I say the merged units should be used for a combination of harassment, support and heavy fire power behind the front lines of the army. Of course this depends on the individual unit.
Yeah you need a few corrupters to do aa for the broodlords, but that is a late game strat. Archons are pretty useless nowdays, the colossus has replaced them as the main protoss killer unit.

Although...the archon is the only heavy ground unit for protoss that has an anti air weapon. Stalker is decent in late game, but archons are good too, only weakness is that short attack range and their bulkiness. Plus colossi are easily beaten by anti air or anti ground units. I don't understand why people don't use archons more often. Anyway...one thing that would make the game even with all races is a long ranged siege weapon for this race. Not sure if you have one yet, but the terrans have siege tanks, protoss have colossus, and zerg have brood lords and are coming out with the swarm host...maybe...but I'm thinking if you don't have one, that this race should have a siege unit.
Ahh...now I remember...I was pondering over the different roles of all the current units as a hobby and one day I just thought of the siege tank and went, "There's nothing like the siege tank." but realized that wasn't true. I called that role the Artillery unit. Yes, we need an artillery unit...I have some thoughts...
-Slow 6 legged walker with a big cannon with 2 barrels on its back
-2 large shells shot from each barrel per shot that flies over the map to the target slowly...until it lands
-2 large explosions on impact dealing a small amount of aoe similar to siege tank
-Doesn't come with shield, but in return for its slow moving self, it comes with heavy plating that gives it 1-2 armor and about...250 or so life?
There was the walker that shot anti armored missiles, the artillery instalation crated by the one spell caster and the T3 unit could be upgraded for anti structure.

Well, the idea was to create a siege tank based unit, but more towards this race. I think (my opinion) that it needs to be its own unit. It was meant to be an aoe long ranged unit. That's the general purpose. If we decide to make the unit an upgrade to an already existing unit, the race wouldn't exactly have the focus on artillery like the other 3. This is my thinking.

@DrSuperEvil: I'd consider Brood Lords and Swarm Hosts as artillery (siege) units. The Utralisk is more a powerful tanker unit. Protoss have Colossi and to some extent Void Rays. Terrans have Siege Tanks and I can't think of another. I'd say we can go ground siege or air siege, but depending on each unit's limitations we can go both ways.
The walker isn't an artillery unit. If the walker can outrange defenses with a range of 7 and can only attack ground, then it's perfect. But, I don't think so.
Fine, if you can replace a siege tank with whatever you're talking about, then go ahead, but I'm just saying it should be its own unit.
Edit: I think it's about time we got a bit more organized. I think there's 2 ways to settle the issue. 1 is to wait for a long time until the race is closing on finishing and testing how powerful the artillery unit idea is. The other is a lot better, in my opinion. I think we need to take notes on all the details on balance for all the units, upgrades, structures, amount of unit types, etc for the protoss, terran, zerg, and this race. Then I think we should compare and contrast and see what holes need to be filled. I will volunteer to do the protoss and terran and if nobody else will, the zerg too. I'd like it if we got somebody to strip all the unit and structure ideas off of the main page and updated it and got that working so we can compare them. What does everybdoy else think?
@yukaboy: Go I like the idea. creating some sort of table comparing the 4 races and their roles. I can help but not right now, maybe next month. We need to compare tiers and the standard strategies used by players, and we must take HoTS into consideration.
Here's an example of what 1 unit in one of the "table reports" looks like. I did one on the probe real quick.
Update: 2nd example shows off the zealot which also includes unit role. Probe is obviously the worker so it didn't need that. I will post 1 final example showing off a building and how those work.
