There really isn't a set "goal" with this map other than to fit as many technical ideas along with some cool spells into one map as I can. Once I feel like I've learned all the stuff on the surface I might dig into my own legitimate map. For now though, you'll be able to learn the basics of smooth WASD movement, 3rd person camera controls, how persistent dialog buttons work and the basics of creating a custom ability. If you have something in particular you'd like to see be in version 2, let me know.
Version 1 of the SC2 Tech Demo includes:
- Smooth WASD Movement
- Togglable 3rd Person / RTS Camera Perspectives
- Custom Offensive Ability "Burst Strike" with different camera perspectives
- Interactive Dialog Panels controlling cameras and basic weapon damage.
- "Underground" Demo
Some of what's coming in V2:
- Leaderboards
- Heroes and Inventory
- More custom abilities
Just finished clearing out all the bugs on my Tech Demo map and after posting it around a bit I had a few requests to toss it up on Youtube so those of you who don't have the BETA (Can't believe people still don't have it!) can view it. Anyway, here it is.
Tried it out. Unless I did something wrong, "S" did not go back, just jittered in place. I did not have 3rd person camera controls. The camera moved based off the player, but not my mouse input.
<<quote>>In the second version of my Tech Demo I've added a few more abilities and some more RPG-esque functionality ala Heroes/Inventory/Items. There currently isn't a decent Item "Treasure" type model so I've settled for a small version of the Robo Bay. Also with the Ether Spike the lack of Terrain Deformation options stops the ability from looking the best it can.
Version 2 of the SC2 Tech Demo includes:
- Basic Hero and Inventory System
- Leaderboard with a "filling" Progress Bar
- Jumping (Spacebar)
- Custom Hero Ability: "Stratosphere"
- Custom Hero Ability: "Sanctum"
- Custom Hero Ability: "Ether Spike"
And everything from V1 with some improvements:
- Smooth WASD Movement
- Togglable 3rd Person / RTS Camera Perspectives
- Custom Offensive Ability "Burst Strike" with different camera perspectives
- Interactive Dialog Panels controlling cameras and basic weapon damage.
- "Underground" Demo
Some of what's coming in V3:
- Strafing & Camera control for 3rd Person View
- A more roubust Hero and Inventory System
- More Items
- More custom abilities
AMAZING. You rule.
I have one question: May I use your mechanics in my maps? I will give credit.
And I would like to see this in ver 4: An splash Xp system. Now, when my hero kills a unit only the hero gains Xp. I want all the heroes (not only the killer to gain XP)

very very cool demo! can't wait to check this out in the editor
thanks ~ :}
Good idea! Can't wait to see a more advanced released.
Hmm, I get an error when I try to load it up into the editor
"Unable to load file (Core: file not found): ComponentList.SC2Components"
EDIT: Downloaded again, and now it works. Not sure what happened there
That ability you created is awesome. Great job.
Cool thanks.

Strafing?
@PermaG: Go
S does a 180, not backwards. Strafing and the like will be added later.
Anyway,
Working out a few more kinks on Tech Demo 2, but here's a preview of the abilities:
Awesome stuff man - I plan on learning what you've done in order to help with my full on mod - especially the "going under ground" parts.
@helixdnb: Go
Just finished Version 2.

How did you do that underground thing, I'm trying to make something that you are inside a building. But I can't figure out how.
nice work !! some attacks remind me games like street fighter
any new progress on your map man? those custom abilities you made were AWESOME. some pretty skillful scripting.
Can you pls reupload the map as the download link is broken for the Galaxy Editor Tech Demo Version 2 :( ?? Or does anyone else have the file?
@Zer0skiller: Go
I'm gonna say 4 and a half years later the map is gone...
