I am a map maker and I am ready to start a new map.
The map will have multi-player campaign.
As of now, the only thing I need help with is the story. This campaign will have at least 4 or 5 missions.
Let me start off:
Mission 1
Setting: Earth - Training ground for amateur marines
Year: (I still don't know)
To stop Terran reinforcements a Zerg swarm attacks this training ground along with the rest of the earth. Most of the people die except for some generals (exact number will be deduced later, these generals will be the players, so if we have 5 generals then we will have up to 5 players that are playing.) These generals fall unconscious during the attack (and the Zerg think they die).
After 34 Hours:
The generals wake up (Please note that: The generals will have special abilities during game play). They get out of the building and realize that there is no one left. Here the players will be told to go to certain spot on the map (that part of the map will have a small base with abandoned structures, once the generals arrive there, the structures will be activated). The structures will allow the players to train and upgrade units. (You get minerals by killing Zerg units) (This is not melee game play)
The Zerg eventually know about this, and they respond by sending random waves at the base. The generals call for an Evac from another planet, but it will take time for it to arrive (for now it will be 25 minutes game time). And this mission will continue on for 25 minutes, you lose if your general dies and you win if you survive the 25 minutes.
Mission 2
The generals are in a plane and are leaving earth. But unfortunately, the plane runs out of fuel and they are forced to land (they will be still on earth). The players regain control of the generals and their mission will be to get fuel. You guys continue from here.....
Just a couple of thins to note:
In the beginning, there will be a vote screen with all the missions, the players will vote for which mission to play.
Generals will have special abilities but cannot be leveled up (i.e they don't have any of the experience stuff)
Cinematics will be a hard thing to do for me, so I might ask help for that.
I will not pick everyone's ideas, but will pick some, these people whom I will pick shall be put in the credits.
I might abandon this map any day, and it might never be published (I am not saying I will, but anything might occur, for example: I might lose some of the work I have been doing due to some problem in the computer/editor). This is just a possibility and I hope it will never occur.
As of now I will be working on Terrain.
The main objective has to be that the generals have to save the earth. (So in the last mission, the earth has to be saved)

Never give up on a map, is the first rule of map makers: You can just save your map on the cloud (Mediafire, e.g.) or in a pendrive, just for not loosing it (this is what I do when I leave the editor). An idea for the first mission would be to reduce the total time to 15 minutes more or less (I would stop playing if I had to stay for so long time). And for the seconds mission (some kind of the first mission): the generals arrive at the petrol station and they haveto collect the fuel while killing waves of annoyed Zerg. I'm doing a single player campaign so any help you need just PM (curren thread here: The Emergence of the Swarm) Hope to have helped you.

In my experience, characters is key. Their motivations, desires and goals drive the story, and without them, it stops.
You have outlined a very basic story, one that is easy to write but which might run out of steam because the morals are so black and white. How about you introduce some kind of human drama? Maybe there are conflicting ideas on how to fight the Zerg? Maybe some of them are based on petty grudges?
I can lend you some ideas here: The Emergence of the Swarm. It's the main post of my started single player Zerg campaign. By now only posting about terrain, but I expect to "upgrade" it over time.
Thats really interesting, I have to say that I am not the best story writer, but I will try my best, I do have some ideas, I just have to combine them to one story.

I was thinking about this, and I don't know if you read my whole post, but this will be a MULTI-PLAYER campaign, therefore I should be focusing on the Gameplay more than the story. And the other problem is that every character will be a real player, I can undo this and make maybe 4 of the charcters players and one of them a computer, in which he betrays his Human friends and he goes on joins the zerg. As of now, I am inclined to say that having every character as a human will limit the story line, so I believe I must do what I said above (make one player controlled by the computer). This is gonna be complicated, because I only have a liitle more than 1 year experience with the editor.
Hey guys, I decided to restart a map with a whole new story line, this campaign will be single player, rather than multi-player, as of now I will be working on Terrain, I still did not think of a story but will eventaully think of one. Also EivindL, I have a stuipid question, but I was looking at the images for your campaign map, and I saw the subtitles under the portrait, I was looking for the trigger responsible for showing these subtitles for sometime, but couldnt find it, can you just tell me what trigger was used to make them. Thanks
It's just a Send Transsmission trigger. It's what I use to make the transmission for my map. In addition you can make that Transmission trigger to play a unit sound (as done in the campaign).

These are some really nice ideas. Thanks
I think I am fine for now, I will ask questions if I need any help on anything. Thanks anyways.
No one can help me out for the story? Please I need some help with that, and you will be in the credits :D.

Where do you need help: makingthe main story?
Let me think about hat and I'll probably give you some ideas.

That's OK.

When this becomes the first custom-made campaign to win an Oscar, you're going to eat your "OK".
@EivindL: Go
I do not follow you XD, that "OK" was as an approval, but...

Lol nice said bro.

Think of a non-manichean story boy. Starcraft II WoL and HoTS are just so focused on one point of view..
Thanks for your help. Will give an update in some time.
I am sorry, but what is this?
