You must not re-use previous work (please be honest :) )
Are we allowed to use it from something that we are working on already? I have part of a UI finished for my Heros and Empires remake i'm working on, and would like to submit that if possible.
Im looking forward to see what people will make during this one.
But one thing that struck me was that i acturally missed the news snippet on the front page about this contest and acturally found it hidden here in the Project Workplace sub forum.
Maybe it would be an idea to highligh contests on the front page (not just as a topic but as a widget or something like that) since its one of the things that differenciate this page from any other SC2 map making site (not the fact that you have contests, but the contests themselves).

It just to make sure that each participant have a fair amount of time to compete (8 days). Using something that you has devoted many times on would be like cheating. But if it wasnt released anywhere before, no one would know :P Contest are for fun anyways
Edit: Also a question: what kind of interface should it be ? At least it has to be interactive with unit in the map, not like I can import a nice looking picture of what the UI should be like

As programmer said, the aim of this limitation is to have fairness between the participants. If you believe that you could have made it within the 8 days of the contest, then well go ahead and submit it.

Well, if you just put a good looking image, I'm not sure you will have that much things to show in a video and you will probably not win :)
Here's my submission, a Collapsable Animated Dialog Menu using UI Images, a Button, and some Text Labels [Roughly 5 hours of work, 95% of that was planning, adjusting, and sifting through UI images]->
Please play the map for yourself, the menu looks much much prettier in-game than with the ugly resolution on the youtube video.
(The unit has nothing to do with it, I just found out about his cool ability and thought if more people saw it they might find a very creative use for it :P)

Well, i started it yesterday really, so it shouldn't be a problem :). it's not a full UI, but some dialogs to show all the custom resources i'm adding into the game.
An interface contest really should be judged by a panel rather than a popular vote. Seriously, you can't judge an interface's usability or effectiveness through a youtube video or some pictures; it's got to be tested in-game. And we all know that hardly anyone is going to actually try these out in-game before voting.
I could make something really flashy and fun, but it would be almost useless in-game because instead of being functional and minimalistic, it would be distracting and probably bloated. For an idea of what I mean, SCMapper's entry borders on the bloated/flashy, but is just light enough to consider having in a map.
Anyway, I suggest a judge panel using the equally-weighted criteria of form/layout, function/usefulness, and appearance. If it's a popular vote, appearance will probably be the vast majority of the contest, even if the winning item is useless in most scenarios.
My understanding of this contest is to further the knowledge of what kind of interface elements are possible to create, and as an interface element, it has to look good first hand to the information it might provide because an interface is the front end to the behind the scenes of how that information is maintained.
Unless I misunderstood the objective, it's not the goal to just display/interact with useful raw data , but to show creative ways of doing so (Not just wrapping everything into a generic dialog box with nothing in it). So I don't get where you're coming from because my menu shows an animated dialog which isn't seen very often.
I'm also not sure if you were alluding to my menu being useless in your post, but I have to make the strong argument that it's a menu with no specific objective other then displaying information, which can be used in any number of ways. Although I will agree with you on a panel rather then a popular vote or maybe a cross between the two because there's no way to present each entry fairly (Order of appearance, etc).
I was trying to say that yours is a good entry because it skirts the edge of what should be done while still remaining desirable. You could have added more random crap to it that might have made it look cooler and thus more likely to be voted for, but it would have made it too bloated. I.E. you did a good job as it is now.
I have to say that programmer's map inspires me. That has to be the coolest thing I've seen all year. It impresses me more than the game itself and the campaign. Just wow...
1) it's nowhere near as good as progammer's and
2) I'm using Helral's interface library, and that would just seem like cheating, no matter where i come :/

If you come to mapster often you have probably noticed all the different maps with custom UI. It's time to make it a contest !
What to do?
You have to make a custom interface element. It can be anything you want including action bars, player frame, menu panel ...
What you have to give
Deadlines
You have 8 days to complete this contest.
Reward
The main goal of the contest is to further community development within GalaxyEdit. The rewards can be see as follows:
Wooo, interesting one. Cant wait to see few good UIs here!

First and foremost happy birthday vjeux!?

Good idea. I have plans to reorganize the main page to display more useful stuff, this is something I will consider! Thanks

Very Nice. Galaxy Editor is nice but the UI adjusting in the coordinate system and no own Texturfolder it makes the work around the project the hell.

WOW that looks really sweet

Did I win ???
Sorry for the crappy design for bnet. I just don't have enough resources/time. Might be going for better version of mock-up video after this.
Anyway, here are some UI tricks I used that we can learn from this
- Double clicking recognition (the SC icon)
- Smooth dialog movement (start menu, etc...)
- Fullscreen dialog item image (loading screen)
- How to: Make a fake loading screen (It is possible to make the exact ladder loading screen, I only did a simple one due to time limit)
- How to: Make a list box and the "Show more" Button
- Easy transition between interface

1) No you don't. You used windows XP and claimed you made it >:( 2) SCVs are OP. They should be nerfed :D 3) Holy...
Wow, just wow progammer. At fisrt I seriously thought you had tampered with your desktop xD. Thats amazing.

That's amazing :O
O_O.
