Hello guys i just joined the community.I have a map idea it's like a melee map with standard unit control but it has champions a lot of new custom units with abilitys it has 94 lvls(this is in the beta map i will increase the lvls a lot even tho u will need a lot of time to get that many lvls on ur champion) so basicly this is the most basic way to say it also the champions will like own their own race i mean with is Jim,Horner & Swann will have like Lasor tank,but Mengsk,Tychus,Nova won't but they will have some unit that they don't have.And now how the map is set up it's simple really Kerrigan is in the middle of the map.Jim,Horner & Swann,Tosh in the top right.Mengsk,Tychus( u willl find out why i am putting Tychus with Megnsk and y his still allive after Jim shot him in the head it will all be in the cinematics)& Nova.Zeratul,Tassadar & Kharass in the top left.There will be more but i have not decided dat much also like there will be an AI Hostile Dark Protoss in the top middle (controlled by the Xel'naga),almost in the right middle Zagarra(controlled by the Xel'naga).I am just spit balling ideas here BTW the real reason i am putting this idea in is to find some guys dat can create the spells i want (BTW i know some people will say i don't type properly why-y,you-u,dat,der.... it's from playing LoL HoN Smite Dota 2 & Dota it's just how everyone types in those games :P)
I want each unit in the game to have a ability for every unit dat increases the dmg,hp(and other stuff for individuals,most likely each type of zerg,protoss,terran unit will have their dmg increased at diffrent rates i will explain let's say the Zergling 0.2 dmg for kill,Roach 0.3 dmg for kill) for every kill let's say The zerg every unit of the zerg will have an ability called evolve(Abither implants the wild mutation when eating essence in all the swarm so dat it would be more effective it will be in the cinematics) have individual extra abilitys on the heores/units(maybe even towers) dat stack.Well anyway dat's all the time i have to explain my map i will continue to explain my map tommorow so i guess till then :).(i really hope u guys like my map cause i don't know how to explain very well i just type stuff dat comes to my mind about the map)(i will send u guys tomorow a beta of the beta map xD)
BTW i forgot to mension the map is original i have made a map before in Warcraft 3(i am pro in dat editor) Arthas in the middle and so on but never really published only played it with friends cause i got too lazy to make AIs
I know i am not very good at this crap but i tryed organasing my text on my map and it took me a lot of time to replace dat,der and so on,on my map. but i was hoping more for some comments about the map and no my text :(
I'll be blunt. Besides your organasation issues, the map itself seems basic. The plot ideas that seem 'kewl' to you wouldn't play out to the public the same way you envision them. The map seems like it's going to require too much, especially considering your assumed modding level.
So not to be a dick, your map seems destined for failure. With that said just making maps is fun, so if you enjoy it, then do it.
On a more productive note, start with 2 or 3 factions and 1 or 2 heroes per faction, start there. You can always add more. That's my advice; start simpler. 94 levels of balance as "just a start" is a lot to make effectively balanced and fun IMO. You are talking cinematics... baby steps. I do like your enthusiasm, hate your grammar, and hope you continue with what you get enjoyment out of.
Interesting :/ .I can do cinematics skins create the new units the terrain dodats i can do everything for my map(cause i watched over like 100 videos about the editor even tho i am new)but the triggers(cause they are too many for me to remember them all but i do know a bit of them and how to use them)abilityes don't have a clue how to make a ability from scratch i can create it from another ability but IDK how to change it to the way i want it to,i think i can solve that like a jungle camp issue
mostly i need help with abilityes last night i was up all night on my computer designing the map (because my previus version was just poorly designed on my end so i try and make it up by spending today with this).
As for the map i want it to be rellent on champions mostly and the units will serve as supports.
So you see i have the most part figured out but the abilityes not yet.As i was looking for some maps i stumbled upon a map called 'Zerus - Leader of the pack' or something the guy i bellive he said that he was using a similar system (i didn't understand some parts of it but i asked him so i bellive i will get a responce).
This thread has cynical responses. I will add to them! ... In a kind manner.
A lot of people with high hopes will spend a day or two writing up and thinking up a very elaborate game concept. They will get super hyped up and be excited to have the idea made. They will ask for help because they have an idea, and not the matching skillset.
They will fail to realize: With a beginner level of skill, most games, including this game, will take easily 1000+ hours in the editor. Why? trial and error, learning, and that the editor tends to be hateful if you aren't good with it already. Also, no one else in the world has the same level of care for their project as they do. You can have an A quality game, 75% completed, and it would still be difficult to find someone willing to fully invest themselves into your project.
A lot of people will post ideas that have been attempted 1000 times before; and maybe completed a couple of times, and likely, did not make it. You should search for similar ideas first. (I know I have seen this concept 3-4 times in the past year on sc2mapster). See where they went wrong, figure out how to make it better.
You have failed to realize: People who like melee games, like melee games. Rarely do they like modified melee. Very rarely. You could almost claim "never". Look at all the hate blizzard gets when they change a units movespeed by 5% in a balance patch. It is a very balanced system. You think you can add hero units to it and maintain that balance? If you, do you think the people who actually ENJOY playing melee would want to re-learn all of their strats to play a custom game? What are the chances that custom gamers would want to play a melee based game? IMO: custom gamers play custom games, melee players play melee games. Mixing them is rarely a good idea.
The editor is more of a learning >memory deal. Learn to do something, learn to do it better, learn to do it better, learn to do it faster. Watching 100 youtube videos without using the editor is about as helpful as reading an instruction booklet in the store; and then going home and trying to remember how to assemble something. ... Except all of the pieces look the same, and you have to find them first.
Not trying to demoralize you, just express how massive the editor is, and how much work it is to create anything. If you invest the next week into this, or god forbid, convince someone else to; then realize "man, I am 1% done, I dont know what i am doing" or "wow, no one at all will help me test this, and no one who tests it likes the concept". well... You would most likely quit working on it, and no one would see you again.
As stated above: start small. Just learn to use the editor; fiddle around with things. Have no hopes or plans of getting anything played. A great way to learn is to offer minor helping roles for other people's projects. Maybe they will teach you some trigger work, in exchange for you doing some basic trigger work for them. Same goes for data work. Nothing teaches you how to make new units, like helping someone create a dozen new units! Then you will have a list of people who owe you favors; and may give you more help on your project.
One life advice in general: Presentation is so soo sooo important. I read Glorns post first, because it was well put and structured. Your punctuation and use of 'dat', etc are preventing people from taking you seriously. You will also find that this community is in many ways different than Dota (not saying that nobody plays it here) and what is common there is not necassarily good here.
Secondly, what made me even more suspicious, is that you have a lot of things very much thought out (which models to use, how many levels for an ability there are!) which are rather unimportant to the game and should be decided upon in the design process. The really important questions - gameplay wise (what is the role of the champions in comparision to normal units - if you cannot answer this question, changes are that you champions do not add to the map) are not being addressed.
Lastly, a comment on the content. In think this map idea can work and disagree with Glorn saying that custom melee is a bad idea in general. Most melee players won't play it, sure, but neither won't they play any other custom map. The reason why melee-close maps are frowned upon is, to my mind, that they are often made by inexperienced map makers who have a strong melee background and a limited horizon. I don't have much hope for you finding help here though, at least until you can show significant progress.
i have a lot of expierence with editors it dosn't mean if just started my first ever project that i just started with the editor first of all i have spend 10000 of hours on frozen throne(editing)(seeing other people content and how can i make my map better ETC)
Sure all the champions will be imbalanced right i have a way of balancing that it is by the placement let's say Kerrigan she will be the most powerful but the most she will be placed in the middle of the map making here really vanrable to attacks if she leaves her base and they start attacking by the time she gets back she could lose the game.My map is about timing more then strategy when you attack a base you need to be shure the enemy champion isn't in it or you will most likely fail or you can jungle with an army for a large period of time and attempt to destroy 1 of the 15 players -.-.The games will last long so make sure to have enoght time i am making units more powerful cause the new units i will add will have abilityes stronger then the normals so in order to balance that i am making them stronger so basicly your old tactics will be more efficient cause not only that i am adding some new abilityes to them cause the tide of battle can turn in moments.
The reason why this game is balanced even tho the races will have more champions then 1 is...1 of those many champins(or just the 1) will be very much OP so basicly you will want to advance with him but if any other guy desides to attack you you will have weaker units to defend.
Also i know players will play my map cause some players like my self miss the old champion system.
Also i am begging to be sceptical about the 94 lvls i will decrease it maybe 64( i put so many lvls cause i was planning you to get a ability every 10 lvls the other lvls will be used for lvling up 8 normal abilityes and 2 ultimate abilityes whitch unlock on lvl 34 and lvl 64).
Even if i don't find anyone willing to help me,i still hope i can find a map that will have those things i requer after i see the systems i want i will just apply it and quickly addapt to it and post the beta version of the map
but i still am having a lack of skins can someone pls tell me a guy or a site to download tons of skins from cause i can the textures and sizes but it would be better if i can get skins :P.
Like if your plan is to deminish my hope of this map being created.You guys are just like the guys on,i can't remember the site :P xD saying that my map can not be done it was done i was just to lazy to upload it and i stopped with the frozen thrown editor and started playing moba games.
Like i can think of 10000000 of custom awsome abilityes that combo each other and are balanced enoght but i am not very good at creating them... :P
If i wasn't so lazy(sometimes i gem pumped and i stop being lazy for a couple of hours ) my map would be done i can have a lot of units and all that but it's gonna be all with texture and size and i don't want that i want skins but ok i will create a beta map with each race having a minimum of 10 new units.And each race will have 1 hero with 2-4 abilityes. it will be out either today or tomorow on easter.

The map in the moment will consist of 1 complex thing a unit called commando that will have a shotgun everything else will be modified from the campaign and so on i will also be making units stronger so they will be in the same league as the new ones(or weaker).

It's in the data unit attritubes tab and the amount per attribute is done of the damage effect tab in the data module. Here's the best tip anyone can get being newish to sc2mapster. The search field, is gold. You can goto a forum and search specifically in that forum as well, so if you have a trigger question, goto the trigger forum and do a serach for what you want. IE if you wanted to make a unit face somewhere or order a group of units to attack-move somewhere search for "change unit facing" or "order units to attack" and in the first page or 2 you should find your solution.
Sc2mapster has been around so long, most every question can be answered through a previous post. Probably from years ago. With time and effort (doing a search and not waiting on responses), is seriously your best bet to improving your understanding the fastest, and easiest.
Also, when posting a map, i know I am more likely to download it and play it if theres a screenshot of a kind of 'what to expect' when playing. That's just me.
Hey guy there is sorta a problem the,i had a power outage for 5 hours this is the longest power outage i have seen in my entier life :(.
So the map is delayed i can do it quick enoght so the map will have 3 new units and the 3 heroes
(Everything else is done lvls for the heroes all that is left is to create the backtrack ability for Zeratul,The shotgun for the commando,the Fatalisk for the zerg and the commando Zealot that will have void prison,blink & IDK the abilityes name so i will just say the immortals shield ability)(I can create more units but i will need time so instead i will create more if i get an idea i probs will(ezbeats TY i will try and doing it but i learn all this stuff from onetwo's posts on the forum & videos also pixel lab games)
And ok i will post pictures just first need to create the units modules so you guys can see him & also i forgot i made a mistake that annoys me and it will be a problem since it gives free vision :(((
I created the commando unit as i was making the weapon the power outage happened and lost all that info but the system bugged and there is a untouchable unit in the field that gives vision in the key areas of the map :((( pls post to me fast if you guys can cause it's really annoying to see that red dot on the map and not be able to remove it :((.
I don't usually follow threads, but I posted here. Relax on the update, plenty of people here on sc2mapster have worked for well over a year on a map so 5 hours of downtime is seriously negligible. Sounds like you're making progress, good deal. Ima throw this out there;
