Hi guys. I'm slowly but steadily developing a map (finally) and I'd like to do some research. Hopefully this also produces some knowledge for the map making community here about what makes a custom map bad. Responses should be things in general (not focused on a particular map). The idea is to build a feel for what is turning people off a custom game. So, what is it that makes you want to hit the F10 key and Surrender (or leave) the custom map you're playing?
I'll start. Long, repetitive matches wear me out. Before the game ends, I get tired doing the same thing and just leave the game. What makes this even worse is if you actually lose (you've spent all that time just to lose).
Now, let's have some feedback from you. What annoys you while playing custom maps?
I hate seeing visually unimaginative maps. The Galaxy Editor is extremely versatile when it comes to aesthetic quality... you've got the ability to add lighting, cinematics, mix terrains, mix doodads, create your OWN doodads, special effects, etc. So it's a peeve of mine to see a map that works flawlessly trigger-wise but is default textured or even two-toned. Even Tower Defense maps should have something to look at. :) It's the difference between amateur and pro to me.
