Hi guys, posted this on the SC2 Custom Map forum but thought I'd ask here too:
So, I have been toying with the editor for quite some time and now that I have finally gotten a computer capable of running sc2 on max settings I've decided I would start doing some mapmaking.
I have a few ideas in my head for a cool custom campaign, but before I start this big undertaking, I would like a little feedback from the community.
Basically, the game would be a single-player campaign with a completely different story and characters apart from the canon StarCraft story arc. It would be heavily focused on character development and a cool (well, hopefully) fictitious story of my creation. There would be parts in the game where the player/character would enter first-person mode in a free-roaming RPG-esque world, combined with different RTS scenarios.
My goal is to seamlessly intertwine the two, where finding some cool gadgets or upgrades in the first-person adventure would help the player in the RTS settings, and vice-versa.
I have thought about possibly doing this multiplayer, but I like the idea of someone being able to progress through the story and his or her own pace. Perhaps adding multiplayer at the end of the story for players to free roam together?
My question to you guys (and gals) is, would you be interested in a single player RPG/RTS like this? It obviously would be nowhere near as in-depth as the Wings of Liberty campaign, but I think it could be a really cool experience when all is said and done.
I would probably enjoy such a map, assuming it was well-made. I had thought about making something similar myself, just don't have the time or enough motives for doing so.
Thanks for the input so far, guys. As far as being well-made goes, I have a very high standard for myself in what I perceive to be a good and well-made map. The project will most likely be in development for quite some time, as I intend to use critical camera directing and voice acting to really integrate the story into the game.
As soon as I have some actual footage of the map, I'll be sure to post links.
Buuuuut, that might not be for a while, so hang tight!

The concept is good and can definetly be a lot of fun, if implemented well. Looking forward to it. :-)
