I'm planning to make a Dungeon Crawler/Hack and Slash map, in the vein of WarChasers (one of the custom maps that came with WC3) with a lot of Diablo influences.
The basic formula will be strolling through the dungeon, killing mobs and bosses, getting items and solving puzzles and minigames. I'm planning to have some randomization included, such as the game picking from pools of enemies (and perhaps non-major bosses) to place in the dungeon, spawning progress-related items in one of few areas, blocking or changing the routes of some paths, etc.
As for the heroes, learning skills will be similar to using skilltrees. There'll be a center node, your innate ability, which will lead to 3 branches with other nodes, which will be active abilities, passive abilities or upgrades. The final node on the branch will be an ultimate ability. You would gain points to every time you level up, which you can use to unlock or upgrade nodes.
Speaking of heroes, they will each have their own resource (energy/mana replacements) and secondary life layer (shield replacements). These replacements will function differently from each other (for the most part). Some abilities/attacks may be more efficient against units/heroes that use energetic resources/shield equivelants than to ones who have physical ones, and vica versa. Also, all heroes will also be able to fend off enemies on their own, but of course, some might be more efficient in a group than alone.
I'm also thinking of implementing some secondary modes, such as versus/PvP ones (like Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, a 2-team coop/versus hybrid where you gain points by killing monsters and can kill other players for each X points you reach) and some coop/PvE ones (like survival, going through a much smaller random dungeon than going through the larger main one, etc).
Before starting any work, I'd like to ask; does this sound like it could be interesting/fun? Any suggestions or advice?
Anything that involves words like "Rpg", "Roguelike", "Hack&Slash" and "DungeonCrawl" is supah interesting and fun by default.
Anyway your goal is very ambitious and require amazing editor skills and freaking amount of free time (omg roguelike multiplayer with randomization and pvp? will be your 2nd work). Hope you have this.
Yep, it will definitely take a very looong time to complete, but I'll be patient, and fortunately will have loads of time in the next 3-5 months. I guess I'll start working on it later this month or so, but anyway, thanks for the feedback! :)

Seems pretty nice project. I like RPGs.
I think it will take long to make it but if it's well done it can be very addictive ;)

Don't ask, just make it.

That seems like an Interesting Idea :)
