I was wondering if anyone has figured out a way to access HotS models, specifically the doodads. I noticed that it had a lot of ship models (which I am especially interested in) and a lot of medieval themed doodads that the community here may like. However, I have not figured out a way of how to access them. I do have the Alpha and I wish it came with an editor.
the extractor for the new Blizzard CASC file system that I found, extracts the files just fine but with has indexes as names, ex. 0002584789365471.m3 etc...
so it is impossible to know which file is what, except... in the m3 files, at a certain binary offset in the file, which is in every file the same position, it contains the name of the file.
So I wrote a little c# script that reads out the name of the file and replaces the ugly hash code to a nice name of the file.
Also, with the current m3 import script it is impossible to read animation, bones, rigs etc... haven't found anyone that changed the script either.
So my 3D Model viewer is just able to read in the vertices, faces, normals and uv's from the file and display the static model. The same thing what the m3 import script does if you do not check the checkboxes with bones, animations etc.
This also means that the textures, for me to be able to map them to the model, will need to go through all of them one by one to be able match them with the model.
The meaning of my modelviewer is to go through all of the models in that folder just by clicking the green arrow, being, load next model or load previous model. And export to obj, if required :)
It supports app (Diablo III), wmo ( World Of Warcraft world models), m3 (SC2 & HotS), 3ds (Max) and obj as import and obj as export.
@TaylorMouse: Go I think it will be enough for static doodads, or if people want the meshes and nothing else for other uses. Thank you for working on it.
Some select models can be imported using the m3 importer if you only have import mesh and vertex normals selected. Finding the textures is hard though. Not to mention sorting through the models. But I've almost got Tassadar skinned to the preserver I just have to find the normal and specular maps.
Should probably note I won't be releasing anything until HoTS either comes out or we find out they will release assets I don't want anyone getting banned.
Please we will never use that shitty cartoony metal slug siege tank called sgt. hammer ... And i just hate too the Zagara model... What the hell she just lost 4 talons, i don't understand why remove it ??? Animation issuses??? To make space for the "mount" wings that make her fly ?? Or is just a shitty design idea to make her look like "oooh look at these i am so sexy and zergy cool, and look at these b00bs" ?
Tyrande is going to get a new model with better head and hair... So i suggest you to don't waste time on it...
Look LOOK ! Also the skin... I like the Scorpion/Scantipede idea but i wanted to have a level 3 Niadra skin instead :(
Initially that model is the Duke's tank, but then Blizzard decided to replace Duke with the fucking Sgt. Hammer that nobody care insted of more popular and famous Duke, I HATE HAMMER. And the "cartoonish look" is only a shader problem, very easy to solve

No editor but yes, I'm able to access ALL the models :)

Can I get a glimpse of Pigs and Farm Fences? :D
Hi. I am quite new here.
So are you able to port Heroes's models and textures to the Sc2 ? Can you export grass textures for example ?
PS. it is not a request.
@TaylorMouse: Go
Ooh nice! Could you post that ship at least? I would very much love it in my map! My map is all about ship to ship combat.
Ok here is the catch:

Here is a little progress on the script I'm working on.
It should import any m3 model from the Heroes of the Storm in MAX 2011
Just the static mesh is supported, no bones, attachment points, materials, or anything else is supported ...
Change the file =@"d:\blablabla\blablaba.m3" to the path where your model is, in the future I'll implement a file select window...
Check it in my assets!
