Attack Actors ... this section says " Actor Type: Attack Based on: GenericAttack" its Actor Type: Action Based on GenericAttack =O /jawdrop 1 word out of a million!
Okay so i've done the beginner tutorial to attachments and the advanced attachments tutorial and so i thought perhaps i could handle the Uberlisk tutorial and i was wrong lol.
I've created the Uberlisk unit and done all steps upto and including the last steps to doublecheck and re-check all my attachment points and adjustments with offset values. I even took the time to go over and over and over the Uberlisk example map you have done but i still cannot get the tentacles to function as they should. I mean i have tried it all but my uberlisk is identical in almost every way to the example one and i cant get the tentacles to retract back to their origional position on the unit... they launch they attack they impact and cause damage but they then hang over the last killed units spot and hover there extending forever....
can anyone help? i am all out of ideas on whats wrong with it... the worst part is i dont even get an editor error of any kind >.<
i just read this, and this is definitely one of the best tutorials ive ever read about site ops.
But is there way to make SOp adjustments scale with the host's model? For instance, I have a map that plays with a unit's size often; and it appears that this screws up the tentacle adjustments badly =(
i tried the "Scale to Host Flag" but it doesnt seem to work.
Considering the creations of BorgDragon, myself and Kueken531, an ultralisk with 6 leviathan like tentacles seems rather tame in hindsight.
That's sounds a little bitter, eh? Especially when you consider that my tutorial(s) on attachments laid the foundation for your "creations."
The saying "I was making attachments when you were still learning how the editor worked" seems appropriate.
The point of this tutorial was never to show off what I can do, but to show others how to create what they'd been wanting to since Blizzard's reveal.
@Everyone else
I'm almost done with the revamp of this tutorial. It will address some of the problems many of you are having as well as better answer questions that keep coming up despite me answering them multiple times. Hopefully it will be easier to follow and make more sense :)
Actually never used your tutorials. Still, they are good for beginners, was just saying that it is surprizing how many people want to recreate a cloned uberlisk for maps despite the age and other options.
Edit: Ok the one about attached turret models was useful for finding about the Attachment - Turret Body - Subject field.

I guess since it was the first advanced and jaw-dropping thing introduced at Blizzcon when Dustin Browder talked about the editor. But hey I still want my own uberlisk! =P
Took me a few hours to wrap up the knowledge from this tutorial; so why not slap it in a map lol. Those creations you mentioned were definitely very advanced site actoring and it would be awhile before I would attempt or even finish such a thing @_@.
Hi guys, I wonder how I could do my own "mixed" units. What I want to do is to get Kerrigan with 2 heads (one with kerrigan's head and one for Raynor's). Also, I wonder how to change the positions of the units that are on the other one. Plz help.
First of all, this is the single most well written tutorial I have ever seen.
That being said, MY HEAD HURTS. I spent the better part of two hours and this is my second attempt at this. So far I have a bunch of nasty errors- the attachments look fine, but I get the 'wiggle' effect and they don't appear to do damage. I know you must get this a lot, but if you have the time, could you help me?
I spent another few hours- no more errors, yay! But two of my tentacles seem to love the ground. They only return normally when they actually *hit* something- for some reason there seems to be a discrepancy there. I've checked and double checked the section about the tentacle "pinning" itself to the target, but there's nothing wrong there. What else might have caused this?
The tentacles dont appear on the uberlisk but they do damage. My uberlisk looks like an ultralisk but bigger than an ultralisk.(because of the scale)

I see a spelling error there! =O

Thanks for the great tutorial!
One thing though, everything seems to be working fine except that i get an error message everytime one of the spines attack something.
I am getting the following error messages:
EDIT: ok, i found the problem. its fixed now. :)

Wow DrSuperEvil...
Saying a tutorial made a year and a half ago, as an introduction to attachments and the data editor, is tame...
I don't really know where to begin.

Actually they are more time consuming than difficult. It takes alot of time getting the actors to look just right.

with new patches, there is no more "local operations". sorry to necro, but this is IMPORTANT!

What we need is a new tutorial from scratch on how to do all this in the new editor.

I do not have the time to do such a task, ATM I am trying to get my walker demo to beta.

This is still very accurate and you should be able to do it all with few problems... take a look at his attached demo map.

You messed something up with your Action actor. Check you have the correct value in the Art - Missile field.
