The title states my request, so let's get on with it.
I want my map to have a ranking/achievements system, but I unfortunately I have a very limited knowledge of the trigger editor.
So for the ranking system, I want the players to advance or fall through ranks as they win or lose games against other players.
I can provide the rank icons as soon as somebody accepts this task.
So I want a rank system where when players are faced against equal or similar ranks, if the lose, their rank goes down, if they win, rank goes up.
If the player is below the opponents rank(Say about at least 1 tier(4 ranks) below) if they lose, their rank stays the same, as for the higher ranked opponent, if he losses, he loses even more rank than if it were equal or similar.
When a highly ranked opponent wins versus a lower ranked opponent, he gains nothing from winning.(Rank will of course decrease if he/she leaves, to discourage leaving because their opponent is low ranked)
I will want the players to be able to view each others stats and achievements.
I will of course want the achievement system to be made as well, but making the achievements themselves can be left to me, trusting the achievement system to be simple and made well enough for me to use.
If you have any questions, just ask.

.....?.......What??? I am afraid what you said has little to no relevance to me. I requested a custom trigger based StarCraft 2 ranking/achievements library I could use for my SC2 custom map, not a link to a wiki page talking about how you determine the skill level of chess players. Sorry to be so frank, but what you said is just useless to me and what I want for my map. I think I very well stated what I expect to feature should what I requested ever be made.

Rank systems in SC2 are notorious for having problems. Specifically there is no way to stop people from obtaining a 100% win rate simply by rolling back the bank if they lose and keeping it if they win. As such one can think of ranking points as not being conservative (base/number who played map ever) or accurately reflecting a player's abilities. If a player changes client computers or suffers data loss he can also lose all his rank and this case is completely unintentional.
Competitive games like SC2 melee or Heroes of the Storm get around this problem by storing rank on their secure servers rather than on the clients. This way they cannot be tampered with. However this is currently not possible in SC2 for Arcade maps. As such any ranking system is only a very rough approximation of player skill and so cannot be used to compare player skill.
Yep. Sadly that's the truth. You can get around it by encouraging players to not care about their rating, but still using it for various effects. Star Battle does an excellent job of this. It uses a true elo ranking but it's only really used for balancing teams in certain game modes.
Very good points you guys have brought up, but regardless, I do still want it done. Cheaters will gain nothing but looks, and if they have to go through abit of trouble(whatever amount it might be) to get there stats changed, they are wasting their time and not improving skill. Of course I will want to have whatever precautions whoever makes this feels he/she can be made to be made.
