I can't believe people actually don't know how DoTA started. Icefrog made it as a custom map for WC3, just ike DoBRP or Footmen Wars. Technically his character Zeus is based off of Muradin (Mountain King) because that was the model! He has the same abilities too. And no need to fucking flame, I wasn't flaming you dumbass.
This post is funny because Icefrog didn't even make DotA. He just modded it.
Eul made dota, Icefrog was like the 4th modder of it in "All-stars" on tft, and his editing caused dota to be split into at least three major communities.
My thread gotta have that power, beside Blizz Dota review is still a point of discussion, not like the other 3. However most of these concept is likely to be revised anyway so we're in the dark until smt happend at this blizzcon
The fact that Blizzard's investing into these mods can already show how much they have planned and how it would most likely be rather successful.
After all, one of the best mods of all time started in a Blizzard game, along with other mods that inspired other games.
So yeah, I kind of love Blizzard for helping the community this way in merely a single year of the game, looking forward to other updates!
PS: And trust me, Blizzard does listen to the community... Secretly(:
Blizzard will probably take to activision ways and ignore the community where it counts. For activision it's the balance of their CoD games. Blizzard it's the custom map areas. I'm assuming that Blizzard Dota will only be for HotS screwing those of us who waited patiently for it to come out and bought WoL because we thought we would have a good system and only to find out years later it's only on HotS or possibly not even the best they could do. They'll have the "complete" custom map setups in LotV or whatever the protoss one is called just so they can get us to buy the newer games.
They confirmed that BDotA would be released with HotS. It does seem like they're making it more than a custom map now though, with integrated leagues and stuff.
At least we'll be able to use tons of new models that aren't imported from elsewhere, so the filesize would still be rather neatly kept.
And just a thought:
If they could make leagues for other 'mods' instead of just the melee games, think about it, it's just the beginning of something.
Soon, Blizzard mods can become easily accessible and have advanced leagues as well, making the game even more interesting...
Just to top it off, the better player-made mods which are approved might have their maps implemented into specific leagues as well, which would mean that it'll be so much more awesome(:

Blizzard DotA is gonna be initially free on the Arcade for those even without the game.
