Hey guys, I'm starting/putting together an actual wiki for this site. No offense to the current wiki system, but it's rather unorganized and there are broken links everywhere...
Either way, why dont you post a link to sc2mapster.com on the wiki just to show the connection between the 2 sites. In all the ported tutorials I have moved onto it I include links to sc2mapster. The wiki is just nice to have everything together, nice and organized. Sc2mapster is (in my opinion) more for the forums and community.

There are ads on the site? I have the same app but for google chrome. Since I activated it, I dont have to see "10 singles in your area dying to meet you, click here!!" or "you are the 11,295th visitor and you won a billion dollars! Just give us your bank information and we'll send it!!".. :D

I just started the wiki because as I said before the wiki on this site looks nice but is somewhat unorganized. There are broken links all over the place, and a lot of the articles are horribly out of date. Also, as QueenGambit said, the wiki on this site is kind of obscure in spite of there being a link at the top of the page, and it is never referenced. (I myself didn't even know it was there until about a month ago.)
My goal in creating this wiki is just to give the current wiki a bit of a jump start, porting over tutorials and at the same time screening for outdated material. Also, as zeldarules said, mapster is incredible awesome for its project publishing services and the help community, but the tutorial section is in dire need of help. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think that the tutorial portion of the wiki has been updated in months, even though people have been writing tutorials. Ultimately, I wanted to separate the community portion and the reference section of this site, so that each section can do its job in the most efficient and helpful way possible.
Sorry about the ads. It's mandatory for a free site to have those ads. However, if you install Adblock Plus (link is in an above post), you will never see those ads. I highly recommend getting it anyway, because it's just so nice to have an ad-free browsing experience. :)
Well to be fair if you are not a map author here you will see ads as well, but the point of sixen is that the wiki here is for mapster users so you dont have to go to anther site like wiki. The wiki is obviously not updated and referenced simply because very few people use it. I would encourage people to use it more though

Why is it bad that the wiki is owned by Wikia?
I just haven't had good experiences with Wikia thus far. Not sure if you know about the whole Wowwiki -> Wowpedia thing... And since Curse owns SC2Mapster and Wowwiki moved to Wowpedia, i'm sure Wikia isn't too happy with Curse.

Wikia's forced skin is terrible, I'd rather have our own wiki's skin changed, with open editing for everyone. I've more than 10,000 edits across wowpedia and other wikis, so I could help with the basics for wikifying, but not with wikia, that Oasis skin gives me headache.
As for Curse, it's annoying to see we're the abandoned child of it. With all the respect of the world, these forums suck terribly, lacking vital features like "active topics" and more. Changing it to something more user-friendly should be top priority for SC2Mapster, because I think that's what is hurting us most.

We would if we could.
Sixen says he's trying hard to get someone from curse to fix our troubles, or at least convince them to give us access so we can try to do so ourselves.
There isn't much we can do. That's the problem when someone else is your boss.
Why not use galaxywiki. It runs original mediawiki software, no ads, already has 160 article and does not belong to any specific community. Staredit.net and sc2mod.com are already linking to this wiki in their main navigation-bar and it would be nice if mapster did the same.
GalaxyWiki is a wiki about StarCraft II in general. It has a few tips and tutorials about mapping, but it ultimately has the same problem I talked about before about sc2mapster, in that it's trying to incorporate every aspect, and some of the "lesser" aspects aren't getting the attention they deserve.
However, if you all really think it's not necessary, I'll drop the wiki. I'm still going to make a trigger API somewhere, because it is something that is desperately needed. (I also plan on incorporating a data API sometime in the future.)

GalaxyWiki is a pure mapping wiki. Of course many articles in the wiki do not get the attention they deserve but I think this is not what a wiki is made for. A wiki should collect knowledge and organize it in a way that it can be maintained, searched and referenced to. If you want to start a new site for every aspect it will be very difficult for people to find your stuff. So in my opinion its rather contra productive to start a new wiki. Just stay at the big existing sites: Use the mapster-Forums for Tutorials (the tutorials listing actually is a wiki page) and galaxywiki for articles about facts or specific topics (like http://www.galaxywiki.net/index.php?title=Time ) or small tutorials (explaining only one task).
For big tutorials a wiki is not suitable in my opinion because people want to be seen as the author after they have spent some time in creating a long tutorial and many people do not want their tutorials to be edited by someone else.

But that's the whole reason behind putting tutorials in a wiki where they can be edited by anyone. As the pass of the beta showed, a lot of tutorials' content becomes obsolete or deprecated, and usually after someone writes a tutorial they just abandon it to the masses, and it never gets updated with the new content.
But I spent a lot of time looking at the GalaxyWiki, and it does seem pretty legit, even if it's really hard to navigate. I think that I may start moving some of the stuff I've gathered so far over to there, then start working off of that site. My purpose in starting my wiki was because I hadn't found anything that did what I wanted the wiki to do, but GalaxyWiki seems to fit the bill.

I totally agree with you but my experience has shown that most people prefer forums for writing tutorials. Over at our German community we first had all Tutorials inside our wiki but user participation was very low. After we created a sub-forum for tutorials people began to post them. The reasons could also be bad promotion for the wiki by us but I think its just the case that only a few people are familiar with the wiki principle (although everyone looks up stuff on wikipedia frequently).
I can only talk about me.
I learned the stuff using the tutorial list on the wiki.
After that, i started searching on the forum, which is very painful.
I think we need both. If someone find a good tutorial on the forum , he can also copy and paste it to the wiki.
U can stil post the source of the site under it and name the author.
And I think if someone copy and paste a howto, it could only be good.
Maybe you and others can help it get organized?

You don't get a single add :)
This would be really helpful to anyone, I'd like to thank you for getting this started! (And everyone who is helping making tutorials!)

Well, the thing is, Wikia owns that wiki... It'd be another thing if SC2Mapster hosted a MediaWiki wiki.

I completely agree. That's why I'm sticking with the default skin that looks like wikipedia.

If i look at the index, i think people behind that wiki is 95% mapper.
He has staff like andromeda... they are pro.
On the other hand. U can edit the wiki on SC2Mapster too.
It is the definition of wiki...

some how you managed to create a wiki that is worse the sc2mapsters wiki......
