Hi guys, Looking for some input (and if anyone is interested, some help). I'm in the concept design phase of creating a "DotA" style map.
- a combination of all the great elements of HoN, LoL, and DemiGod (there was some great things underneth all the crap)
- 3 maps to choose from (5v5, 4v4 & 3v3).
- Functioning Hero selection screen, with exclusive draft mode option for competitive play.
- Great in-game Store interface (I'd like to duplicate the LoL store, since the HoN store was terrible.
- Unique and interesting heros.
-We're going to do away with the Agi/Str/Int archetypes, with the goal of allowing all heros to be viable early, mid and late game.
-There will be no denying of creeps in the traditional method (kill your own creeps are stupid anyway), however tower denies might still exist.
-The idealogy of the "super carry" will try to be dealt with, i.e. the game will be based around team work, and working together in team fights,
and less about one guy farming for 3/4ths of the game, and coming out of the jungle like moses from the mountain and laying waste to an entire team.
-Individual skill will be rewarded, and there will be snowballing, but no where near the level of snowball that DotA has.
Ugh, I'm sorry, but the last thing I want in sc2 are DoTA games. I had enough of it becoming so competitive that they kick for dling. And plus the game system was to sparse and there wasn't much to do.
If anything I think you should take a page from Custom Hero Wars from sc. Now that was a great game. The game was fun and balanced, sure it was annoying when someone left, but you still had fun anyway. I really liked fighting in the arena, buying custom waves, and having a shot at getting the "Game Ender" or whatever it was called depending on the version.
Just my 2 cents though, don't have to listen to me.
Can there be a massive war between 3 sides, and players can be the mercenaries in the war?
Say the goal is for you to make the most money out of your participation, and this means you compete with other mercs.
I'm not sure of using the 3 race as the method, but it could be possible...
The Terran, Protoss, and Zerg found a great X'el Naga Temple, capable of generating a mass amount of resources to the side that captures it, but it also houses powerful guardians to protect it...
Heck, this MIGHT be one of my project, if I am capable of it...
I really don't see the point of trying to create this type of project at this stage of the game, as Blizzard clearly has plans to actually have their own hero system in place in the nearby future.
I neither see the point of trying to clone DotA if all you really can contribute with is a general concept idea. Sure, have a blast at creating it, but it's just a small matter of time before someone outclones it and makes the map unplayed.
As much as people loathe the Aeon/Dota playstyle, there are an equal number that love it in all it's iterations. Why else would the game and it's clones be so popular. So I encourage you to continue with your idea. You really should try to think up some very unique mechanic though that sets it apart from the rest. For example, Dra6oon's idea of 3 factions since it fits well with 3-faction Starcraft. The Galaxy editor would support up to 4v4v4.

@Skandizor: Go
That image is my Background now. It's so confusing.
