I use MPQ Editor to extract the appearance files which works just fine.
When I try to convert those .app files to .obj using D3AppConvert2Obj.exe I get errors. I've tried it on numerous .app files.

System.ArgumentException: The output char buffer is too small to contain the decoded characters, encoding 'Unicode (UTF-8)' fallback 'System.Text.DecoderReplacementFallback'.

Blizzard repackaged a lot of their files with the release of Reaper of Souls so the older ones don't work anymore. Try using Taylor Mouses. It worked the last time I used it. Plus it is better than an OBJ convertor.

What should I do ? Thanks.
PS - I'm using Win8 Pro 64-bit
If your using Taylor mouses model viewer located here http://www.sc2mapster.com/assets/sc1-raynor-vulture/files/42-diablo-iii-model-viewer/ than your out of luck as the .obj conversion does not work. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Hi,
I was using D3AppConvert2Obj.exe but I think it's outdated.
Is there no way to get at the Diablo 3 models, I really just want the meshes, not the animations or even textures.
Thanks.
