I thought we were not allowed to enter pre made bosses?
Who they are?
Smash TV and Crush Company were/have been developed for awhile now havent they? I am not complaining i just wish i knew because i have like 8 other bosses i could have submitted.
And your argument is invalid. How is your previous planetary bosses different then? They practically use the same system and mechanics as the other bosses do.
Even if you have worked on bosses before, it doesnt mean you couldnt make a new one.
I can attest (as I am the one who designed all of the boss's abilities) that the Smash TV boss, all the heroes, and all the cinematics (that were shown) were created entirely from scratch AFTER the contest started.

What the hell is your problem? Why does almost everyone seem to attack me whenever i say something. Did i ever say OGM IM NOT GONNA WIN BC OF THESE MAPS!? No, so YOUR argument is invalid. The only thing in common the other bosses have are the abilities the players use. I did make a new one and thats what i submitted, all i asked was a simple question yet you seem to come after me for some reason lol.
Also, im not asking for validation from the people that made those bosses. My question was i was under the impression that we could not do that. Thank you anyways Xenrathe, im not trying to accuse anyone i just saw those bosses and was curious if we were allowed, i was not suggesting anything negative towards those submissions.
Well for the record, there was no stipulation that you could not enter a previously created boss. I think it was kind of assumed that a new boss should be created for the contest, but this was never mentioned as a requirement.
I think I'm in the same boat as Bibendus in that the boss and things related to the boss were created after the announcement of the contest, but some other stuff like some gameplay mechanics, the terrain, etc was created before hand as my current main project. Our boss was created afterwards. For those interested in some proof, I've opened our project forum to the public and they can see the discussions xenrathe and I had during the development.
Just a note, I have NOT released the map on Bnet to the public due to the fact that this IS part of my main map, and I'd rather not remove most of the game (since everything is linked together). If anyone wants to play the Smash TV boss in multiplayer (Bnet US), send me a message on IRC and I'd be happy to host it for you and your friends ;)
Same for me, I started working back on Crush Company when I saw the contest (I stopped 1-2 months ago)
Consider that the contest itself was about the boss, not the hero abilities.
The focus of that are boss AI and abilities!!!
I'm the Guy who recorder for Zaraf. I had the sound off so i didn't get the audio cues thus i didn't dodge the massive lightning storm that killed me :D
I've got to say, your boss was very beautifully done! Very impressed. If we were judging on a complete package, you'd be my choice bar none! My favorite here, however slightly so, is the Smash TV boss. The combined visuals and implementation of patterns in his abilities are amazing.
And for shame picking on Bounty. He's very obviously chock full of artistic talent and he did create a brand new boss very much in the spirit of WoW. Find his pros and not his cons.
Also, thanks for the front page link. The content in these solo boss projects makes my hero defense look bland! However, if each boss I made looked as great as the ones in here the map would probably take several hours, lol.
The Final Boss for Smash TV 2010 is quite impressive indeed. I certainly believe that it could be put together within the duration of the contest, and the polish to it is amazing. The boss fight I threw together took me maybe 2-3 hours (not including the learning time for creating dodgeable projectiles)
Though I find it a bit ironic that the bosses least resembling WoW bosses are the ones that are being received better.
Thanks ;) Quite impressive you put together your boss in 2 - 3 hours. Especially for someone not very experienced. Excellent job done ;)
Yeah, vjeux originally misnamed this contest. I asked him right at the start if it needed to be WoW bosses, and he said no. So I asked him why he didn't just call it a "Scripted Boss Contest", and he said "Oh well, too late now." lol
So yeah, the point of this contest was scripted bosses, but for the sake of people understanding what a scripted boss is, WoW was used as a basis.

The map u saw on the left is the 3rd level of Crush Company ;)
Soon it will be released!

You can vote for multiple entries. Just vote for all the ones you like. No need to decide on only one.
