As long as I can still post the map myself after the contest without being disqualified. I have an RPG series to finish. If I lose the first map, I'm screwed!
Edit: And I hate the vague nature of all this. My map has a webpage and a forum thread in two places. Doesn't that mean it's displayed and thus not qualified? ARGHHH.

I'm going to get more information on it, don't worry for now.
Actually, I think nobody at SC2 mapster is capable of doing this. Not person wise, but coz people just cant work in team, everyone wants to be a leader, and most of the time they set their goals too high and then their project dies.
And whole limitation of this contest is silly. You can test maps in SP only, so I assume everyone should make SP map, since you cant test in MP(not allowed to slow).
Also, deadline is ridiculous also. Less then a month ? That means that you have to create some small, original minigame thing that is SP.
Actually, that is not so hard, tho I bet lots of people will try to make some big projects that will end up unfinished.
I think the "unreleased" thing is meant for participants to create a map within the month available since projects that have been developed since the start of the beta would have an unfair advantage.
Do you seriously believe they'll allow the advertisement of this site?
I was at the Launch party for SC2 in SoCal and nobody said anything when I got interviewed... camera crew asked me what I was most excited about and I told them it was getting to make my own Mods and Maps and then I plugged Mapster and nobody gave me an evil look.

I suppose you can publish your map as private and test it with friends, they just don't want that you spam around what you are doing so they can make a surprise at blizzcon ;)

Well, we can't have teams, everyone has to go it alone. Unless of course, only one person can get the prize...

What does it mean by 'Displayed'? Can we announce it? Post teaser screen shots? Or has it got to be 'More secret than MI5, MI6, the FBI and the CIA put together. Oh, and a random SAS regiment for good measure' type secret? Because if it means that we can't make a map page on SC2Mapster (without an actual map), then i'm pretty much f*cked :/
Lol can the maps be completely uber messy? just a wall of triggers with no functions and library with no organization and multiple triggers with the same event and stuff like that. If so, this is actually not that hard even with that time limit, just make the map as you go with a simple story and simple "uniqueness" and uber flashiness visuals (assuming blizzard would rate your map with a high end computer). Also unused units actors and scraps in the data editor that's left unused and just hogging up space.
P.S. - does it violate any rule to post a paragraph yelling at blizzard in the loading screen for the stupid popularity system?

I think you should submit two entrys if you want to yell @ blizzard XD
Not that I mind taking blizzards money (I'm such a shoe in! ahahahahahahhahaa)... but doing this right after the game released... making map makers hold their maps back from the public for a month or two, that's kinda stupid....
By submitting the map you grant licensing rights to Blizzard
Entertainment, and will not display, post, or share it until after the
contest closes on September 11, 2010.
It's just IMPOSSIBLE to make a map without displaying it first. It's the
same to say that you have to make a map, but you cannot test if your map
works. Every time I publish a map on battle.net, I find a few bugs.
Anyway, the BEST maps are published. So, we cannot send maps that were
published before?
That wasn't real, btw. If you Ctrl+F that phrase in the official rules page, you won't see it anywhere.
Come on, man. You people are too fucking gullible..
One of the mandatory checkboxes you have to tick says the following; By submitting this map I am granting licensing rights to Blizzard Entertainment, and will not display, post, or share it until after the contest closes on September 11, 2010.*
The full explanation of licensing rights is,
Sponsor Use of Entries. You hereby agree that in consideration of your being allowed the chance to enter the Contest, you hereby grant Blizzard Entertainment, Inc., a perpetual, non-exclusive, worldwide license and right to utilize the entry materials that you submit to Sponsor in connection with the Contest (collectively, "Entry Materials"). The Entry Materials will not be returned to any entrant. Without limiting the generality of the foregoing, you acknowledge that Sponsor shall have the right to use, modify, reproduce, publish, perform, display on all forms of media, distribute, make derivative works of and otherwise commercially and noncommercially exploit the Entry Materials in perpetuity and throughout the universe, in any manner or medium now existing or hereafter developed, without separate compensation to you or any other person or entity. You agree to take, at Sponsor's expense, any further action (including, without limitation, execution of affidavits and other documents) reasonably requested by Sponsor to effect, perfect or confirm Sponsor's rights as set forth above in this paragraph 7.
I'm pretty sure that the guys posting such an important piece of information wouldn't just make it up, and some extra looking around proved that right.

Other words, "I can copy your map, say that was my idea, publish it in my name, give you nothing for that, and you cannot do anything because you allowed me to"
Blizzard wouldn't do anything so drastic, all of that legal fine-print is essentially cookie cutter for contests like this, so in the event that Blizzard does showcase your work and use it for any kind of promotional or other uses you don't turn around and claim that they had no right to do so. All of those intense words are just them covering all possible and unforeseeable bases.

As a side note... I look forward to competing in the new movie contest for blizzcon 2010... :D:D

What if I send my maps on the EU contest? My maps are only published on Battle.net NA.
By the way, my maps aren't that popular. Will they really not allow me to send my maps just because it was published before?
I think it's a world contest and not divided by continet so published on EU or NA or SEA or whatever wouldn't change anything I suppose
Well, we can't have teams, everyone has to go it alone. Unless of course, only one person can get the prize...
Really? Nice, ^_^.
If I change slightly details in my map, is it considered another map?
