I was taking a shower and enjoying humming to myself when it hit me. Please stick with the post here, this might get a bit long.....
Ok, so many of you probably have seen ZHRPG before, this isn't like that. In the Wings of Liberty campaign, Raynor talks about literally hunting zerg for bounties. What I was thinking, was to make a hunting map with up to 6 players on a 256/256 map.
Terrain:
If any of you have played hunting games before, ones such as Cabelas Deer Hunter, you will at least in part understand the map. For those of you who have not, picture Alaska minus the snow. Mountains, huge forrests, lakes, rivers, basically your typical woodsman dream.
There would also be a cool feature I also thought of, randomized terrain. Every time the game loads, the forrests are in different spots, or the mountains are shaped differently. Things like this would make the map extremely replayable and unique.
Gameplay:
In a typical hunting game there are features like GPS, ATVs to get around faster and hunting blinds, scents and clothing all designed to reduce detection. There is also some form of randomized game, animals that are never the exact same size or in the same place. There should be a way to track their positions as well. Their excriment and footprints, blood stains and territorial markings would give clues to their locations. There would also be a shooting range to test your weapons.
Also windspeed and direction would change acuracy as well. It's the little details like this that really make a map amazing.
Now for the SC2 part:
All of these features can be in some way applied to Starcraft 2. The ATVs could be vulture bikes or hellions. GPS could be the minimap that only comes up when you press a button. The game could be, well, Zerg units of course!
Zergling - these seemingly harmless creatures don't bring in much bounty, but when provoked, attack at will
Roach - these nasty creatures can hide underground when attacked, and should be taken out from a distance
hydralisk - a favorite among big game hunters, angry all the time and dangerous, just the way real men like it
baneling - these critters don't help you as they explode on impact, so you can't sell their remains. If you find one however, take it out from a distance or RUN
ultralisk - these creatures have been called stupid and dumb time and time again, but watch out, their kaiser blades can come after you like an angry NATZI (kaiser = German word, get it? lol)
mutalisks - the birds of SC2 hunter, fast and hard to hit
your zerg hunt idea sounds good. i havent played zhrpg so im not sure how close yours follows is idea, but yours also sounds like it can make a nice rpg out of it...but then again your only offered a few units from zerg range :P feels limited to me.
haha i'm probably thinking way too much off topic :P
but you should try your idea.
what type of map? rpg?????? doesnt sound like a td, if it was a rpg sounds like a one off rpg kind of map
:S
It would be in an open world and you could save progress and records, I guess RPG is a decent way to describe it, but it's not really a role playing game. ZHRPG is an RPG with a storyline to it. The name was similar, so just wanted to confirm.
This is actually similar to what my original idea for ZHRPG was, haha. It sort of derailed as development went on and I liked where it ended up though.
I suppose that could be a way of saying: I like the concept :P

curroptor - fairly slow, and can't hurt you, easy pickings right?
infestor - the nastiest thing around. It shoots infested terrans at you that are forced to attack against their will, fun right?
brood lord - shoots broodlings at you from long range, aww crap!
Game modes:
king of zerg - you have 20 minutes to bag the biggest or most game!
sandbox - compete? what is this compete? I just wanna have fun with my buds!
single player - feel like practicing or beating your own record? No problem, load it up without anyone else!
I hope I was detailed enough. Some people can get a bit upset when you're not open with them.

I added a few more units to the list as well.

Hey, it's the master himself :) Do you have a team or is it all you?
Started as just me. Now I have three people assisting me with various tasks for upcoming maps.
