Thought this was interesting, they just created a job posting for All-Stars Lead Designer. Perhaps it'll be a AAA game right off the bat, rather than running through SC2? Seems like they're pushing to make it a legitimate product more and more as time passes... Could also be the reason why we haven't heard anything in so long, ;).
My guess is that it will probably still run within the starcraft 2 engine- but since it's going to be included in the Starter Edition, it's essentially it's own free to play game.
Either way it certainly looks like they're working to make this more than just some mod :)
So what happened during HotS development that LotV now needs this? It doesn't bode well for a timely release, that's for sure!
On the other hand, I also noticed a UI artist for Blizzard All-Stars. Is the project so in-depth that it requires this level of commitment? Sounds promising to me.
HOLY SHIT, did Dustin Browder get canned? or is he retiring or something? or is he quitting the sc2 department? unless there are more then 1 lead game desingers.
Whoa, that job position appeared just yesterday? Probably decided to have a second lead designer.
It looks like they're building a product that will provide enough motivation for people to download starters edition. Something to draw folks into sc2 environment, something so good that it can compete with other mobas.. which is cool.
Browder is a Game Director/Lead Designer. I think he is above a typical Lead Designer. I think All-Stars is getting more attention overall, and Browder already has so many projects to oversee (WoS balance, HotS features & balance, plans for LotV) so they are looking for an additional leader for AS.
If they do it right then even a Starters Edition will not be required to play AS. It would just be a nuisance to get.

EDIT: Cleaned up the link.
Excellent >:

This dysfunctional team has been hogging starcraft2's development for 6 years now, it's time for some changes.
I'm assuming it to be a AAA flop, Blizzard isn't going to out-model what HoN and LoL has already done... Don't even know why they are still trying... New skins don't make new gameplay, Blizzard of all corporations should know this by now. I'm assuming they realized their error so far ergo trying to bring one of these HoN or LoL people over to Blizz. It's all a ploy by the think tank... I won't be fooled again.
I'm mostly concerend that they are limiting themselves with their existing IP. From what I have seen and heard so far most of the content will be already existing content like heroes and estethics. My rough analysis of the game-market right now is that people are a bit tired of the established IP:s. People want fresh stuff. On the console market you have the new iterations coming on soonish. Not so much stuff going in on the PC department....

I wouldn't be surprised if they did make its own engine, they don't seem to be looking for specific Sc2 mapping expertise.
There's a near-identical job listing for StarCraft II for Lead Game Designer:

I really hope blizz allstars would come to sc2, since I feel its almost like only factor that could increase player count :D
and they said it would....like 2 years ago :D

This has been posted for a while (2 weeks roughly).
That experience, is really important experience.
Gah and imagine all the assets we are not getting while blizzard is trying to recreate dota...
I hope it will come soon

I like the idea of F2P, It'll be a good competition for DOTA2, But naturally they are gonna add Micro-tranactions.
But, I shouldn't complain, not like i'll actually purchase anything from the store.
