I might be wrong, but Friday is not October 19th, that would either be Tuesday 19th or Friday 15th
Edit II:
Final...Fixed balancing, still not (and not meant to be) 100% symmetrical. Added destructible rocks to the middle ramps.
Uploaded on EU Servers, have fun. :)
I guess I will forward my question to here, since there seems to be no response on the "How to make a Legacy Map" guide.
I am looking at recreating the map Full Circle for this contest, but there are some issues with the original map that I wanted to correct. first of all, I want to swap where the main and the nat are in the map (not change the cliff placement, but put the main on the high ground like is common in SC2 maps) and to also add a 3rd in addition to the middle expos (which will become gold). How much of the map are we able to change to still qualify for this contest, especially in the case of a map like Full Circle which has a lot of potential if it wasn't for some of the obvious flaws?
- •Recreate an SC1 Melee Map as you see fit. The goal is to create a balanced SC2 melee map, but must be a replicate of the original map. So that means the map itself must be correct in terms of cliff and player placement, etc. -
I may not be a mod but in my opinion I think any map can be changed any way the mapper thinks it's neccessary for good gameplay. The vote will be public (I hope they change that), but hopefully the voters will not jut have a quick glance at the minimaps but think of gameplay as well. People should keep in mind that SC2 gameplay has so many different requirements than SC1 maps had, and also that most of the old SC1 maps were imbalanced even for SC1.
On my map I changed a lot of things. Besides the obvious Watch Towers, Gold Expos and LOS Blockers, I added ground access to islands, changed ground height, made individual sectors smaller, made entrance space to player bases narrower, changed accesibility of cliffs.

I would assume it's fine to change things up a bit. As long the map looks pretty much the same I don't see a problem with it. In SC1 cliffs were only useful for ranged units and flying units, but now with jumping and cliff walking, obviously some liberties need to be taken with cliffs. No matter which way you look at it, the gameplay is going to be a lot different between the two games. Just try to adapt it as best you can while maintaining the look and layout of the classic map.
I want to re-ask the same thing as Robeezy: does the SC1 map have to be on that list of classic maps in the OP? As in a Blizzard classic map? Or can we remake a popular community map?
Here is another update on Showdown. The terrain is coming along nicely, and I decided to add some Arches to some of the paths just to give it a fun and strategic touch since the bases of the pillars on the archways can not support air or ground passage. I Touched up the Tar to have bones and debris inside of it as well and moved the top rich minerals closer to the top entry point. It's still not done yet, but I'll be posting it here when it is. There isn't to much left to do really besides touching up some eye candy.

We wanted to make a SC1 Blizzard only contest. In the future we might have another contest with WC3 or custom SC1 maps. There are tons of new custom-melee maps that have already been made but no really good quality old school ones.

It can be any SC1 map. That list was just a reference.
Well I think I have finished Showdown. After adding some eye candy and fixing a few messed up areas, I think I'm ready here. Give me feedback on it, this is my first melee map as well :x I've got the download up along with map photos and the original.
I decided to give it a try, i dont know if Wheel of War is an Official SC1 map, but i liked it back when i was playing SC1.
So i started it, it still work in progress. I'll add screenshots soon when the map will be looking good enough.
So far I've redone an old ladder map, Crusader. It's 4 player, could be fun 2v2. My remake has a front door only, with destructable debris blocking your small natural. Xel Naga tower in the center... The remake was designed to be a bit smaller than the original, ideally faster paced. I figured the close proximity of all the bases would make it ideal for harassment... but this was my first melee map so I'm not really sure how it's going to rank.
PS: Anyone know why I'm unable to click/load attachments anymore? Images work fine but anything else loads as a text file, and the only way to get them to work is to right-click save as and type the correct file extension. :/
Not as detailed as I would like it, but I'm terrible at doing details for space platform tileset.
It is not an exact 1:1 replica of the map, I modified it to fit sc2, chokes are smaller, center is less open and turned sideways because it fit better that way.
Removed mineral only expansion because it isn't needed in sc2.
If this is a overview replica contest, then I'm pretty sure I lose,
I think I'm done with Stepping Stones. I'll attach my map now. I decided, after testing it with some friends for imbalances, to add in ramps to the high-ground naturals, however they are blocked by destructible rocks. I've also resized some islands and repositioned a few things, in order to be out of range of sieged tanks. On top of the original SC1 map image, here is a fully ultra-rendered image for you to enjoy, as well as the map file itself.
EDIT: I'm turning these pics into previews. The map actually needs some work, mainly balance issues. I've found after playing with some friends that this map is EXTREMELY favored towards terran, moreso than the original, and extremely disfavored towards Zerg (can't even expand early, Zerg need that in sc2). Hence, I'm revising some of the layout (to exact details, for example avoiding tank harass, adjusting watch tower positions to make them only reveal what i want them to reveal, etc) and the new version should be out soon.
So, heres what I have so far of my map, not quite entering it yet as I would like to get some people to play on it who are much more skilled than I am, but either way I think it ended up better than I originally anticipated it would be!
Looking good, BigBlue! I think I have competition now :D
Okay, so, I have a release candidate published on the US servers. Please, do test it. It's got the name "Stepping Stones Classic". Some pics are attached.
So after working on Ashrigo I decided to try converting another, this time Highland Denizens, another 4 player map. I'll keep this post updated with the progress on that map. Here's the original and my version, and the latest build of the map itself. I think I can call this one pretty much done until I can get more play testing in. It's published on US as well, so go give it a play.
@RodOfNOD: Go
My bad, I was sooo looking for making that map... I'll think about making another one.
In the sc1 version i have, i had BGH installed with the game. Thanks for telling me, and sorry for my ignorance :P
Need something blueish!
Fading Realm (2)
Still some balancing issues to fix, mainly plateau sizes...
Edit:

Oh we have to do a Blizzard map? I thought any would do. Mine is from official League's. :/ Guess I'll start all over.

I've decided I'm going to do Stepping Stones, shaking this contest up a bit with a three player map.
