The time comes when using a large program such as 3ds Max trial just to convert models needs to stop... I understand that converting models to M3 is a lot more work. However, a tool or way to convert for those who don't do too complex animations or models, and instead do something simple, want only to replace textures, change Animation Names, Bones, add simple animations needs to be done.
I wanted a Milkshape 3D exporter for M3. Now, I understand no one wants to do it because Milkshape is some basic and limited. However, it is excellent for any basic models, such as Structures (I am specialized in doing such rather than humans or robots with complex animations). It is so easy to work with that program that anyone can learn with it, and is PERFECT for such more basic models that don't require IK animations and such. So I personally would continue to use it to make the shapes and texture them, even if no one wants to support this outdated Milkshape program. But there needs to be MS3D Import with Animations, Diffuse texture (later add normal, specular in other tool)
Magos War3Model Editor was able to import Ms3d with texture properly mapped once you import it as well, animations and everything, You could change Animation names, bones, do some basic scaling and such. Then export to mdx (war3). What Magos looks like:
If some too existed to do some basic things, such as team color, texture change, decal, without even particles, to import ms3d and export to M3, that will be much appreciated.
Blender, which is like a free tool to do such thing is HORRIBLE to use, the layout, the UI, the way you work with it - Compare it with Milkshape and you will see what I mean, Furthermore, those Python scripts and import/export may often not work, so this is not an option at all.
If one could get a completely INTACT MS3D object IMPORTED in Blender and EXPORTED TO M3 without any issues, I can go for Blender... but unless this is a way, and I think, a TOOL will be a much better. Ofc Ms3d can be only one of the imports, you can see if formats are supported for import and exported into M3, such tool would beMUST HAVE TOOL for everyone who does a custom model, like Magos is a must have for making war3 models..
