very small, but possibly powerful. You now have the ability to make units float over water. This is the map file, I have changed only 2 things, I made a mover called Hover and I changed the MULE to have Hover as it's mover. The map is just to show how it works.
Just checked it out. Its a little glich in combination with cliffs.
The Mule cant climb the cliff, but he walks or let me say "hovers" up to about 80% and just chills there :) And no, he is not gaining Vision of the Cliff.
Yea, it is a problem that when the unit gets to a cliff it kind of gains in height, but it won't go up the cliff, unless there is a ramp and as such still behaves like a ground unit for all intents and purposes. Until Blizz make a proper hover effect, which I thought the Hover flag in unit would be linked to, this is about as best you get. I would think it'd be ok for boats though. The other issue is that if the water covers a ramp the unit will sink just link every other ground unit.
Did anyone come up with a solution to the above problem? Is there perhaps a way to calculate the difference in height between a standard level and a point on the terrain, and then dynamically change the unit's height to be this difference?

Sounds neat
Sweet I remember the thread where you were talking about methods of making this effect, glad to see it worked out for you :)

You could paint pathing blocking on the cliffs to stop that but that would also block reaper-like units. (painting pathing = H)
Hmm Perhaps with a new Pathing element called No Hover ?
Well that goes ways beyond my editor skills :)

See this is what this concept is taking advantage of: flyers don't really adjust their height unless they run over a cliff :)

Couldnt you make a Custom Reaper Jumper ability/mover and use that when your "Hover" Units get over cliff walls?
I'm not sure I follow, could you elaborate?
