Also, just a guess but I think Dark would like Mafia :P - Anyway I gotta get back to my popcorn, please continue argument :D
@CrazyTwigman:
i did not make this tread to be an Argument. i made this thread to find out what people like and what games they play.... such as what games do you play on starcraft2? what makes them good in YOUR opinion.

Ya I'm hoping for the best not counting my chickens. 1.5 beta was looking so hopeful and but i found the actually release to be lacking in comparsion. Granted I'll probably be grab hots b/c i've only ever like rts and sc is the best in that area but i've already lost quite a bit of respect for blizzard.

Wow nice double posting. Reposting your original post after you've wasted an entire thread to figure out it was posted wrong for the answer you wanted is such a smart thing. Clearly your incapable of thinking advanced enough so ill simplify it for you. If you wanted a different response then you don't go posting the exact same think expecting a different response; that the exact definition of being clinically insane. You wanted to know why people like the play the same game over and over, then the proper question is to ask how do you make replayability in a game successful. As a rule in netiquette if you don't quite get the answer you were looking for you don't bash everyone, rinse and repeat; you need to apologize for the miscommunication and rephrase entirely. If you can't grasp something that basically your not going to understand any indepth answer anyways. Seems like this will just end up being another close thread; seriously when are you going to clue in?
Well tbh, I agree with what most people say, I believe its hard to make a game aimed at all of the custom game players. Also, I like games that are different every game, that provide a new challenge and element of fun almost every game. However, most of the population loves TD's etc, which I dislike for the reason above. So. yeah, good luck!
Minigame maps might be the closest thing as you can put several entirely different games together, but again that brings up problems.
I like simple arcade games ie sentry scramble, photon cycles, etc. I've always considered the single player to be the main attraction but i wanted small, quick, and fun games the use a breaks between intense matches; i don't want complex games that work solo or require me to refocus my strategy away from ladder.
You opened the thread with very delusional and strong propositions, backed up by a quote that is generally used in a completely different context (as in "Nothing is impossible for you as a person, as long as it was done before by a different human being or is at least hypothetically realistic"). Your opening post doesn't state well that you want the personal opinions of us about games either. Hell, you start it off with an unrealistic goal, don't be upset that it pisses people off (because you imply that everybody who published more or less successful maps is doing it wrong and has the wrong "recipe" for their map design. That is not necessarily what you wanted to say, but it is what you imply because of who the readers here are and who is part of this forum).
Now, don't be surprised if no one answers your really broad and universal question about what type of games we like. That information doesn't help you at all to create successful games/maps, because everyone likes different things in games and the postings you get here are irrelevant because they are even in a best case scenario a really small sample. Also the question is so generic that most people wouldn't even know how to answer that in less than 10-20 sentences, because it is almost impossible for everyone who plays a lot of games or thinks a lot about specific game mechanics and what they like/don't like about them.
If you want to know what types of maps are successful just look into the most played maps. If you have an idea that you think will be really popular but hasn't been done yet just create it and then you'll see how much it will appeal to the audience. No one will be able to answer how successful something will be before it was published. Because there is no formula for that. You could have a really complex and polished cross-genre map with tons of good ideas and potentially interesting gameplay that doesn't work at all in practice because of design flaws and because it is just no fun. Or you have something like Nexus Wars that has very weird game design in theory but apparently works well in practice and appeals to a lot of people.
I know that you didn't want arguments in this thread, but this thread went into the stupid direction anyway so I don't care. :)
@hobbidude:proper question is to ask how do you make replayability in a game successful
@Bommes:Hell, you start it off with an unrealistic goal/because you imply that everybody who published more or less successful maps is doing it wrong and has the wrong "recipe" for their map design. If you want to know what types of maps are successful just look into the most played maps.
I did not ask for ANY of this.. so congrats on talking about something im not even asking..........
Here is the goal: Create a game that can appeal to every type of 'custom game' player.
There are several different types of custom games people play. Alot of people play the same game several times in a day because they are fans of it. I have seen people play the same game up to 50-100 times in a row. I do not want responds as to what games are BAD or about games you dont/will not play..
tell me about the games "you" find awesome and play constantly. about how they are better than the rest and this is why you play the map.
A quote comes to mind "nothing is impossible if you set your mind to it"
Thank you.
What are you talking about then? From what I understand you want to create a game that can appeal to every type of custom game player. And that is linked to being successful apparently, because most custom game players play the popular maps (thats what the term "popular" means).
Also, please don't change quotes and use the quote feature, your postings are really hard to read. And I never said that you asked about any of that, I thought you MIGHT want to know about something like that because from my point of view the whole thread is really vague. And it is not necessary to repost your opening posting 3 or 4 times.

I believe all computers have a scroll function, so I doubt you have to repost your OP.
Whoa, why so hostile, OP? Had a bad day?
You know, the way you asked your question has issues, which good folks tried to explain to you. But instead of learning you shut down all the help they were giving you.
I could tell you why I play the games I play, but it would take some time and effort on my side if I wanted to go deeper and explain what makes them so attractive to me. But here you are, acting so strange towards us, almost as if purposely trying to annoy everyone. Makes it really hard to believe that the time spent generating my thoughts won't be completely wasted. Sorry, but it's not a way to go.
*SIGH*
