i dont know if you can destroy cliffs like that because if you have to use units or buildings then the pathway's are obvious and anyone with half a brain will be able to guess where the banelings will go
IF it is possible i definitely think it would be worth adding, oh and the easter egg idea was cool too
I bet there's a trigger that allows a map change. What could happen is somebody makes several versions of the same map with each new area taken out of the next and then have a brief CG of Banelings destroying the area and have some dust or something covering the camera while the maps change so that the player doesn't know the difference.
Map change trigger doesn't work on multiplayer atm, and cliffs are not editable while running the game either (think Blizz mentioned they won't change that unless it's really needed).
So what happen to this project? just no interest? I wanted to suggest looking at shadow TD, which is on this site. It was never released to the servers and the map stop being updated. it was by the sc2 scientist guy, and it was still the best TD I've played in the past year.
If you ever get to the point of need art let me know.
I went through an international move, and all my stuff just arrived last week, that on top of a new job and with settling everything. Expect to see some updates over the next week :)

I found a Next Map trigger. I wonder if this could be implemented into the CG without having a new loading screen. LOL
