i must admit i deleted all the beta content already because the editor just hates me and most probably will break all my maps on release.. thus my only chance is to make a map in like 24 hours after release.. on top of that, i might want to play campaign so.. argh!! bad timing vjeux!! :P
on another note, im happy we get our minigame contest because its really really more easily approachable than doing custom units with attachment points and generated wapons..

The goal is to make many different contests to cover all the spectrum of the Galaxy Editor and especially new things. For example the spell contest was launched to make great use of the new Data editor and actors. The creature contest was about attachements and the cinematic contest was to promote the new lightning stuff.
Minigame contest is all about gameplay. It is less a technological challenge and focuses on what the editor was made for: making great games!
I really hope that many of you will participate. A minigame can be done in an evening, it does not have to be big to be fun :)
I have my minigame finished, its called Marine Rescue (Minigame Contest) and it takes you through as a medivac saving the marines on Korhal when it was attacked by the confederacy. Hint-The map isn't actually Korhal, but Tarsonis' texture fits with that idea.
Oh, and I'm adding another minigame soon which will be related to a maze. I'll reply with it soon!
I also want to make an even cooler minigame later. In fact! I'll just make minigames until this thing is over.
Just a small tip that will surely save you a lot of work in the future: You can set Triggers to be Initially Off by selecting them on the left and toggling "Initally On". Like that, you don't need to switch them all off in your initialisation trigger. :)

But still id love to see the contest extended for maybe 3 days so the maps that are generated now may be unbugged/re-released as soon as the game launches (im sure blizz will add stuff to the editor/the game that breaks these minigame maps and then noone can learn because the maps are no longer open-able with version 1.0)
I've just finished my new minigame called The Space Maze which is available as multiplayer game. However it's not as fun without more ppl. You pick a unit, Probe, Zergling, or Zealot and you kind of race to the finish line. The Probe can build things to block paths, Zealot fights a lot better than other units, and Zergling runs WAY faster. It should be Edited and it doesn't work in multiplayer, but it's got some good ideas. Enjoy!
My next minigame will be 1 of THE best cuz it's a map where you are a gang of guys tryin to live a life in a vehicle. Your vespene gas is your vehicle's gasoline (Get it?) and your minerals are your parts. You can hire more SCVs (Engineers) to repair your vehicle or you can hire Marines (Soldiers) to load up in your vehicle to help fight other players. You can attack other ppl's cars (Hellions) to gain extra minerals, however, you also need to stay at your mining geyser to gather more gas for your cars cuz you lose 1 gas every 5 seconds, cuz your car uses gas (Get It?), and your goal is to gain 1000 minerals. You can also attack Hostile cars in the center. It may be difficult tho cuz the map is 64 64, so it's a small map. I'll work on it and post it up soon!
I'm starting to think that it doesn't look like a minigame, but it is small and it could count as like a bonus level.

I've been wanting to do this since the Editor came out and the Minigame Contest gave me the chance to do it. I won't say exactly what it is yet, but I'm just going to link in four screenshots. The video and the map should be ready by tomorrow hopefully.
I'm quite impressed with what the editor allows you to do; and only in the span of a day.
I've now finished my AWESOME new minigame called Prologue of Armaggedon where you are in the age after the Armageddon (I had a misspell when saving it) and you kill other cars to gain resources. Minerals is dollars, or cash, and vespene gas is your gasoline remaining. You run out of gas overtime. If you run out of gas, you lose, but if you manage to get 1000 minerals, you win!!! You can use your minerals to buy new cars so you can have more than just 10 guys, and you can buy workers to repair and gather resources, or you can buy marines to fight 4 you. Hint-Workers drop off their resources at your cars, so if your car is super close to a geyser, you only need 1 scv! Check it out and enjoy!

I decided to start getting to work and it looks great! Although it is similar to the original, there are many changes. 1st, it's like a TD game except that you have a Hero, Phoenix, that levels up so you can defeat the space invaders faster. 2nd, I made it so you have complete control of your phoenix, and your bullets are shot individually. 1st you fight terran forces, then you fight zerg, and finally, protoss. I called it!

I'm trying to make this complicated unit spawner for my new space invaders related defense minigame. I started out trying to make it all out of triggers, but that was just way too complicated. I started to get frustrated so I remembered Beider's complicated spawner tutorial and almost ended up creating an exact copy, except that I had to watch the whole video instead of taking his entire spawner, because it's quite a different level. Anyway, I am stuck cuz 4 some reason I made a mistake and it always skips all the waves and goes right to the victory text message. If Beider could help that would be amazing, but others would do just fine. I still can't continue on to changing all the names of the units, I can't start making more difficult waves, I can't make it more like Space invaders either until somebody helps me!!! Here's the file, but idk if anybody can help cuz I checked almost everything and they all seem to match what they should look like so could anybody explain a bit on what I did wrong.
And if I end up finishing this level, then I thank whoever helped me finish and Beider of course for his tutorial.
Oh, and don't count this as an entry quite yet, cuz there's a lot to change.
I decided to take a break from that complicated spawner in space invaders and created a more simpler spawner in a new level called castle defense where you have to simply build towers to defend and you can upgrade them. I didn't work THAT hard on this level, so it's not as impressive as some other defense levels may be, but I decided that I would actually post it as a map and make better versions.
