Hiya guys. I'm wondering if there are any WoW fans here that are curious for Mists of Panderia. I got a key to the press & fansite beta, and I'm wondering if anybody here wants to see some coverage. If you guys are interested, I'll fight against the installing issues and get some info out, assuming I can get everything to work. :P
edit- Yeah, as much as I'd love to give the key away, it's against the terms of agreement. That would pretty much bar us from getting any more in the future :(
edit 2- After a ridiculous amount of failed attempts, I seem to have gotten it to start installing (everybody say thanks to Mr. Almaity over there). We'll see if I can get it to actually work, though.
I thought about making videos for MoP as well once I have a proper internet connection again and can play it (I hate moving >.>) Maybe the 2 of us can make some vids together occasionally :p Dont think theres a regionlock on the beta (I think its just one global server, dont know for sure though)
Here Enlies the epic quest of JmanJman, the panderan monk who triumphed over all evil.
Day 1-5: JmanJman tried unsuccessfully to install the WoW Beta
Day 6: JmanJman was able to install the beta on a different computer; however, due to his slow internet speed the download took a full day
Day 7: JmanJman could not continue on his quest, because too many people crowded around the quest objective.
Yeah.... Me & TheAlmaity will try to get a joint play-through set up for you guys (though at the moment we're facing a few technical difficulties). We'll go through the starting area and perhaps show you around the island. In the meantime, I'll see if I can manage to click on this quest objective....
I would like a quick review/article that answers this: Is blizzard moving to mmorpg genre forward into the future, or perfecting the past with MoP?
I'd say the latter, judging from the features MoP has. Time limits are effectively high scores, another way for people to compete against eachother thus increasing the longevity of the game. Monks feature a 'new' playstyle that's effectively a different combination of mechanics (AoE damage, single target heals, single target CC, etc) and the battle pet system is effectively Pokémon for bored people in Orgrimmar and Stormwind. The only thing that seems to be progressive is the lore, setting and storytelling, which seems as grand as always.
I don't think WoW has been very progressive since Vanilla, tbh. TBC, WOTLK and Cata all added some shape of progression, but I'd say 90% of the content of those expansions was also more of the same.
Diablo 3 is coming out. HoTS. Dota 2 etc etc. There`s just a ton of better games and things to do than play ANOTHER lame wow grind fest.
Buy the expansion, pay monthly sub, grind grind grind. No real satisfaction. The time investment when you look back many years later will almost always be a regret.
If you actually want a realistic rpg/mmorpg experience, take a look at Guild Wars 2. It actually peaked my interest greatly and I`ll probably get it(though Im not a MMORPG fan). It looks great and no monthly sub.
But yea, please, for the love of whatever. Dont feed greedy Blizzard, trying to milk an out-dated sh1tty limited engine(pixelated and everything), with a boring game like WoW. 90% of the time there is literally nothing to be done in the game than idle in SW and ORG, and wait to grind for your next ilvl higher item. Its cut and dry and boring as that. Its lifeless and without soul. There`s nothing for casuals, and hardcore makes you a no-lifer(to some small extent).
Im glad I quit, but I was a complete fool for having played the game on and off as I did in the past. For about one year and 6 months:/. No other game comes attached with regret after playing it, than wow. Just not worth it.
Agreed. Vanilla though was unique in that it was in effect a blank slate. Game mechanics, quest styles, play styles etc. could be built from the ground up and sold as something unique and interesting. The fundamentals of the game could not be changed too drastically between expansions however - that would be detrimental. That is why those of us who played Vanilla - especially those who played from the start - have such nostalgia about it. Everything was new, fresh, raid bosses and raid mechanics were introduced to make for some truly awe inspiring spectacles. Now, with the scaling down of raids, the revisiting of Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms, the game does seem to be stagnating. Especially when combined with only very minimal revamps in playstyle (paladin holy power as one example). I for one don't think I'll be renewing my subscription and nor will I be purchasing MoP. There is only so much perfume one can spray to hide the smell of manure.

This is where I disagreed. I've got some regret playing it, but none of that really handles the content of the game. The starting zones and quests easily offer the second best feeling of immersion I've ever had, with only Mass Effect topping the score. It's ridiculous how well the (limited-engine's!) environment, sounds and music melt together with the playstyle. I've not really made a lot of long-term friends during raids and all that, but there's still things that make me glad I did play the game.
WoW defined it's genera when it first came out, and blizzard did a great job. But it is 10 years later, and you can't possibly expect a 10 year old game to hold up. The fact that the game still exists shows what a great job they did with it. But the technology available nowadays to work this kind of stuff is far better than what they had before, and WoW is going to die. I'm very exited for blizzard TITAN project, because they've certainly learned from the past. The quality of blizzard games is outrageous now- look at sc2 or diablo 3. I'm calling it right now: Project titan is going to be amazing. And I better get a beta key for it. From what I've heard, they're improving their storytelling and structure a lot, but there's only so much you can do to a 10 year old game.
But I'm still going to cover panderia because blizzard sent us keys that they totally didn't have to, and it's something that I'm definitely interested in.
Today's screenie, to satisfy you while we wait to fix our current technical difficulties. That structure in the distance is the temple of five dawns, in the center of the panderan starting zone.
No idea what this is....If only you could hear the sound they make :P
Good news, folks. We've got things just about ready to go with the video playthroughs, and we'll start recording the 1-15 starting zone content for those of you who are interested. For now, we're going to focus on the starting zone (mainly because the actual panderia continent is not in the beta as of now).
Edit- It is a beta guys. And my client was just like "Yeah, I'm not going to work anymore"... Sigh... I'll see if I can get it working again.

Me wants it.
Information, that is, not your code. Well, scratch that, I want your code too but I know that's unlikely to happen.
Just make me a mod so then you technically won't be giving the key away to some random person, it'll be staff :D
I'm kind of interested but not really. WoW has gotten way too big imo and if I start playing it I'll probably only play pokemon minigame.

Would like to see that. Not playing myself anymore, but I'd probably watch a playthrough of the new starting zone once for the feeling.
