A couple of months ago, I made a post on the Blizzard forum, where I laid out a general outline for how I think StarCraft 2 should have gone, and generally people seemed to like me ideas.
Someone on another forum who I talked to, who I showed them my idea, said "Why don't you actually make this a campaign using the editor." To which I said "Because my retarded !@# can barely use the internet without something going wrong." I am not tech savvy, to say the least.
So he then recommend I try looking for people who are, and ask around for anyone who'd be willing and able to help.
And that's what I'm doing now.
As of today, since then, I've been reworking my outline, this project of mine would consist on 3 campaigns, Zerg, Protoss and Terran in that order, 12 missions each.
I've designed the first 8 maps for the Zerg campaign and have written out, up to the 4th mission, the general events and dialog.
But now I need to find the person/persons that can help make this idea of mine into a reality.
(I need to find my spirit warriors, A+ to whoever gets that reference.)
So if you have even a passing interest, and would like to know more, just to see if what I've been working on is worth your time and effort then let me know here.
People are very willing to give you advice and critiques of your map as well as troubleshoot issues with the editor, but you will be hard-pressed to find anyone who will code up your campaign for you. Most people have their own projects and so so little time to dedicate to them. I started two years ago and barely got a playable 1st map together and now I've had to put everything on hold for graduate school.
Here is my advice:
Play the Perfect Soldier's campaign by Evindl. It is amazing. Open up each of his maps and check out what he did for each part of the mission. The Crimson Moon portion of the campaign is especially good here because its his first foray into mapmaking and is pretty easy to understand.
Play the 1st 4 maps of WoL and see how they coded everything
Check out the Custom Campaign Initiative and the advice we have there.
Watch Jayborino's interview of Telenil, the lead author of Mass Recall...linked on the CCI page
Check out the Wiki at the top of the page
Complete the Blizzard tutorials that are linked in the wiki...they are little out of date, but very relevant.
Document everything you learn. Keep notes and be very methodical.
When you make your first map ask very specific questions for problems you are encountering and include your code or just put up your map.
Try to figure out ways to make your work-flow/coding efficient and eliminate redundancy.
Take an online Intro to Computer Science class
Start making some simple easy maps that have stories that you like, but be easy on yourself in the code and terrain!!
Publish the maps and maybe you can recruit some people
Map-making takes a lot of time and can be very frustrating, but it can be incredibly rewarding. This is an awesome site with some very talented and all-around awesome people. Good luck!!
This is something that has been suggested to me before, however the problem for me is that, I know myself too well to know that going that route will get me nowhere.
If I try to learn how to use the editor, it will end with me not understanding the system, getting frustrated and just quit altogether, and all I'll have accomplished is wasting time and effort, as I've said before I'm just not technically minded, and I understand that people are busy, I've heard that the editor is a pain to use, and that people have their own projects to work on.
I'm not under the illusion that this will get done, but I will always push for it, and I will do whatever is within my ability to make this work, everyone has their role to play but mine is not as a programmer.
What I will do, I think what I should do, is just post the work that I've done and maybe at some point down the road, I'll find what I need.
But thanks for the advice just the same, and stick around, tell me what you think of my ideas, I can use a second opinion, and I want this to be a collaborative effort.
Alright so here is the first draft for mission one.
I'm sure that there are specific details that I've missed when writing this down here, but this is all the dialog and notes for how I'd like the mission to be designed.
Mission 1 - LAB RAT
Infested Terran Platform Over Char
Briefing Scene:
Izsha: My Queen, I apologize for the interruption, but there is a matter that requires your attention.
Kerrigan: (Annoyed) What is it Izsha?
Izsha: It appears that a small Terran force has landed on the far side of the platform and is preparing to attack. We've intercepted a message between their forces and a command ship holding in orbit around Char.
General Warfield: (Static) All right men. This is the day you've all been training for, operation regicide is in effect. Intel confirms that The Queen of Blades is hiding somewhere on this platform, so Emperor Mengsk wants every last inch of it cleaned out. After today the zerg will never threaten the Dominion again. Operational command will now be turned over to the Moebius Corp. Remember your training and you will make it back alive, Warfield out.
Kerrigan: So Arcturus is up to his old tricks again. It took him long enough.
Zagara: My Queen, there is a large hive cluster already close to the Terran camps, allow me the pleasure of ripping these weaklings apart.
-After map loads first trigger event, nuclear launch on Zerg base in upper left hand corner,
-Hide lower right Zerg Base until later.
-Restrict buildable Zerg combat units to Zerglings and Queens.
After missile strike, area is covered in toxic gas that destroys Zerg structures and units.
Zagara: My Queen! The terrans are deploying a new weapon that is devastating our forces.
Reveal Ghost Academy in lower right corner.
Kerrigan: That must be were they are launching the missiles from, Zagara, destroy that building, quickly!
New Objective: Destroy Ghost Academy
(If player sends units into gas, only trigger once) Abathur: Warning, biological compound destructive to Zerg genetic makeup, avoid toxin completely.
-When Zerg units reach first bridge reveal second Zerg area nuke as before but leave space for zerglings to pass through.
Kerrigan: "Mengsk will pay for this."
(When unit's reach close to Ghost Academy) Ghost: "Seriously Doc, why does this stuff smell like lemon juice?"
(After Ghost Academy is destroyed, drop gas canister.) Abathur: Possible to build immunity to Terran toxin, sample is required.
New Objective: Use drone to retrieve gas canister (either back to base or spawn waypoint.)
Trigger: Player 2 (Red/Terrans) switch from defense to offense.
Marine: "Those bastards took out the launch pad, wax 'em."
Trigger: (Once canister is at base.) Abathur: "Chemical compound effect yet crude, spinning gene sequences...Zerg Brood now Immune to toxin."
(Leave gas field on map, turn off damage.)
Trigger: After Main Red base is destroyed. Warfield: "Moebius team report! What the hell's going on down there!?
Reveal Main White Base, Spawn Gabriel Tosh Hero unit.
Tosh: "General, it appears that shortly after coming into contact with the neurotoxin the zerg have developed complete immunity to it."
Warfield: "Your science division assured us that was impossible!
Tosh: "Obviously there was some variable involved here that we could not foresee, in any case if we do not retreat immediately, your men will be overrun in a matter of minutes."
Warfield: "Very well Coronal, pull your men out and return to the ship."
I have been refining the specifics missions and for now I'll give the run down on my planned Zerg Campaign, again spoilers ahead.
Mission 1 - Lab Rat: Alpha Squadron and Moebius Corp. attempt to assassinate Kerrigan on Char and fail. Introduction of Warfield and Tosh.
Mission 2 - Supreme: Kerrigan awakens the Cerebrate from StarCraft 1, named Zurvan, to lead the Swarm against Mengsk and who Abathur has replaced all traces of the Overminds dna and replaced it with Protoss genetic material, turning him into a Pseudo-Hybrid, Broodmother Zagara objects and Kerrigan pits them against each other.
Mission 3 - Planetfall: The Swarm attack Mar Sara, which is under the control of the Kel-Morian Combine, introduces Mira Han as a leader in that faction.
Mission 4 - Harvest of Screams: Same concept as in HotS, Broodmother was sent to Kaldir and killed, Broodmother Zagara goes to investigate and destroys a Protoss colony.
Mission 5 - With Friends Like These: Kerrigan attack a Terran settlement built inside an asteroid field, which unknown to her is being managed by the Magistrate, hilarity ensues.
Mission 6 - Death From Above: The fleet that was assigned to the Kaldir colony finds the Zerg still in the aforementioned asteroid field, and attempt to aid the Terrans fight the Zerg.
Mission 7 - Old Soldiers: The Swarm enters Dominion space and attacks a highly defended security outpost, Skygierr Station, which houses the bulk of Alpha Squadron and General Warfield's main base, Warfield escapes the stations destruction on his personal Battlecruiser, but not without a few unwanted guests.
Mission 8 - Infestation: Zerg infest Warfield ship, turning the majority of the crew into infested Terrans.
Mission 9 - Enemy Within: A renegade Zerg Brood on Tarsonis attacks Kerrigan brood, which leads her to believe that Mengsk has developed a means to control the Zerg, similar to the U.E.D.
Mission 10 - Fire In the Sky: The Swarm attacks Korhals orbital defense platform and the Korhal Defense Fleet .
Mission 11 - Domination: Basically a combination of the final two missions in HotS, Kerrigan confronts Mengsk, introduction of Valerian.
Mission 12 - Hand of Darkness: Kerrigan senses a psionic emination on a barren planet, believing it's Valerian with a new Psi Disruptor she attacks, finding Tosh and the Moebius Corp. Kerrigan is knocked out by a Xel'Naga device, her fate is unknown.
Well if u dont hear from anyone you could do the reverse and find a campaign maker who looks for a writer. Maybe u gain some experience and get some friends who help u out than.
@SamsaraNoMas: Go
I have found some people who are willing to help, they just can't do so right now, but not matter how long it takes, I will keep pushing to make this work, I know that there's no guarantee that it will, because that's life. But I will do what I can and see how far it takes me. That's really what this is all for, just a place to showcase my ideas and my work.
Here's my outline for part 2 of 3 - Legacy of the Void.
Mission 1 - Templars Return: After the event's of HotS the Protoss Hierarch Karass, (The Executor of the original games.) becoming aware of the Zergs invasion of the Terran sector, promotes Admiral Artanis, who has studied under him since Brood Wars, to Executor, and charges him with stemming the there advance.
The first mission would consist of destroying Zerg bases on an infested planet.
Mission 2 - Purification: Artanis learns that the Tal'Darim (Who have kept themselves isolated up until now), has begun a crusade that involves the genocide of the Terrans and Artanis chooses to intervene.
Mission 3 - Harbinger of Doom: Artanis sends another Protoss commander (Urun, Mohandar or Selendis) to secure a location to continue the war effort, the commander finds Mira Han's Kel-Morian forces fighting against Valerian's Dominion forces, the mission ends with a Zerg Brood being commanded by a Hybrid overrunning both sides, causing them to retreat and the Protoss face the Hybrid.
Mission 4 - A Sinister Turn: Artanis receives a distress call from Shakuras, the Zerg are attacking New Antioch, Artanis returns to help (The Temple stopped functioning after being used in Brood Wars). Before Artanis can get back however, the Tal'Darim (Ma'lash and Alarak) and we learn about the Tal'Darim's backstory (They were the Templar that joined Aldaris's uprising during Brood War, and want to destory the Dark Templar and the High Templar that, as they see it are just as responsible as Kerrigan for Losing Aiur and murdering Aldaris.)
Karass is killed by Ma'lash and Alarak, but lives long enough to speak to Artanis, asking him to not let the Protoss fall.
Mission 5 - Temple of Unification: The Dark Templar Vorazun offers to infiltrate the Tal'Darim's stronghold and assassinate Ma'lash, during the attempt she is captured.
Mission 6 - Templars Charge: Ma'lash using Vorazun as bait leads Artanis into a trap which pits him against Alarak, Artanis wins and Ma'lash impressed offers Artanis to join him if he proves himself loyal to the Khala and kills Vorazun, Artanis refuses and before they are both killed by Ma'lash, Zeratul saves them and Ma'lash retreats.
Mission 7 - Spear of Adun: Ma'lash attempt to flee in his mothership The Spear of Adun, Zeratul and his forces board it, confronting and defeating Ma'lash, but not before he hints that he's serving a powerful master.
Mission 8 - Unsealing the Past: Zeratul reconnects with Artanis and explains what he has discovered since first learning about the Hybrids.
The mission is a solo hero map, with Zeratul going through a Xel'Naga ruin that's been overrun with Zerg, and that explains Duran's backstory and introduces Amon into the plot.
(At some point in Duran's life he scouted out the ruins and found a Xel'Naga crystal that housed Amons consciousness, and Amon merged his mind with Durans.)
Mission 9 - Amons's Reach: Moebius Corp. using Hybrids to attack the Protoss, at the end of the mission, the Protoss discover that Moebius has built a Hybrid facility on Aiur.
Mission 10 - For Aiur!: Artanis invades Aiur to reclaim it from the zerg, basiclly the same as the first mission in actual LotV.
Mission 11 - Ghost in the Fog: The Protoss attack Moebius's hybrid facility and fight Tosh/Duran.
(We find out that Amon has already left Duran and is inside a host body.)
Mission 12 - In Utter Darkness: Amon contacts Zeratul and Artanis on Aiur and we learn more about his goal. (Amon is the last surviving Xel'Naga after the Overmind destroyed his people, and the Hybrids are his way of rebuilding his race, and those who serve him faithfully will have their minds transferred into the body of one of his Hybrids, while he enslaves all lower races.)
Zeratul and Artanis refuse to go along with his plan, so Amon orders all the remaining Zerg and Hybrids on Aiur to kill them and their forces, basiclly the same as the In Utter Darkness mission from WoL, expect the Protoss win.
Artanis and Zeratul discuss how their fight isn't over, but that for now their people can once again stand proud on their homeworld.
cool i hope i can help somehow . My abilitys of the editor is that of a janitor and some intellect is missing but if u ever need testers or some dirty work just pm me :D
That wouldn't be impossible considering all of the amazing in game cut scenes that already exist within actual StarCraft 2, and when writing out these scene, I try to keep in mind how they could play out in game, just to make sure it can be done at all.
Mission 1 - Breakout: Valerian, having to deal with the Dominion being in complete chaos, is forced to deal with the one man he knows with experience fighting the Zerg, Raynor having been a prisoner of the Dominion is offered a deal, amnesty for services rendered, Raynor accepts, his focus being to kill Kerrigan since Mengsk is already dead. The Zerg attack New Folsom and Raynor with the help of Nova must escape and join what left of the Dominion forces.
Mission 2 - Outlaws: Raynor teams up with his old friend Tychus Findlay, who leads a mercenary group and is also under Valerians payroll to attack a supply depot that has fallen to the Tal'Darim.
Mission 3 - Cutthroat: Continuing the plotline from the Protoss campaign Valerian seeks an audience with the leaders of the Kel-Morian Combine for a ceasefire. Mira Han, having worked with Tychus and Raynor, hinting to Heaven's Devils, invites them. Mira Han reveals that she already has a contract with a "mysterius benefactor" to kill Valerian, Raynor refuses to join the scheme and he and Tychus come under fire, Nova and her strike team move to save them.
Mission 4 - Evacuation: Same basic premises as in WoL, introduction of Dr. Hanson, who is an advance weapons researcher for the Dominion.
Mission 5 - Ghost of a Chance: After Mengsks death several Dominion worlds have fallen under the control of Dominion warlords who refuse to accept Valerian as their leader, and Nova is sent in to assassinate one of them, Colonel Orlan and bring the planets back under Dominion control.
Mission 6 - Shatter the Sky: After the recent string of success Valerian becomes over confident of his eventual victory, after receiving a message from Kerrigan telling him of her plan to attack a Dominion outpost, Valerian orders the fleet to attack leaving Raynor behind when he objects, this being an obvious trap. Raynor does decide to follow Valerian if only to make sure he doesn't get himself killed. Valerians forces take serious losses and Valerain learns his lesson, promising to not put his ego before his people.
Mission 8 - Maw of the Void: Tal'Darim and Zerg forces attempt to secure a Xel'Naga ruin, Raynor goes to investigate and runs into Zeratul and the Protoss who are here for the same reason.
Mission 9 - The Moebius Factor: Zeratul explanes to Raynor and Valerian the true cause of the war and joins Raynors forces in an attack against a Moebius Hybrid facility.
Mission 10 - Zero Hour: After receiving a distress message about the Zerg attack on a Dominion outpost, Raynor goes to save the base, but instead finds the remnants of the U.E.D. fleet lead by Captain Matt Horner (who would be the same Captain from Brood War), who blames Raynor for Mengsks escape at the battle of Korhal and for destroying the Psi-Disruptor, during the fighting nearby Zerg attack and after some convincing from Valerian and Dr.Hanson, Raynor saves the U.E.D. forces from the Zerg.
Mission 11 - Piercing the Shroud: Captain Horner joins Valerians forces to fight the Zerg, and offers the techinacl data that he has on the Psi-Disruptor. A plan is formed to use smaller versions of the Psi-Disruptor against the Hybrids to test their effect on them, using the Disruptors proves successful, but doesn't go unnoticed by Amon.
Mission 12 - Gates of Hell: Amon contacts the Terrans and reveals that he awaits for them on Char, the mission is a fight between the Dominion/Protoss/U.E.D. verse the Combine/Tal'Darim/Zerg. With Amon defeated Kerrigan is freed from his control and has a final encounter with Raynor.
The story is good but im curious did you come up with some creative gameplay or u intend the mapmakers to come-up with it? I mean the story is usually tied into the gameplay.
I've designed the maps for up until the 9th mission in the Zerg campaign and I know what I want on the maps and how the events within the game should take place, I just don't know jack shit about scripting or programming A.I., or making in game cutscenes, I know what I want to happen, I just don't know how to do it.
Update: I have finished the 12th and final map for my Heart of the Swarm remake, and will start working on the dialog, still need someone who knows the basics of the editor, but I have found some people who might be able to help, just not at the moment.
A couple of months ago, I made a post on the Blizzard forum, where I laid out a general outline for how I think StarCraft 2 should have gone, and generally people seemed to like me ideas.

I guess StarCraft: Reborn is a bit obvious title at this point. :D

That wouldn't be impossible considering all of the amazing in game cut scenes that already exist within actual StarCraft 2, and when writing out these scene, I try to keep in mind how they could play out in game, just to make sure it can be done at all.
Wings of Liberty (Part 3 of 3)
Mission 1 - Breakout: Valerian, having to deal with the Dominion being in complete chaos, is forced to deal with the one man he knows with experience fighting the Zerg, Raynor having been a prisoner of the Dominion is offered a deal, amnesty for services rendered, Raynor accepts, his focus being to kill Kerrigan since Mengsk is already dead.
Mission 7 - Heaven's Fall: Tal'Darim attack Dominion refugees, Raynor moves to stop them.

@SamsaraNoMas: Go
I've designed the maps for up until the 9th mission in the Zerg campaign and I know what I want on the maps and how the events within the game should take place, I just don't know jack shit about scripting or programming A.I., or making in game cutscenes, I know what I want to happen, I just don't know how to do it.
Update: I have finished the 12th and final map for my Heart of the Swarm remake, and will start working on the dialog, still need someone who knows the basics of the editor, but I have found some people who might be able to help, just not at the moment.
Update: Working on second draft of script, hoping to have it ready by the end of the week, and will start posting them next Monday.
