So I would assume that the makers of Starmon play, or at least did, but I was wondering if anyone else still does? I bought Soul Silver when it came out, and only played it for the first time about 3 weeks ago. I'm sort of addicted to it again. (When I play any game more than I play SC2, I know I'm addicted lol)
So I figured a Pokemon discussion thread would be interesting. Feel free to discuss: Favorite Pokemon, favorite version, favorite region, strategies, now much of a nerd I am for liking Pokemon (even though I think it's safe to say that no one on this forum would take being called a nerd as an insult), etc. From an SC2 community, I'm curious to see the results.
I'm pretty sure I've played every version in full or at least the "deluxe" version of each gen. Funny thing is that I've never played them on a nintendo device, always an ipod/tablet sort of thing with an emulator. I grew up right around the peak of it so its lovingly emgraved into my live (still love it if you couldn't tell =) )
I haven't played in a while, but in 2011-2012 I completed a bunch of Pokémon games, namely the ones I hadn't played when I was younger. I think the ones I went through were Crystal, Emerald, Platinum, Heart Gold, Black and White. Black twice and White one and a half times.
Black and White are easily my favourites as they are simply such good sequals to all games before them. The concept of Red and Blue was simple and nice, but every consecutive game added one or more cool mechanics to the game - this has culminated in Black and White as the latest versions. Duo-battles, wiggling grass with special pokémon, the item finder, running boots... you name it. Also explains why I've effectively played that tier of Pokémon through more than thrice whereas I've only done every other tier once, maybe twice.
I'm looking forward to the release of the newest games. I believe they were called Pokémon X and Y. It can literally only get better if it's like Black and White with improvements. I've grown a bit tired with the older ones and can't put myself to playing anything older than Platinum, but I'd definitely re-play something that has all the features of Black/White in a seperate world.
I used to play Soul Silver on DS. Pokemon used to be fun, but now with the new generations (from 5 and on) the added Pokemon just get crappier, so i'm sad about that, how Pokemon used to be such a great game.
Does anybody know if there's some kind of Pokemon game for PC or IPod/IPhone app?
I wish they would stop adding new Pokemon. I wish they would just improve the game and story, while keeping the same Pokemon. Maybe add a couple of new ones, but adding 50+ Pokemon every new game is a bit ridiculous in my opinion.
I like playing the versions, and I like reading about the competitive scene and tactics etc, don't play competitively myself, though. I enjoyed the versions I played, but I skipped a bunch inbetween (went from gold+silver straight to heartgold+soulsilver).
The BW series added some very nice new improvements, a lot of comfort functions and new ways of acquiring certain pokemon etc. I quite enjoyed playing these.
I hate all these pokemon only available via some events or some external devices (Pokewalker -.-) you have to play stupid minigames or wifi-only rooms and such things. I don't have a problem with certain pokemon (or certain abilities and moves on pokemon) being hard to get, but it should be possible within the game itself. For example I Love the breeding stuff and the moves only available via breeding, sometimes requiring long breed chains to get a specific move on a pokemon, and I love the hidden grottos in BW2, allowing you to get rare pokemon with their even rarer hidden ability within the game (without entering this Dream World bullshit), or the frustrating grind with your telephone friend, who trades rare pokemon with their hidden abilities after you gave him 60 calls from different locations and stuff.
You forgot BW2 in your list, btw :D
I don't mind new pokemon being added at all, some of the BW introduced stuff was awesome (Volcarona <3)
I played the original red and blue, and the yellow one. I tried to play gold but didn't like it. The last I played was ruby. I played all of them in a PC through emulators. I don't play pokémon anymore because nintendo went nuts with that pokedex, adding lots of unoriginal or "wtf" pokemons. The 5th generation was overkill.
Also I grew tired of the same childish plots over and over. I understand it couldn't be any different, but it doesn't work for me anymore. I can't go "catch them all" and still feel the same when I catch a "rare" pokemon when they create 3 or more lengedaries every new game.

The story in Pokémon Black/White is actually very mature and funnily enough one of the more interesting game-stories I've ever witnessed. Try it, you'd be surprised. At the same time, I also like the new pokémon, usually. A lot of them seem a bit staple and boring, but occasionally there's the odd interesting new concept in there. It's a preference thing, but I also love exploring what kind of new and crazy Pokémon they came up with every new game and working out what team I want to set up along with that.
First you forgot black and white2 and the gamecube ones. I have played all except black and white 2.
The first gen ones had the problem with Missing No. being able to be converted into a lvl 157 Snorlax of doom. Also it needed the Nintendo pokemon colosseum to get the surfing Pikachu until yellow came out. The event only pokemon were impossible to get without gameshark.
Second gen was solid and allowed the use of weird tm combos through backtrading like the dreameater + sleep powder Eggcutor. It also was the day before every man and his houndoom knew a fire, ice and electric move. Still getting event only pokemon was nigh on impossible outside US and Japan.
Third gen introduced the specialities like pickup so having a team of 5 sentrets would keep you in items galore. Sadly they added level caps to pickups in later games. Still technician rocks. Still forget about event only ones.
The fourth gen became too much uber legendary orientated with Dalgia having the only type combo better than bug/steel.
The fifth gen took that to new extremes with the event only Genosect having both the bug/steel type but also uber attack.
Due to how game mechanics have altered over versions the baton pass power up strat no longer works since most pokemon have acces to water, ice, fire, electricity or phychic moves. This means they have a high chance of two hitting even the best stats.
I still am a fan of Sizzor since it has good attack, the bug/steel type and the technician technique combinged with flying, steel and bug moves boosted by it. Smearagle is also good with a quick claw since it has access to the lockon/mind reader + guillotine/fissure/sheer cold combo which only the event only articuno has otherwise. It can also have U-Turn and Spore so it can flee/inta sleep opponents.
@Mozared: Go I've seen my cousin play those and I won't. the ones with Zekram and Reshiram, that merge into something else, right?
@DrSuperEvil: Go I had a level 100 Clefable of doom with one fire, one electric and one ice move, plus metronome in the original red, so what? The rest of my team wasnt really important lol. I don't know if they changed anything about Metronome but using it with a level 100 pokemon back in the days meant it would only use the most powerful moves around, I used it to troll enemies or simply when the other moves weren't effective.
And you could play red and blue many many times without ever seeing a Missing No. But players started looking for trouble. I actually never found a Mew and never bothered looking.
I never played the games past fire red. Personally I think after that there were to many Pokemon and it just became boring and unoriginal. However I still occasionally play yellow or silver. Awesome games.
So I would assume that the makers of Starmon play, or at least did, but I was wondering if anyone else still does?
I never played pokemon as much as some people think. I played a little bit of Red when it came out, and then I played Pokemon Colosseum. Pokemon Colosseum is pretty under appreciated (*cough cough* it's not on your list *cough cough*), but I really enjoyed it.
Does anybody know if there's some kind of Pokemon game for PC or IPod/IPhone app?
There's nothing official out. I was searching for fan PC pokemon games forever when I was looking for inspiration for our UI. There really isn't anything worth mentioning. :/
I've been kinda uninteresting in the pokemon games, since to me, they don't change much each time. But it looks like they're really changing things up with X/Y, so that's exciting.
@Mozared: Go I've seen my cousin play those and I won't. the ones with Zekram and Reshiram, that merge into something else, right?
Zekrom, but yes and no. I don't recall them doing any merging or anything of the like, but they are the Black and White mascottes and do appear in the games. What you play is up to you, but if my opinion's anything to you I'll say that the story in B&W isn't very childish at all.
@Mozared: Go Hmmm my cousin showed me what was supposed to be the result of merging those two. It is actually Zekrom or Reshiram + Kyurem (I googled it). Anyway, I believe you, but I really don't have free time to play pokemon anymore, and the new generation of pokemons in B&W doesn't help to get me any more interested. So instead of going back to emulators I will wait for Starmon! XD
I left out B2 and W2 because I ran out of poll options... I guess I'll clump Emerald, Platinum, and Crystal into their respective generations.
And I suppose I will add in Pokemon Colosseum. I agree that it was an amazing game. (The cutscene at the beginning where the main character blows up the hideout when stealing the snag machine is still one of my favorite cutscenes of any video game ever)
I was curious to see whether people enjoyed the "3rd wheel" of every generation, or if they liked the original 2. I personally have always been fond of picking one of the first 2. For me, it went Blue -> Silver -> Sapphire -> Diamond -> White. I still haven't played White 2 or Black 2. But I'm getting X when it comes out, and I will eventually get White 2.
Above=A Pokemon RPG for PC. Amazing. Just with all the pokemon up to generation 4, and pretty much everything you said :P. Now just hope they ar going to make one.
Love PKMN. I got Blue when I was 8 for Christmas, and I've been hooked. My favorite of all time was Silver, so I was naturally elated when they came out with the DS remakes. I still play that game. =) More importantly, I still have the Pokewalker device, the step-counter that you can send a PKMN to and it'll train and look for PKMN to catch while on the go.
I'm kinda just looking forward to X&Y just to see what they'll add on to the series. Somewhere on the web is a running list of animals we have yet to see become PKMN (hummingbirds, for example), and Gen6 might just be the remedy to that.

@SoulFilcher: Go
Mew was event only.
@Mozared: Go
Actually it is meant to be a merge of the two since they were the split halves of some deity pokemon.

Aside from the 'normal' Pokemon games, there were also Dungeon Rescue Team games, or something called like that.
