Most of the work was actually done by the blue flame image that he conveniently gave.
A big reason I encourage requesters to include a resource sample.
@Anyone
I hope that people try not to take offense or feel bad when your work is critiqued. Always better to learn from it, and become even better. If it was up to me, none of my work has ever been finished, there's always more things i could've done to make it better. But it's just not feasible to work on a single project for too long. So if i screw up somewhere, i want people to catch it and let me know. I'll see to fixing it, if i see that its worth the effort to fix.
Edit: ignore bottom images, they're just preview images for some of the icons people made that lacked previews.
@onisagi:
i will start making my icons with that black bg. btw, don't put the psistorms on the front page. they're just there as a result of my experimentation.
also, because of our superfluidity of artists, you should open up another forum for something like a weekly challenge, like the one that programmer has for trigger editing. just a suggeestion
good idea. xD That would definitely generate a lot more textures.
I think the problem is that it doesn't actually pertain to working with the galaxy editor like all the other weekly exercises: data, terraining, triggering.
not sure if "texturing" can be categorized as a standard skill for someone making a SC2 map, unless there was a texture editor inside GE.
Wow! Your blue Infernal Preigniters look awesome! I will use it. Thanks onisagi and draconis. Also, thanks for referring me to your post. I'll check it out.
(1) The Bone Pincers icon to be mirrored (so that the pincers are facing the left instead of the right).
(2) The Psionic Shockwave icon to be rotated 90 degrees clockwise (so the lightning bolt moves from left to right).
I tried installing the plug-ins so I could do this myself in Photoshop, but unfortunately I still wasn't able to save a picture as a dds file. I would be mighty grateful to the person who can help me.
Hi guys. I'd like to request a modification of an icon. I'd like for the Punisher Grenades icon be flipped upside down so that the bullet is pointing to the top left.
@Marikh7:
three things...
1 do you want it colored?
2 it looks a little weird, is that ok or do you want me to do something about that?
3 how do you add previews, is it just the image embedded into the text?
here it is uncolored, weird, and w/o a preview...
It's great! I prefer it uncolored because it appears very small in my map due to my heroes having a level bar. It does look a bit weird... maybe it's 'cause the shadows don't make sense now that it's been flipped. But it's better than what I had before. Thanks a bunch, jaxter. I'll credit you on this too. Plus, I liked the brown pincers a lot. Yes, I did just embed images in the text. I don't know how to do previews either. I think onisagi knows, though.
@Marikh7:
its nice that you credit people, most people dont, it makes me feel good. what is this map that ur making that has brown pincers, mirrored concussive grenades and napalm burninators?
I think it's nice that people like yourself volunteer to make assets for people's games. I wish more people would give credit to creators. It's a great way to say thank you.
My map's called Koprulu Mercs. Here's a link to the project page. It's a mutiplayer cooperative game inspired by Warcraft 3 and "The Mercenaries" mode in the Resident Evil series. Each player controls one hero and races around the map looking for hourglasses to extend time and enemies to kill.
The Brown Pincers are for the Blade Guardian's weapon. The Blade Guardian is one of the Befouler's summons (the Befouler is one of the 8 starting heroes). The Blade Guardian is a Brutalisk that's a bit smaller than an Ultralisk. He's kind of like the Befouler's golem (if you played Diablo 2). He protects the relatively weak Befouler.
The Napalm Burninator icon's for the Warbot's Napalm Burninators ability and weapon. For his ultimate ability, Rory Swann can summon the Warbot. The Warbot can equip 3 different weapons. One of them is the Napalm Burninators.
The Concussive Grenades icon is for Rory's weapon, which is a Quad K12 "Punisher" Grenade Launcher.
If you're interested, I'm actually looking to recruit a Terrainer/Level Designer to design the first level, a Video Editor to create trailers and a web designer to create a website or website assets.
this game sounds like it will be amazing, and i would love to beta test and help with level design, but im not that great... at either.... or web design/ trailer & video stuff....

For preview images, i just export a PNG/JPG of the icon and upload it just like i upload the DDS files. For displayable images, the forum automatically displays it on the bottom instead of just showing a download link.
@Marikh7: Go
I'm not into doing long term projects, but I can help you with designing a website. It shouldn't take me too long. I can only do HTML, javascript, and CSS; i'm not too PHP friendly, so I won't try to design a forum or anything.
Oh! I must have been running the 64 bit version of CS5. I read your directions, and they seemed quite clear. I'll try again tomorrow. If it still doesn't work, I'll say something.
Awesome! I'll PM you some details about the website.
@onisagi: I was trying to achieve the effects by using Colorise and Red-Eye Reduction. I think it should've been possible to obtain a more flame-like result, but it probably would've been very time-consuming ;p
Art requests seems to be dwindling to none recently...
I should have several requests of my own, soon...
@onisagi: Now that really looks more like a blue flame unlike mine :p . And true, color changes requests are among the easiest to do.

(3) Not necessary but would be cool: coloring the Bone Pincers brown. Here's a good shade of brown:

Awesome. Thanks again, jaxter!

Here's a preview:

About the plugins for photoshop, did you see my directions on the first post? Make sure you're running 32bit version of Photoshop.
Like Photoshop CS5 comes with 32 and 64bit executables, and you need run the 32bit one instead for DDS plugin to work.
Do i need to write up a more detailed explanations on the install process?

I need the D-8 Charge icon colored like its actual model (There wasn't a colored version of it originally). Multi-colored stuff are troublesome :p
