SC1 Tribute is a map project to recreate the SC1 campaign levels onto Starcraft 2. SC2 players will be able to relive through the EPIC storyline of SC1 playing on battle.net.
Duplicates and Changes
To dupicate:
Mission briefing (dialogs ingame)
Audio/subtitle of storyline (duplicated .wav files)
adding side stories? (but keeping SC1 lore intact)
adding sub missions? (but keeping main objectives intact)
How many maps do you plan on publishing?
I plan on retelling EVERY story found on Starcraft 1. Some campaign levels are small and so those campaign levels can be published onto 1 map. For example: Level 1-3 can be shoved all in one map. Then level 4-5, etc.
What is the Deadline?
Like what Jones313 said, we both don't like deadlines. Just do what we can and have fun dusting off your SC1 cd, reinstalling it, replay it, discuss your experiences here, plan/decide how we'll recreate the levels, map edit, rinse, repeat. The project will solidify itself.
Plan / Editing Overview

Post thread
Contact members who have been developing this eariler and ask if they too want to help out.
Plan on which levels can qualify into being 1 map. (This is to reduce publishing # and also, allowing players to continue with the story without having to exit a map then start a new one)
Discuss and decide the deviations with the Team.
Create the dialogs for mission briefing.
Decide the terraining and see what kind of respectful deviations can we make
Add in the preplaced units and see what kind of deviations can we make
Add in the the SC1 Skizot models if necessary for that level(s)
Add in the SC1 music and sounds for that level(s)
Trigger in the computer AI and sounds and subtitles
Data in sc1 stats/pricing if necessary
Test map(s) and see if any changes can be made
polish map(s)
Eat a yoplait yogurt
An example of a campaign level: (the 11th level on SC1)
I think there are pleanty of "sc1 conversions" out there at the moment. Maybe start working on it yourself, show the results, and get people interested? Personally I dislike campagin maps, especially remakes of sc1 (imho). You play them once and thats it. Either way, you might get more people interested if you make a video or something showing what you made so far.

Feel free to Send me a PM if you have any questions/concerns!
First of all: LOL @ that quote! Wunterwaffen's maps, right? Those weren't even close to good enough to be called 'remakes'. I mean no offense to the poor guy though.
Back on topic: Campaign maps are single-player content and it's kind of a niche interest but the demand exists. I frequently lurk this site for new single-player maps to download and the number is disappointingly few. I have no need to learn the SC:BW storyline but I am still hoping that we may someday see an awesome remake of them.
I attempted this project during the beta but failed miserably due to Galaxy Editor changes breaking my mod and everything but I have my old project up for download for somebody else to salvage, which is what user Jones313 has already done. He contacted me recently via PM about a remake of my remake using Maverck's SC2 Brood War mod (which is incredible, btw) including classic briefing screens and such. He has made some great progress on it so far. I haven't gotten to try it out yet but it sounds like it'll be of solid quality.
I told Jones313 that I was on hiatus from map making but I think I will reconsider, if he reads this post. So, you can count me in. I'll help out. Maybe I'll grab Jones313 and get him into this too.
Aw, don't be like that, Tolkfan. I'm sure that the finished product would blow the community's mind away, despite the lack of response in that one thread. I would nut myself if anybody could finish this.
Alright. Well I have (Ultraling's) Terran campaign pretty much done, and the Zerg campaign somewhat done. (!) I know, I've kind of just been sitting on them, heh.
My question is, how would this work? I don't like the idea of deadlines and all that... I could upload my maps and let you guys work on them, but I feel like I've had enough of the Galaxy Editor for now. =P That said, if we could figure out a reasonable way to do things, a "plan" if you will, who knows? Maybe I could help out with stuff in the near future.
I like the idea of a remake of the SC1 story without necessarily recreating every little part of every map. In fact, the first 1 or 2 maps in each race's campaign might even be omitted entirely, because their main focus is "these are probes, used for warping in structures, which you can only do near a pylon". If someone is downloading custom maps off the internet, you can safely assume they know what probes are ;)
Do you plan on recreating any of the SC1 units, like Reavers or Defilers? Or just remake the story with the new units?
Thank you everyone for your interest in the SC1 Campaign Tribute. Let me take a moment to respond to these comments.

okay that is great Ultraling. I added you and Jones313 to the Looking Glass League Team.

Yah thanks for giving me this link, I know that there are a few developing projects. I emailed their staff and asked to see if they would like a collaboration. Their site description is exactly what I want to get out of this project.

I was on that team and it's been dead for months now (look at the forums, they're flooded with spam bots). We managed to completely finish 3 campaign missions, two of them are in my profile (can't publish the 3rd because I didn't create it). A few other maps were started but never finished (authors just left without a word). We had a very extensive roadmap (and that's an early version of it), we talked and madesillygraphs for weeks before even starting work on the map in the editor.
With all that, we still failed... :(
What I'm trying to say is that this isn't an easy task. Not if you want to create missions that are at least close to the quality of blizzard's campaign. I'd say you would need a team of at least 10 very dedicated people (or rather, one mapmaker for every campaign mission) to pump out a fully finished campaign episode every 3-4 months. Now consider how little interest there is in campaigns...
It's been , still failed...
PS. No way in hell would this fit on battle.net. A file containing all the sounds, music and voices from SC1 is about 130MB (wav converted into ogg, with a quality of q5). Add to that the maps (1-2MB each), models, images...
Thanks for the more detailed explanation. I gave this some more thought, and yeah, I'm not looking to be an active member on the project at this time, sorry. (This was before I read Tolkfan's post, by the way =P) It's just that you guys are kind of getting started while I'm basically just trying to wrap things up for
now.
Tell you what. I'm gonna go ahead and release the stuff I've been working on, and if you like the maps you can use them in your project as you see fit, as long as it's ok with Ultra & Maverck. Thanks to those guys, the "duplicate" part of your list is basically done. The maps are very playable, but still pretty basic; there's always room for improvement, and things you listed such as side stories/missions, difficulty levels etc. aren't there yet.
Anyhow, I'll try to upload the Terran campaign sometime this week(end?). Good luck to us all.
@Tolkfan: Oh yes you are right, the sounds are huge and it would be impossible/unnecessary to put them all. I will have to decide which sounds will be appropriate for which level and try to limit to only few mb. Also, There are actually a few sc2 players who would like to play through the sc1 campaign. The goal is simply to have fun reliving the sc1 story through map editing and replaying them. Again, this is not to be some kind of vendor competing for the top list of the pop system. You have already made the 3 campaigns! That is fantastic and I will achieve that as well. I am very excited to start this project
@Jones313: Oh that is unfortunate that you will not be joining us, we could use the help. In any case if I end up doing this project by myself, i'll probably be doing it with a smile (because sc1 story is so exciting). So you will release what you are working on to allow me to look at it? I would love to see it yay thanks =)
The main problem was that it was way too ambitious from the start. It's way easier to finish smaller-scale projects, and then extend them later.
Another problem was the inactivity, like Tolkfan said. People work a bit, and then get bored and stop working for a while.
I however think that it's much easier to manage a project like this with fewer (but active) people. Communication is a big problem in international projects like this. With no communication you might as well work alone. A couple of active and motivated people can easily work as fast as a large group.
I stopped working on this mainly because of the reasons above and due to arguments and disagreements of certain actions (that in my opinion ultimately made the project die completely) It was also frustrating to work when a lot of people didn't do anything and didn't even give any feedback at all. Tolkfan was probably the person who worked the most, as far as I remember.
@Tolkfan: If you want, you may do whatever with the maps that I've worked on. (I think at least 3 maps have finished terrain and map flow) It's also nice to see you are still active here :)
@Xan0: I am sorry to hear that you and Tolkfan got bored of the project. Starcraft One's story is a great story that can be retold entertainingly on sc2. I will be building many fun discussions with the team and work on it diligently.
Not to shamelessly plug my project or anything, just letting you know I've uploaded the Terran campaign here, in case you want to try it out. And if you see something you like, feel free to use it in your project. There's nothing super innovative or anything in there, but I'm hoping you'll get something out of it.
project will slowly but surely be done. I am working 40+ hour per week now. Any help would be great. My weekend starts right now and guess whos going to map for 48 hours (me!)

Updated the topic
