I love this structure. It reminds me of the twilight tile set doodads in SC1 with the curvy shapes. I always assumed those were XN doodads. I can find any pictures but I'm sure you have access to the game.
I don't know if you checked out the Hybrid mod yet but the harvester I made out of a XN tower doodad from SC2. My inspiration was a similar ship looking tower doodad from the SC1 twilight tile set. I don't think it's coincidence that the styles are so similar. Maybe they did intend on the doodads being XN in origin.
Yeah, I think they did. One doodad in sc1 of the twilight tileset looks to be inspired by space jockeys, and after watching Prometheus, I guess we could say seems like the doodads there have the same style in mind.
I'm kinda thinking Xel'Nagan harvesters would be like automated extractors that the player would deploy on a mineral field. There will be limited numbers of them per a building that can cast them.
My thoughts are that, the townhall of Xel'Naga would be called a "Core". It can spawn two building types: an Assimilator Node, and a Collector Node. A Core can deploy 6 Extractors for free, but this ability for the core can only cast 6 and that's it.
Collector Nodes will be able to spawn 3 Extractors at cost. It must be cast on a mineral field. Each Extractor will have a lifespan, and will expire, by which time, the Collector Node will have one more ready to cast. Extractors will behave like automated extractors, and will immediately add minerals to the player's resources.
Assimilator Nodes are built on Vespene geysers, and will act as automated gas extractors.
Cores can also construct 'Weaver Drones', which will transform into Conductors, where Xel'Nagan buildings can be materialized.
These Conductors are pads laying on the ground, and can spawn basic structures.
Players can then upgrade their Cores, to a Beacon. Beacons can be upgraded to Spires. I already have an idea for Spires.
Tech research buildings can only be summoned once the player has Spires. Beacons can summon Constructor Ships, floating buildings that can spawn units.
The Core looks like a Ring layed flat horizontally, above ground, and has a ball in the middle.
Beacons have the ball opened up and laying on the ground. Particle effects would show a stream of light shooting up to the sky.
Spires would then materialize at the middle of the ring, and the townhall will be in it's full form.

That looks amazing. Is that the same structure, in different modes?
Also, I like the ideas you suggested. However, I would also incorporate the idea that Xel'Naga can change form, merge, and dissassemble at will, as if they are made of nanomachines. However, they would be a perfect mix of nano-machines and organic tech. Their cells look organic but act like nanomachines. It's the perfect synthesis of biology and machine. Some form of warping in or teleporting would make sense, too. :P
Wow this is coming along nicely. I love the zealot. The real gem here is that Hybrid though.Very unique. I feel like that is what I imagined a Hybrid kind of looking like when I played the secret mission for the first time.
I LOVE ITS HEAD!
The buildings look great too. I have no idea what any of them do but they inspire curiosity.
Cool. What if Xel'Naga construction would illustrate that?
The Weaver Drones would deploy and swirly machine dust cloud will appear, then the building, for example.
Edit:
I think it would be nice if the second set of arms for the hybrids here are zerg claws. Claws like that of hydras.
Looks really sick. The dust cloud idea could work, yeah. Then they could also slowly turn into liquid goo and then condense into solid form?
And I say give it a try (the Hydra claws idea).
It's all looking really really sick! Keep it up :)
P.S. - If you want some interesting ideas, feel free to check out this mod for Red Alert 2: http://www.moddb.com/mods/mental-omega
It has many interesting gameplay mechanics, especially for it's 4th side/faction, The Foehn.
im busy right now, well, i was packed already, but since the flooding, i decided to shift focus and complete assets relevant to a given project currently being worked on.
keep posting, ill keep checking. the change of color here on the site somehow makes me not want to visit as much as i did in the past.

Here's a list of Blitz Cards from Halo Wars 2...Perhaps some of these can inspire interesting gameplay mechanics or visual designs for units: https://www.halopedia.org/List_of_Blitz_cards
Gna, when are we going to have these cool models for Mass Recall? We only had Carrier, but no additional wireframes and shields, and icon? Arbiter Tribunal, Observatory, and Citadel of Adun really needs a fit in for the Protoss.
Same with Zerg Structures - Defiler Mound, Queen's Nest.
Better add death animations too. :)
Oh, how's the progress going? It's been a while....

@GhostNova91: Go Thanks Ghost. I'll be posting more updates as soon as I'm rested up and settled.
@AlexO6: Go
Cloud and liquid both. Liquid is easier, cloud would require particles. We'll see when we get to them.
Thanks Alex. Those Metal Omega designs would be nice for a UED faction and sub-factions.

We'll cross that bridge when we find it, then. And I completely agree, those would make for some interesting UED designs. :)
