Now I'm not British but I just want to know your opinions because the historic vote has a significant geopolitical and macroeconomic effect around the world. With regards to the US stock market, particularly this morning at the New York Stock Exchange, the S&P 500, NASDAQ, AND DOW Jones plummeted due to the decrease of business confidence in a market of cheap labor and trade agreements that have to be re-negotiated with the UK and EU. By Pres. Obama's words, the UK will be in several years with UK at the end of a long queue for the nations of the EU. Moreover, currencies worldwide have fallen with the British Pound being at its lowest since thirty-one years.
I think it's quite important, since the UK is the first country in the EU to have its own independent currency and leave voluntarily through civilian vote, although in my country this event is unlikely to cause a significant recession due to relative stability in regards to international business and trade being widespread within US companies. I don't know how the other international economies work.
I just wanted to hear some of the thoughts of our multinational community about how they feel and how the unpredictable decision might affect them.
The only change will be that british that live abroad wont collect their benefits if they remain abroad.
The brexit has a civil war effect within the uk, splitting families/friends potentially forever.
Most immigrants will have to return to britain (so as not to get screwed out of retirement money they would have gotten).
On the flip side, the uk isn't out yet, and all the s hit that is to come might just prevent them from achieving "it" (becoming totally independant of the eu economic sphere).
On the whole a bad juju affair, but again very few effects will be noticed outside of the uk.
Whatever myth europe is/was, it is the stuff of peace and freedom. So going the other way, that is the standard "me before others" route, and that is sad but to be expected.
Very few kids (mapster's crowd for one) care about this, and likewise, sad but to be expected:
people don't ever see/remember what others sacrificed to be where we are at and think "their current freedom" just "is". Not feeling responsible for this situation is like spitting in the faces of those people who fought and died (yes died) to get us here and now!
when you see the politically disinvestment this world instills in its youngest, it is a wonder things are still "good".
the EU is an undemocratic elite project formed by lobbyists. they are just trying to scare the british ppl. ´the ppl of switzerland live very well without EU, so do other countries aswell. on the otherside certain countries do anything but well within the EU and it's a direct result of being part of the EU (Greece, etc).
the EU is an undemocratic elite project formed by lobbyists.
I find that the people who say this often have no idea what they're talking about, or simply like the sound of being able to shout that the EU is corrupt/undemocratic more than actually thinking about what it effectively does in the day to day life of European citizens. Prove me wrong. What exactly is undemocratic about it? And why? And how has this negatively impacted the UK?

I can try, but it usually doesn't help me. The thing with the EU is that it definitely has its issues, but most people don't seem to even know the difference between the various insitutions within it, and what their function is. The whole "it isn't democratic" thing does have a basis, but most people who use that argument can't even point that basis out. That annoys me, as it means they're just riding on the wave of populism that is - sadly - gaining traction. Which is exactly why I asked 'prove me wrong' up there.
" The Scottish and Welsh governments will be allowed to intervene in the upcoming Supreme Court case to decide how Britain will begin negotiations to leave the European Union, the court said Friday.
Judges are set to hear the Conservative government's appeal against an earlier ruling that parliament must approve the triggering of Article 50 of the EU's Lisbon Treaty, which begins formal exit talks.
British Prime Minister Theresa May wants to trigger the start of the process by the end of March, but requiring approval by parliament could delay the process.
While Britain as a whole voted to leave the EU in the June 23 referendum, Scotland voted strongly for it to remain in the bloc.
In the UK people voted for a party and based on how many votes the party got determined what fraction of the representatives they could send to the EU. The voters themselves had no choice as to who the party sent to represent them. The EU was also slowly removing autonomy of the participant governments (for example the legislation passed shortly after the Brexit vote). Another main factor for voting to leave the EU was that migrant EU citizens are entitled to the full healthcare and benefits packages of the EU country they are in at the expense of that country. As the UK has comparatively generous benefits for the unemployed and what is provided by the free healthcare compared to other EU members there was a problem of people visiting the UK just for the medical care and to register for unemployment benefits in the UK before returning back to their home countries.
Even though the referendum voted to leave the EU, the government is trying to challenge the legality of the referendum and come crawling back to the EU. The EU on the other hand has stated that due to the results of the referendum it does not want the UK to stay and it is going to have to leave. For the UK to become part of the EU again would require it to reapply like any other new EU member which would forfeit the privileged conditions it had (negotiated by Margret Thatcher).

I think giving that 2016 was the year of MAKING IT NORMAL TO HATE with making generalization normal too also TO HATE.
I travel a lot in my life and been who I am and where Im from now is more stressful then ever. Have to selectively think about where I want to spend my vacation with my girls and what to dress in what country. This elections have proven that if you dont actually declare your religion or who you sleep with you can be kill or giving a beat down. America has show to go back to the DARK AGES. If you are not white pretty soon you will enter the restaurant through the back door. The water will be selectively giving LEAD if you live in a poor neighborhood. Womens uterus will have a FINGER inside from the government. Also you have a mandatory right to be born but ones you are born you have NO rights to health care. So is ok if you die after a few days. I can understand the influx of migration no country can take that amount it is impossible. Germany should have never taken so much UK did well by taken a few immigrants. The truth is that NOT all muslim that you see on the stress are terrorist. They just dont want a russian bomb to fall on them or their families. I can understand the NORMALIZATION OF HATE on an everyday basics I see it and it has happens to me and my girls more then I can say.
Now the garbing womens by the p..s..sy that is completely unacceptable. The uk had choices and it will go apart from the rest and I believe that is smart.
The US has chosen a COMPLETE MORON PIG and orange at that, the only ones that will be dassapointed will be the ones that voted for him.
Bringing jobs back will be telling the white guys from the hud to go to the fields and pick the strawberrys and apples and cut the grass that all the immigrants use to do because they have left the US. lol and that is a JOKE on the VOTER. The tech company are compose of people from all parts of the world. Thats why inventions happened, when great minds get together. Looks at NASA I did visit with my girls and almost 50% of the work force was mix. Companys in US and UK manage a big workforce of multi national. This countrys have demonstrate exceptional capability in growth and determination to move forward and be superior. To excel at everything from talent management to recruiting to benefits to diversity is not an easy task. To shine in those areas year after year is exemplary. I believe all this will be slow down or non existent in the next 4 to 5 years. India moving forward in solar energy as number 1 candidate for 2017.
France and Canada good contenders in 1 for technology and innovation 2017. And...............so on, there are no prediction for US except going back to 1 in OIL and nuclear.
Point is greatness dont just happend to white blue eye tall people thats why Hitler got defeated.
A great depression for US is coming and the only people that will be sad will the those who were soooooo GULLIBLE to think that going back to sawing machines was the answer. Good luck media, good luck free speech, good luck moving forward in the tech industry. Good luck if you are white cause DARKNESS IS COMING FOR YOU.
lol to the ones that want to go back in time I though AMERICA WAS ALREADY great and just need a few changes.lol :-)
I genuinely don't think things will change all that much. Don't get me wrong, I'm no fan of Trump, but I doubt this is the apocalypse. The president has pretty limited power, and I doubt Congress will approve banning Muslims or building a wall. I also don't believe the 50,000,000 people who voted for him are racists and bigots, They see problems with other aspects of America, for example the economy, and think that Trump is the best person to fix it. While his current appointments are worrisome, I wish Trump the best. He'll be our president in January, we're stuck with his decisions for 4 years so I hope he makes good ones.
I didn't come here to argue politics, so I won't make another post like this. Not meaning to upset anyone, just trying to offer some words of comfort as well as my opinion on the matter.
Not too sure about that economy part given that he's pretty dead set (and has the entire house to approve whatever he wants) on starting a self-destructive trade war against Mainland China and Japan.
I don't think Trump is at the helm of introducing a new racist dark age either. There may very well have been some racism in the US still which is only now surfacing. But these things aren't happening because Trump is an evil terrible person (not trying to claim the opposite about the filthy 1%er though).
This is also not an isolated event but part of a trend visible in Brexit in the UK, Marie Le Pen in France, the german anti-immigrant movement etc.
I think this is more or less about all the things people felt unheard about. Middle eastern wars, growing financial inequality and more. People are past demonstrations, letters, etc. Now they rather vote for uncertainties than a certain continuation of the present.
What I think is a major aspect here, is mainstream media not cutting it against 'the internet' any more. Their popular claim - of print media and their online extensions of being the most serious/reliable source of information - they have been undermining themselves for a long time now. They simply don't have the credibility to defend that claim against other independent news sources (well, more or less, depending on whom we are talking about) even if their arguments may be more accurate.
Another disturbing aspect to this is, that the mainstream media is very (too) slow to realize they don't have the pull on people any more. They seem to think they have to strongly support the current establishments and that they can turn this trend, but just deepen the divide between themselves and many people by this, since they are not changing much about the credibility of their arguments.
I would think of this as an earthquake. It is also somewhat scary to think about what will happen if this doesn't provide relief of tension at all and the true quake is still about to happen. And that is what I would be more concerned about with Trump.
lol not for me I live in Iceland. I dont have a problem if US or UK self destruct or start graphing p..s..sys all around. I have a problem then taking other countrys and destroying them.
Scare Tactics do work for the gullible.
I am glad that a country so arrogant and full of itself decided to get the f*ck out of europe, i am too happy to see them now crying becaue they don't want to leave Europe since the Pound is going down and the whole Brexit was a bunch of lies, congratulations dumbasses... Now... F*ck off... thanks
I also don't believe the 50,000,000 people who voted for him are racists and bigots, They see problems with other aspects of America, for example the economy.
No, but if those who are not bigots do NOT speak out against it, they are tacitly endorsing it. By saying nothing, you indicate to bigots that there are no consequences to acting out, so they will continue to do so. To draw the extreme parallel, how many Germans endorsed the Final Solution? Probably VERY few. But how many spoke out against it? Also VERY few, so thus genocide was permitted to occur.
I believe this is true. These are not demonstrations of power, these are desperate cries for help.
I would think of this as an earthquake. It is also somewhat scary to think about what will happen if this doesn't provide relief of tension at all and the true quake is still about to happen. And that is what I would be more concerned about with Trump.
Unfortunately, this will not provide relief. The nature of our current economic system will continue to marginalize a large number these people.
Those who are wishing for economic return of work will be very disappointed, those jobs have been automated out of existence.
Those who wish to promote bigotry and hatred will find that it has economic limits.
Those who wish to halt free trade will find it is painful to do so.
Those who wish to examine whether the current political relationships between nations is acceptable or not have a much stronger point, and that may be undertaken quite a bit more. But the economic relationships are going to be difficult to unwind.
Bluntly put, the bar is being raised to be economically viable/competitive and by definition, an ever increasing amount of the existing and future population will not be (from a strictly economic point of view) worth anything, quite possible net negative.
On the upside, population control has already been discovered and implemented, namely A) Birth Control and B) Educating people. As a result, nearly the entire western world has a native population decline, with immigration outpacing it for now, in places that allow it. Japan, last I checked, was on a path to extinction in about a century (1.2 births on average, almost half the replacement rate).
One positive about the American presidential election is that a balance of power was maintained. Just like the government itself has three branches that power check each other, I think something similar also exists between the government, the media, and business. The media campaigned very hard for Clinton and failed. I think it's good to see the media does not control the government.
No, but if those who are not bigots do NOT speak out against it, they are tacitly endorsing it.
Hardly. If they don't participate or consent, you just have to provide the a more attractive alternative and you will see how much they really endorsed it. There was a lot more attached to both Clinton and Trump than 'racism: yes or no'.
Would be a different story, if the US had to rerun the entire process if voter turnout was below 40%. But when your choices are effectively Trump, Clinton and 'whoever of the two the others think better' this can hardly be made about a single aspect, can it?
Those who are wishing for economic return of work will be very disappointed, those jobs have been automated out of existence. Those who wish to promote bigotry and hatred will find that it has economic limits. Those who wish to halt free trade will find it is painful to do so.

Keyword automation. What we shouldn't forget here are advances in AI which will also reduce work in law and journalism among other things. Because searching written information may not be a job people are efficient at any more. If people want to have work a decade or two down the road they will have to do smart stuff. Can our educational systems cover that? Are we investing enough in them?
In a utopian world we would finally all ahve time to be scientists, artist, investigative journalists, etc. (teachers?). But are we actually educating all people to be able to be confortable in those jobs? And apart from that is the economic system rigged in a way to see it as a 'worthy investment'?
On the upside, population control has already been discovered and implemented, namely A) Birth Control and B) Educating people. As a result, nearly the entire western world has a native population decline, with immigration outpacing it for now, in places that allow it. I saw a talk/documentary a while ago which claimed that the world would cap out at 12 billion, even if everyone decided to go two child family at the point of time of the talk/documentary. A major contributor of growth will be Africa. We will have more than enough immigration to come. Does education apply to them? Libya and Syria have had decent educational systems. Now people are migrating through and from there.
So to close the arc to my above point: The people who will be able to still work jobs and whos offspring have the best chances to live in that world will choose not to, while the people less prepared are an increasing part of the population.
What about growth rates divided by urban and rural areas? migration between these two? I didn't look it up, but if educated people get less children and there are no jobs in the rural areas in the future...
This is a huge crisis in the making and we are neither prepared nor preparing. Saying "you not being prepared is not my problem" won't be a solution. They will make it your problem.
I may also have watched a little too much Jonathan Pie tonight, so excuse my ramblings. Feel free to be harsh with me :)
