 minute tutorial.
Other than that, great work. Was thinking about doing a video tutorial on the same subject but will skip it now.
@Beider:
Hmm yeah I just noticed that damn, I'm not sure why ethier it must be youtube because the videos on my end look perfert. So fustrating ugh I was hoping it was just the lower res on youtube but thanks for the heads up i'll try to get it corrected for future videos, I dont have the raw footage anymore for thoese so not much I can do so my aplogies.
Gladly will upload the map here soon as soon as its acutally playable when it is up i'll be sure to have a link of it here on this post and any other tutorial post. If it looks like it will take to long to place the acutal map I have up i'll throw a quick tutorial map together to post instead. Glad its helpfull ethier way and thanks for the feedback always appreciated!
Nice. I have a similar effect using a trigger that just adds 1 gas for every building of that type owned by the player every 4 seconds. The floating text is an awesome addition that I've got to try.
