I would give starjeweled 5/10, its too long and not so fun to me anyway....
and Aiur Chef I give 6/10, I love the chef zealots, but the gameplay is seriosly lacking. But I think it has some potential, with more starting abilities it might be fun...
so I was a bit dissapointed. I actually tought Aiur chef would be awesome, but both games just suck...I might try them again if im really bored, but I guess I will still mainly stick with smascraft which is the best map in bnet...
Left 2 Die (on highest difficulty) is somewhat nice. Not for long, though. It all the bosses and events are unspectacular and gameplay still feels a little bit slow.
Also, it sucks when you eventually run out of minerals.
Aiur Chef:
Funny idea and nice models. But i wont play it a second time. it´s just boring, you can´t really compete against the other players. and only 3 abilities? common... They need to improve the gamplay and show more of their humor. or some sidemissions and so on. 4/10
Jewel thing:
i was bored after the 1st round. i was absolutly focused on the stupid jewels and i didn´t even look on the battle. it´s a nice idea and a real modification of starcraft gameplay, but again the gameplay is boring and there is no humor like in aiur chef. 2/10
Left 2 die:
The best map of the 3 maps released, but still not awesome. gameplay is copied from the campaign. ok the biomass thing is nice, but like a lot people before me said: why aren´t there new units, technologies and so on for the terrans? as a left4dead 1 and 2 player, i had to laugh about the new units like HUNTERling, kaBOOMER, and the rest of them. and i really like defense maps, but there are a lot defense maps which are as good as this map or better
6/10
Conclusion:
Fancy new models, sounds, units, abilities and 2 gameplay ideas are no garantee for good gameplay and fun. i expected a lot more from blizzard. if they remove the featured thing, they will fail on their own popularity system.
PS: How can i use the new unit models in the editor?
I havent played the maps but even when looking at TBs replays i find them boring. I stoped expecting good things from blizz sience WoW cata.
PLUS blizzard broke the map size limit. They with higher limits fail to be better than 3 mb sized maps.

Their maps ARE like 3 mbs. Each of them. The mods they use are only for localization. They contain the few sound files each map contains in like 20 different languages. The models aren't that large actually.

That's sort of the point. I like bejeweled and playing it this way is a lot more fun. They really made the game feel more addictive: rather than racing against a clock, you're participating in an intense tug of war against other players.
I was expecting a better score for Auir Chef. The options aren't pointless. If you get the abilities you can stall opponents, but the map is so large you might run into one guy and that guy won't be the guy you want to stall. So it might be pointless but I like to use them to mess with people. Also the items aren't as pointless because some are really useful. The intro is indeed boring should be able to skip or made it shorter. We need more time and be able to attack other chefs. But look on the bright side, we got a new zealot model to use.
I was never able to play Left 2 Die because nobody would join and now it's not featured anymore.
Sure you have the Terrans tryin to survive, what you need is a Z faction who can try to help their mindless horde break the fort.
If you want a game that's really like L4D (like you said) play my old map that I made (which got punted because they wanted the name I had already published it as). Its now called Left 4 Death. I'm still pretty sore about what they did, and how they replaced it with a mod that doesn't even play like L4D. -_-
Good luck getting a game started though. The new popularity system screws everyone.
I think i remember playing that game mephs, didn't know you made it, it was pretty cool. Root problem that blizzard is experiencing themselves now is the gameplay inherent to the engine just isn't very fun. The foundation of the net code and combat systems and UI just don't blend together to create fun user experiences as we see by looking at damn near any game on bnet.
So much for the SC2 engine being able to do anything. I mean sure, you can force it to do lots of things, it just wont be as fun as you'd like.
The engine is very good at making a stale translation of SC and it does that very very well, but it simply doesn't support creative game design very well.
The map editor has a buttload of restrictions and limitations on just how much you can do with it. There's no doubt about that. But breaking off to make a standalone game would take time, money, resources I don't have. So its a good way to display your talents in game design if nothing else.
I did do some work on a game engine a year or two ago, the project never came to fruition but I got a good deal of work done on it, the map editor is convenience at least. I don't have to worry about making models, art, etc outside of some UI things.
If I could, I'd make Smashcraft a standalone game and just make it astounding on a gameplay front, but that's not an option right now.
The Chef game allows other players to gain abilities to take down the guy that is in first place. Then if someone else takes the lead, they can screw up that guy. It's a good chance that if u are a good player, you won't win in Aiur Chef.
I agree Left 2 die was too easy, even if you didn't research anything.
The Jewel game is very boring, if both teams are good and evenly matched because it takes a long time to finish just 1 round, but now you have to finish 2 or 3 more to win which makes it a lot more boring.
Aiur chef I played once and didn't feel like replaying, not enough PvP factor. You're just rushing to grab ingredients faster than others, and can use few skillz to annoy your opponents more than harm them.
Starjeweled played a bit more, i'd say its pretty balanced. Tho atm it's just game of who can spawn more ultras, if you make anything else you most likely will lose. Also they have cleave on air units (bug i assume), so they can even kill hard counters if theres some marines below them to attack. Lots of people undervalue chain heal from what I've seen, healing ultras worth 500 energy for 250 turned the tide of battle for me lots of times.
I've only done Left 2 Die and Starjeweled. Starjeweled is just .. nonsense really, you just play bejeweled like regular and choose random units and as long as you puzzle well you win, almost regardless of strategy. Boring after 1 round.. Left 2 Die has too little players aswell, it should be a different map than the campaign one and more different and more regularly 'special' zombies spawning to attack you would make it alot more fun. On normal all you need is some marine, marauder, medics and you can win easy.. just spam those units. I liked the campaign map because it was new, this map is too similar to the campaign map and I feel that it could use alot better terrain and more players to make it more fun. Perhaps starting out with a few more units than just the marine/marauder/that bike-thing would spice it up a little.
There's actually alot of strategy in the unit you pick on StarJewel'd, you realize this the more you play it.
The problem is at higher end of skills, the game eventually just breaks down 90% to just the puzzle, if you're godlike at the puzzle you can just spam ultra as you said and win easily.
If the game was made more 50/50 between puzzle and tactics/strategies you do within the game, I think it more fun and of course challenging trying to manage both all at the same time.
Tested Aiur Chef and StarJeweled...
I would give starjeweled 5/10, its too long and not so fun to me anyway....

I actually found Star Jeweled pretty awesome.
Unit compositions are a bit dodgy thou, Immortals are a joke, tanks are pretty redundant etc. etc.
Aiur Chef really needs to be more competitive, it just feels like you're playing single player.
Aiur Chef: Funny idea and nice models. But i wont play it a second time. it´s just boring, you can´t really compete against the other players. and only 3 abilities? common... They need to improve the gamplay and show more of their humor. or some sidemissions and so on. 4/10

This is just a comment for Left2Die, why is the FileSize 39 MB? when i can only make a map on 10 MB? (I think, havn't look in a long time..)
The map is actually 2.89 MB. It requires a mod file, which may be bigger in size and hold the used models and stuff.
@Kueken531: Go
okay, because when i wanted to play it, it said File Size: 39 MB.. So i were like, Woot? But thank you for the explain (:

What Left 2 Die needs is VS.

I hate to say, but, Mephs' maps are better than Blizzard's maps. (I can't believe I'm saying that).
