I'm looking to customize my Starcraft 2 map a bit. I tried to implement ideas I wanted in the past but I find the editor MUCH more complex than the SC1 version.
The map I have is like the old-school Ultra BGH map that has square bases in each corner. Very large with lots of minerals and gas. I completed the terrain and the minerals but I was hoping to have the space between bases be unwalkable, kind of like water was in SC1. Right now I have made it black and put icons of no passing but it doesnt work well, especially with Zerg creep that simply trickles out and makes it look like you can walk through it. I was also hoping to have it look like space, i've seen areas where you can see a planet in the background and that's pretty awesome!
The other thing I wanted to implement was all the old units. Goliath, Lurker, Wraith, etc. I wanted to make it so you have to build them and have the appropriate buildings just like in starcraft 1. I'd prefer a Hydralisk morphs into a lurker for example.
Those are the big ones. I also wanted to have a base established for 3 AI so they are challenging but that's not essential and I might be able to do that myself. My family and I prefer to make it very difficult to break an AI base and the way they are coded they just build like crap, haha!
Please send me an email at [email protected] and we can go over any details.
As far as the terrain goes, it depends on what tileset you're using. Braxis Alpha, for example, is a tileset where, if you lower the terrain, it shows space like you mentioned.
For implementing old units, there is a mod called StarBow that already does that fairly effectively. Not sure if that has AI programmed into it, though. I think you can apply StarBow to your map by adding it as a dependency.
The things that you're looking for are fairly basic. Take a look at some of the tutorials around this site to see if they can help you out. And, of course, post questions to one of the development forums. You'll typically get an answer within a day or two depending on how complicated your question is.
Also, you might want to edit out your email address and have people PM you here instead. Security and all that. Because while the government most assuredly already knows more about you than you do, everyone else doesn't need that information. ;)
