We already have two different threads in this forum, all about Irongate Diaries. I would be glad, if the Admins could delete the other threads. Some time before, i recruited a team with 6 members in total, to do my custom SC-2 Campaign. Unfortunately the biggest part of them let me down with the project by just not doing their work. I was really sad, because after that good feedback in the other threads i really wanted to develope the campaign some day in good quality. It looked like i was the only one, who was serious about my idea. I wrote the Preface because i want people and admins to know, what went wrong with the promises, the project and the other threads. My team disappointed me (not all of them), and i just dumped the whole thing. One day i was reading a SC-2 novel and suddenly it opened my eyes and mind. I still think the whole set, atmosphere and the game-idea itself is something good and worth to work on. So i was laying awake in my bed night to night until i decided to reanimate my idea. To get everything done on my own, i filtered out parts and details that were planed and just kicked them out from my thoughts. So the voice-output was gone and some other stuff is just not possible to do on my own. But now, Irongate-Diaries is back in production and this offical thread is feeding the community with news, because i want people to test and play my campaign due to its a very large amount of work (that makes fun).
What is Irongate Diaries?
Irongate Diaries is custom Singleplayer Campaign for Stacraft 2. You can describe it with a stylemix between (Text)adventure, RPG and Point and Click Adventure. It tells the story of a young adult named Jonathan Hendriks and his life on recolonized Mar-Sara.
What features does Irongate Diaries have?
Graphics:
----
Really good looking, atmospheric Lighting
Custom Character-Portraits
Sound:
--
Complete custom Soundtrack (maybe Space-Cowboy themed like the terran soundtrack, or more electronic/industrial)
Complete custom soundsets for all the Characters
User-Interface:
-----
A little custom User Interface ingame will be there too.
Gameplay:
----
Walkable interieurs of buildings with rendered pictures
Static camera positions, just like in a lot of Point-and-click adventures
A deep, not overused storyline far away from other SC2-Stuff
Ingame-Cinematics will help to tell the story and fate of Jonathan
Storyline:
Jonathan Hendriks, son of Helen and Jack Hendriks grew up in Irongate, a district where its all about mining, processing and export of all ressources, located in the ground. Earlier you had a very normal life with caring parents and a loving sister, called Alicia Hendriks. Your father jack was strctural ingeneer at the terran dominion. One day he went to New Folsom to improve the integrity of the planets "grid". He never came back and the dominion never told him or his family the truth. Helen Hendriks couldn't cope with the loss of her husband and so she began to do alcohol-and drug abuse. She had a ledership position at the Irongate Townhall and one day, she just left together with a officer of the terran army. She left behind Jonathan, when he was 12 years old and Helen was 16 years old. You graduated at Irongate college and made a training, becoming Geocrafter at the Irongate Mining association. Your sister went to Korhal university to study medicine. Today your age is 22 and until now, you haven't got contact to your sister, your mama or your father. You stood on own feet and everything you knownow was learned by yourself. The mining district of Mar Sara is a very unhealty place to be. Hot days, cold Nights, the massive amount of dust in the air and the exploitation of the mining personal leads to a quick death of themselves. But the terran dominion does nothing about it, because all operational engagement is focused on higher rates and effictiveness of mining and processing. The war against the Zerg and the expansion of the terran race is more important than thousands souls suffering from a 16 hour workday. For all people its just normal. When you're born in Irongate, you stay in Irongate or at least the district.
The ones, that decide to move out from there are employed at the terran army. But since the war against the zerg, the recruiting-count is starving. For Jonathan, its not a option to become a Marine at the terran army. One day your Foreman offers you a further training to chief-geocrafter at Mar Sara City and you follow that offer to prevent your life to be bleakly. Sure you have to stay at Irongate, but at least you dont have to remain at the lowest member of the food chain. So the next day you fly to Mar Sara City to begin the training.
The last degree work is finished and two years time passed by. Its the day of the End of your training and you've learned everything about mining and processing of minerals and gas. Your visit at the Mar Sara Mining Academy (MSMA) had one big lucky side effect: You met William Carter Blake, and you two became best friends after these two years. He made a training to become a device electrician for mining equipment and you both shared a pupil appartement in Mar Sara City.
So this is, where we are and the game begins...

If someone wants to have a overview of the work, that is already finished, please have a look:
So, this are the character-portraits. From upper left to lower right: Jonathan Hendriks, William Blake, Alicia Hendriks, Ivan Magnussen, General Brom van Kalari, Rebel-Leader Speedmouse.
I like the lighting, and I like how this looks. The story is intriguing (can't go wrong with out-of-luck miners, winkwink), and the second-to-last picture (with the bridge and the menu selection screen) is just gorgeous. Damn, I wish I had made that picture. This feels really artistic, even though it seems to be firmly rooted in SC lore.
Well I agree with TwoDie. I like the terrain, but is the planet they're on about to impact a sun? Anyway I can't wait to play. The guy on the bottom left looks like a ninja.
The Lighting will be not that colorful in Beta anymore. Let me explain it: Mar-Sara is a desert-planet. Due to the Dust from mining, the sunlight looks way more Yellow/orange, than it would on earth. Thats my explanation :) If anyone of you played Anno 2070, where the general colors are more like not satisfied enaugh, thats how we will be later.
The guy at the bottom-left is Ivan Magnussen. His parents are terraformers and the whole familiy is running the Magnussen Biodome near Irongate. Later in the story, Jonathan and Blake will be meeting Ivan. Secondary, the whole family is researching the long time side-effects at vegetation after a nuclear fallout. They are one of the most rich families in Irongate, but Ivan got a Heart of Gold.
Nothing is playable yet, this are Editor-Pictures. But in 1-2 Weeks i will make a trailer again with ingame-graphics and maybe a little bit of Gameplay.
I thank you very much all, for your interest, this is what me motivates to do this alone, without my team.
Yea I agree the lighting is off. I like the idea of having an orangeish light but it looks like you have HDR really high or something and it looks weird and not very pristine at all. Looks decent otherwise.
Yeah, thank you, the lighting, just as said will be changed. I think this is the first thing im gonna do today. I will post a screenshot, to get your feedback guys :)
Ye with a little bit of four eye support from my girlfriend, we cound manage to make much more better lighting. I think the atmosphere is still in there, but its not that obtrusively anymore.
What do you think about the Soundtrack? Should it be more like the Space-Cowboy-Themed stuff like the terran soundtrack? Or would it be nice to make it more Industrial/Electronic?
Whats your opinion, i can deliver both. Making music since the age of 7 pays off somehow i guess :)
Yeah but ambient only is not enaugh i guess. Not electronic, maybe more like minimal. Check the links with the soundtracks i already provided, they say pretty much about how i mean "electronic"
I listened to your music, man, and I really love it! Use it! I do think that you don't have to choose between your alternatives, though. I mean, combine them instead. Make an electronic, but add in some twelve-string guitar or something to make it more terran-like.

Well map lighting ridiculous.. Too big of contrast and brightness levels..

Do you guys think, this is better now?
@irongatediaries: Go
Gorgeous. So much better and it still has that bright glare feeling.
Ye with a little bit of four eye support from my girlfriend, we cound manage to make much more better lighting. I think the atmosphere is still in there, but its not that obtrusively anymore.

DEATH METAL! Mwahahahahahaha!
What do you mean, electronic? I think some ambient would work great.
Yeah but ambient only is not enaugh i guess. Not electronic, maybe more like minimal. Check the links with the soundtracks i already provided, they say pretty much about how i mean "electronic"
Forgot about those. Will check it out.
Seriously i think that a music like the terran one is better with the atmosphere of the campaign that you are doing
