I tried to play Age of Empires Online and downloaded it from Steam. I haven't ever met anything as crappy bullshit as GFWL.
Free to play game asks for product key, what the hell? I'm was googling answer for that shit and found some sort of answer and tried to set up my account - waste of 1 hour and nothing works.
When you decide to buy (retail box) game make sure it doesn't have "Games for Windows LIVE" tag. All my "Games for Windows" work fine but avoid this LIVE thing like plague. I own 5 "Games for Windows games" and no problem with these. My latest purchase with this tag was Skyrim. So "Games for Windows" is ok but same thing with LIVE is crap.
Wow, that has the be the most biased review i have ever read(Gamespy Link)... lol and 95% of his points are crap... 1st, Steam is not as great as he says. it STILL has a long ways to go, its very buggy, and it needs a major feature update. Raptr is already becoming a better service.
While GFWL CAN suck, it doesnt always, I personally thought that in AOE Online it was fine. I never had any problems with it, I only quit playing because I reached the limits of the F2P and didnt feel like dishing out 20$. Also I had no problems in Arkham Asylum, nor Halo 2, nor Lost Planet, nor Crysis 2.(played on older bros computer)
I have played at least 8 games that I can think of, and gotta say I have never had a problem, while it has its errors its okay.
But just let the record show... whoever wrote that article is a moron, for more reasons then one. and I dont mean the thread above mine, people have problems from time to time. ( if you wish i am willing to elaborate :P)
My suggestion, Screw steam, Screw GFWL, I use Raptr, at least then i get to choose whether or not to integrate it with anything else. :P I hate auto integration. I would rather the devs host their own servers so i can play without all that extra crap.
I don't usually ragepost but when I do it has lot of rage. :D (You know that meme?) OK... I'm was really frustrated when I posted 1st post. :)
For PC gamers there are at least 4 systems that I know: Steam, Origin, Blizzard own system and GFWL (or Xbox LIVE or whatever is connected to this messenger / hotmail thing?). I don't really support Steam or Origin but when I buy retail box I can add / I am forced to add that add game to my account. Best thing on Steam is good sales. I haven't bought anything from Origin, only added games bought as retail box. Games on Steam are usually more expensive than retail boxes so I haven't ever bought full priced game from Steam.
Not sure who to blame but I wasn't able to play Age of Empires Online. Is that game good? I liked some old AoE and I'm was planning to play that with friends on LAN party.
I was so frustrated when I need to make some shit account just to play a game and then verify every time I log onto it. Even in a fucking SINGLE PLAYER GAME.
If I have a game from steam it should provide enough DRM for the companies. BUT I have to fucking still verify myself to every piece of shit comppany.
(YES I HATE UPLAY TOO, WHAT BUNCH OF BULLSHIT IS THAT TOO)
Well once you do get into AoE Online you will realize, that its crappy to navigate. Iol, AoE online is a momentous failure when you get in game it feels like your playing AoE 1 all over again, with WORSE graphics, Its not a good game :P. But As far as GFWL i havent had a problem :P.
Still that review was biased as hell haha. And very shitty.
When Win 7 came out GFWL wasnt updated, and I think thats what causes a lot of its problems, i know its stupid, but its not compatible with its own OS:P
In vista it works fine though.
Raptr is awesome, What it does is overlay an interface thats smoother then steams, While it is lacking a few features (Voice chat, Groups), it makes up for it, by allowing you to Add all your game accounts to one place and combine your entire achievement library its a relitivly new program so it still has bugs of its own, but its really cool, They also give out rewards for playing games for example, 4 weeks ago there was a contest where they gave out 600 HoTS beta keys to anyone who clicked Claim (1 per an account) to anyone who had their Sc2 Up to Elite game time, (Play for 110 hours), I missed the hours by 7 hours haha, and my older brother missed the time :P.
They also gave out free copies of MineCraft the day it came out on XBLA, to anyone who was elite in 2 or more Sandbox games.
Its pretty cool though, It can integrate with ANY GAME too, Even those on steam, and will disable steams overlay, since you can link your steam account and talk to everyone you talk to over steam.
