Hello everyone! I'm Creation and I've been playing with Blizzard editors since I was about 13 years old. I'm 25 years old now and I have still never released a map over the internet, but that is about to change.
'Power Overwhelming: Galactic Gladiators' is a team based Active Time Battle system (ATB) where you progress through 50 boss fights while leveling up your fighter of choice. It is a hybrid system combining the ingenius elements of Final Fantasy 7, Chrono trigger, Japanese Anime, and Stacraft II. In this game you will not only be able to select from over 100 different abilities, but when your limit combo bar is full (Much like in Final Fantasy 7), you will be able to combine powers with another player on your team for a flashy cooperative attack (Much like in Chrono Trigger).
Upon first release you will be able to choose from one of four unique gladiators, each with a different role: A Damage Dealer, a Tank, a Buffer/Debuffer, and a Healer. The Gladiators are aliens from the planet Vega and have chosen to participate in a Galactic Tournament to see who the most powerful fighters are in the Galaxy. In this tournament teams are consisted of 1 to 8 fighters, so some fights will be much bigger than others... and some fights you will fight a single boss with extraordinary power. After the first ten stages, a significant amount of thought will be required to overcome each battle, as enemies will only be thwarted by their weaknesses, which you, as a team must figure out.
Shawn and I are both hoping that on release (about two months from now), you will be able to save and load character data, so you will be able to constantly progress the strength of your gladiators, and attain new abilities.
Progress: So far I have about 30 abilities made out of 100. Shawn is working on the boss fights, but we could use help to speed up the process. If you are interested in creating boss fights for this game, please contact me either in the IRC, or you can email me: [email protected]
OR you can simply respond here and I will get back to you. As a Boss creator you will have complete creative control over the boss fights you induct into the game, and you will work with Shawn|rawr.
Requirements to join the team:
- Proficiency with Camera Angles
- Proficiency with Actor Messages
- Proficiency with Triggers
Anyways I hope you guys enjoy the video, we are working hard to make this game and will not release it until it is of high quality.
The video was really impressive. The spell animations, camera work and the fact that it is also multiplayer is really awesome. Also the fact that you have been using blizzard editors for 12 years is pretty amazing.
If this is multiplayer, I will be in love with the game...Will it be a campaign kind of thing or just a multiplayer "kill the other team"....And will the characters persistently level up?

Feel free to Send me a PM if you have any questions/concerns!
I thought this was really cool and wanted 2 play it when it comes out but I know that my crap computer would melt on this map I really love the animations for the attacks keep up the good work man =D
Question: Is there normal fights too? Or all just boss based?
The current idea is that every battle will be a boss fight. This will allow us to give a lot of very unique challenges to the player. This map always seem to be changing and we have a lot of great ideas imo.

This is in fact a 4-player game atm, but it will also be set up so that one player can solo and control all 4 characters. Right now we want to have it be a 4 player vs AI type of map with the ultimate goal of having a high level character and beating all of the boss battles to win. We hope this will be a very enjoyable experience and we are working hard to bring that to the table.

My computer isn't actually all that great and this map runs very smooth even on battle.net. I really doubt that computers will lag on this one unlike many TD's and Wars games where there is a lot of animations and units on the field. Some animations may cause slight lag but I don't expect it to be an issue.
i think the uberlisk would be a epic boss, however,
you can make your own units so a boss made up of several units giving several seperate attacks might be a even better idea!
i think stone zealot or omegalisk with several spine crawler, acting as difference induvidual units.
This looks more like Chrono Trigger than FF. Then again they're basically the same, except I think Chrono Trigger offered more challenge. I just remember from Chrono Trigger loving how the characters wouldn't be grouped up together. I don't know why but that made the game so much more fun then seeing a melee character run up slash and walk back to where he was compared to running up and slashing and then separating from the group. Also added the element of the AoE spells and attacks not being able to hit if you could move your characters away from each other.
We're open to suggestions here since you guys are the fans who will be playing. I want the community to shape the outcome of this map. Although I wont be able to induct all the elements of Chrono trigger, I did manage to get the cross combo system working today, so combined attacks WILL be featured in this map. Combined attacks will be executed off of Final Fantasy 7's limit break system.
With 50 bosses you can expect to see a lot of unique things come from this map. I talked to Vulfe today and he will be joining the team in making boss fights. Every fight will have some type of boss unit in it, and sometimes the boss(es) will be accompanied by weak cronies. Sometimes you will face multiple bosses at the same time. There will even be a level where you have to fight yourself. The battles will be wide ranging and challenging.
I wouldn't worry too much about having a bad comp. It runs very smoothly, but just in case I will add a clipping feature to the game that will eliminate the outer space if necessary to improve game performance.
As far as the music goes it will most likely be changed.. I can see how the Lost Viking boss music will get annoying to some people.
You should have said you were recording this, I would have been less of a derp in chat =P I also would have made sure enter got recognized every time, so as to not accidentally trip those test triggers like I did.
But yeah, it's actually a pretty fun turn based like system. I'll be honest, I haven't found turn based systems all that appealing for a while, but I thoroughly enjoyed testing this the other night, and half of the menu items weren't even available! So I'm sure once this is finished it will be amazing.
Thanks Orc.. comments like this encourage me to press on hard.
Progress Update: 9/30/2010
- 3 status effects added into play: Poison, Stop, Slow.
- Completed combo attack 'Grand Fusion' between DPS and TANK.
- Combo menu system added to user interface.

i ain't good at the editor.
Not bad, but we have our own ideas that I think are a little more impressive than simply an uberlisk that I think is kinda overrated anyhow. Stone Zealot is actually one of the heroes so I won't be using him as a boss. ;)
I am excited to now be working with Vulfe. It will be fun.
MOVE feature added to main menu, allowing players to reposition their characters on the battlefield - by request. Player Characters will also now randomly move to different locations on the battlefield after certain attacks.

@Creation25: Go
Looks cool! I mean... LOOKS COOL!
Looks good… I would say some things look a bit choppy, but all of your big spells look awesome.
I really enjoyed that.
Keep up the awesome work!
Question: Is there normal fights too? Or all just boss based?
Damn it.. i have been working on a similar map. Right down to the chrono trigger elements.
Looks good though. The fight looks really intense with all the camera work.
Battle seems really awsome etc, just very horrible music imo:p

Looks good. But I still have turn-based on the list of things I hate :P
@Gorandor: Go
"Real-Time" is also turn-based, just with one turn per game loop (many turns per second).
